Beginning herb growers are often interested in the distinct flavors and uses of herbs. They may also seek to understand the plant’s needs and requirements to achieve optimal growth. The handy table below is a great reference. Year-long, herbs may be planted from seed and maintained indoors, if you provide the right conditions. The best time to start planting herbs outdoors is generally in the spring, once the danger of frost is gone.

Just a note: Companion planting in agriculture and gardening is planting crops or plants together for optimal benefits. Generally, these plants and crops require similar growing conditions and care. They benefit off one another and help with factors like pest control, pollination, supporting beneficial creatures, maximizing space and more. Basil is a very good companion for many other herbs and for some plants as well. For example, when basil is planted near tomato plants it improves their flavor and growth. It also repels flies, mosquitoes, and certain types of beetles. Therefore, basil and tomatoes are excellent companion plants.
