Dear Representative Roy,
On behalf of the over 2.1 million members of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), an organization representing Americans aged 50 and above who uphold the core values of faith, family, and freedom, I am writing to express our strong support for your introduction of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.
Since the inauguration of President Joe Biden, our country has seen an influx of over 4.6 million illegal immigrants, with an estimated 1.8 million individuals slipping through the cracks. This inflow not only poses national security risks but also threatens the integrity of our electoral system. Some of these non-citizens are granted access to driver’s licenses and other benefits in several states, creating opportunities for illegal voter registration in federal elections. Moreover, in certain jurisdictions, non-citizens are even permitted to vote in local elections, directly opposing the principle that only American citizens should participate in federal electoral processes.
The SAVE Act presents a crucial solution to this pressing issue and thwarts efforts by some to manipulate our electoral system for political gain. By amending the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to mandate documentary proof of U.S. citizenship and identity in person for individuals registering to vote in federal elections, your legislation reinforces the fundamental requirement that only citizens may participate in our democratic processes.
Furthermore, the SAVE Act’s directive for states to establish programs to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls, coupled with granting states no-cost access to pertinent federal databases, underscores a proactive approach to safeguarding the sanctity of our elections.
We are particularly heartened by the SAVE Act’s empowerment of citizens to hold election officials accountable for upholding proof of citizenship requirements, as well as the imposition of penalties for officials who register non-citizens to vote in federal elections. These measures serve as vital safeguards against any attempts to undermine the integrity of our electoral process.
Congressman Roy, AMAC wholeheartedly supports your efforts to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. Your commitment to upholding American values and strengthening our democracy is commendable, and we stand ready to assist in any way possible to ensure the swift passage of this critical legislation.
Sincerely,
Bob Carlstrom
President
