Under direction from President Donald Trump, the Department of War (DOW) recently released the first batch of unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) records that had not previously been distributed to the public. These records contain images and videos of unidentified flying objects, as well as eyewitness testimonies.

In February, the President announced that he was ordering DOW and other relevant agencies to “begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).” In a statement, DOW explained that the release of the records is a direct result of Trump being “focused on providing maximum transparency to the public.”

“The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said. “These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.”

The files did not reveal any hard evidence of alien life or extraterrestrial technology. However, there were multiple videos showing UAPs flying in front of cameras and testimony from astronaut Buzz Aldrin explaining that he saw “little flashes inside the cabin, spaced a couple of minutes apart” during the Apollo 11 operation.

Additional incidents were reported for the Apollo 12 and Apollo 17 missions. During the Apollo 17 mission, the crew reported seeing “very bright particles” of light that were “rotating way out in the distance.” In another incident in 2023, a drone operator reported seeing an object “metallic/gray in color” with a “super bright light on the east side of the object” that was about 5,000 feet off the ground.

National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard explained that more UAP files would be released in the future.

“The American people have long sought transparency about the government’s knowledge of unidentified anomalous phenomena,” Gabbard said. “Under President Trump’s leadership, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence is actively coordinating the Intelligence Community’s declassification efforts with the Department of War to ensure a careful, comprehensive, and unprecedented review of our holdings to provide the American people with maximum transparency. Today’s release is the first in what will be an ongoing joint declassification and release effort.”

FBI Director Kash Patel explained that UAP appearances are a security issue and that his agency’s priority is ensuring the safety of Americans.

“The FBI remains committed to supporting this rolling declassification effort with the same rigor and integrity we bring to every national security matter,” Patel said. “As these files continue to be reviewed and released, the American people can be confident that their security remains our highest priority.”
