The mass amnesty programs proposed by Vice President Kamala Harris and explicitly outlined in this year’s Democrat Party platform would mean that Social Security and Medicare would suddenly be burdened by millions of new beneficiaries who would be net drains on the system.

The Honorable
Mike Johnson, Speaker
110 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC

Dear Mr. Speaker,

The American People are indebted to you and the Republican House Majority for your recent passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a crucial measure to guard against the Harris-Biden border invasion and the unprecedented threat of noncitizens voting in federal elections. But now an equally dangerous threat looms for the country, and in particular for the senior Americans AMAC represents.

In addition to the Harris-Biden Administration’s determination to destroy the border and use illegal aliens as political pawns to bolster Democratic Party registration numbers, Democrats are also seeking through mass amnesty to grant illegal aliens access to Social Security and Medicare benefits. Given the flood of more than 10 million individuals who have illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border over the last four years, such a development would present an existential threat to these programs, which are already facing insolvency.

Accordingly, Congress should swiftly pass legislation making anyone who has ever crossed our borders illegally permanently ineligible to receive Social Security and Medicare benefits. This new eligibility requirement will act as a vital safeguard on the hard-earned benefits of American citizens that are now threatened by unchecked mass illegal immigration.

The mass amnesty programs proposed by Vice President Kamala Harris and explicitly outlined in this year’s Democrat Party platform would mean that Social Security and Medicare would suddenly be burdened by millions of new beneficiaries who would be net drains on the system.

According to data compiled by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, illegal aliens could expect to receive approximately 110-120 percent of what they have paid into Social Security if they are granted legal status. In some cases, this figure could be as high as 140 percent. Illegal aliens granted amnesty will also be eligible for Medicare the minute they hit age 65.

Many proponents of mass amnesty have argued that providing illegal aliens with legal status would “save” Social Security and Medicare by providing a surge in new contributions. But the progressive nature of Social Security and Medicare payouts, the fact that most illegal aliens work relatively low-wage jobs, and the reality that most only work part of their lives in the United States means that the vast majority will draw out more than they pay in.

Such a development would be particularly calamitous given that Social Security is already projected to become insolvent by 2033, while Medicare Part A is expected to become insolvent by 2036. Adding millions of illegal border crossers to an already precarious fiscal situation would dramatically speed up these timelines and make
a solution even more difficult to achieve.

Moreover, as a matter of principle, individuals who broke American laws and violated American sovereignty as their first act in this country should not be rewarded with access to programs created to benefit law-abiding American citizens who have paid into them their entire working lives.

As the largest conservative senior advocacy organization in the country, it is the mission of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) to protect Social Security and Medicare from urgent threats like this. I have also challenged the president of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) to join me in calling on Congress to pass legislation protecting benefits for their members.

I look forward to continuing to be a partner and resource for Congress on this important issue for seniors and all Americans.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Weber
Chief Executive Officer
