The talk of the town this weekend was something that actually woke the Democrats up out of their coma of pompous self-satisfaction. The Washington Post and ABC News released a new poll showing not just that President Joe Biden’s disapproval ratings have skyrocketed, but that – – gasp! –- former President Donald Trump leads him for the presidency by a stunning 10 points.
Many in the media were gobsmacked. Martha Radditz at ABC started off the “This Week” panel conversation on Sunday by noting, “Whatever caveats, whether that is an outlier, that’s a tough one to spin.”
Revealing the deliberate ignorance from the left and those who hate Trump so much their critical thinking is nonexistent, Larry Sabato, a pollster and director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics who is known for perpetual nursing of his Trump Derangement Syndrome, posted this on X about the poll: “Ignore the Washington Post – ABC poll. It’s a ridiculous outlier (Trump up 10 over Biden—laughable). My question: How could you even publish a poll so absurd on its face? Will be a lingering embarrassment for you.”
This from the same guy that told CNN in October 2016 that Hillary Clinton would win the presidential race with 352 electoral votes. The actual total was Trump with 306 versus Hillary’s 232. Lingering embarrassments indeed.
We’re supposed to ignore the Trump/Biden lead number, but there’s even more to the story which explains how that 10-point gap came to be. ABC described their own poll this way: “President Joe Biden’s job approval rating is 19 points underwater, his ratings for handling the economy and immigration are at career lows. A record number of Americans say they’ve become worse off under his presidency, three-quarters say he’s too old for another term and Donald Trump is looking better in retrospect — all severe challenges for Biden in his reelection campaign ahead.”
Yikes!
Axios adds, “In the Post-ABC poll, 44% said they’re worse off — the most for any president in the poll since Ronald Reagan in 1986… A majority of voters polled in the Post-ABC poll felt the economy; prices of food, energy and gas; the unemployment rate; and average wages were all either “poor” or “not so good… 91% agreed the cost of food was a negative. 87% felt the same about gas and energy prices… 74% are concerned about the state of the U.S. economy, and 75% about wages.”
Telling people to ignore the results, or that they’re meaningless, or are somehow false, reinforces the media and political establishments’ obsession with making every American a forgotten man and woman. Trump elevated ‘ordinary’ people, those who made this nation possible and have kept us, and the world, free for over 200 years. For the current Masters of the Universe, Job #1 is to forget us, again.
From the start of their basement campaign in 2020 replete with lies they told us about Biden, his condition, and the madness of their policy intentions, the Biden circus just couldn’t stop. In their frenzy to gaslight the American people they hypnotized themselves instead with absurdities like the border is closed, the economy is fine, crime is exaggerated. And let’s not forget the doozy that Biden and his family are the most honest, trustworthy, and law-abiding people on Earth. Crooked Joe’s commitment to pronouns is just the cherry on top of this utopian sundae. Their willful lack of empathy for the American people is one more example of their determined malevolence.
A word of caution is due as we all know polls can be fickle friends. We’ve learned election after election that polls can be manipulated or simply flat out wrong due to bias. The growing reluctance of people to speak their minds and give their opinions to strangers on the phone in our world of threats, harassment, and cancellation by the left, doesn’t help.
But polls do serve a very important purpose in that while we can’t rely on them to predict the outcome of a race, they can show us trends and trajectories on a larger scale. This is one of those times.
A national poll showing President Trump 10 points up on Biden can’t directly reflect the outcome of the presidential race because the election relies on the electoral college via state races. But what this poll and the others do show us is the mood of the country, and how Trump and Biden are being perceived.
Also significant is the poll reveals all the happy talk lies of the White House through the summer touting Bidenomics, trying to convince people that everything was fine with the economy, has failed. They found none of us are waiting to be told how to feel about life and the damage Biden’s cronies have inflicted on us.
These poll numbers, which have so shocked the establishment darlings, also illustrate our disgust with the tactics of the Democrats against Trump, their main political opponent, and his supporters. Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist writes, “The strategy of indicting political opponents was supposed to help Democrats wage political warfare in an environment where their policies have led to open borders, endless war, pro-crime district attorneys, and economic malaise. These outcomes are exceedingly unpopular. On top of the policy failures, they’re trying to imprison their top political opponent and keep him off the ballot.” Moreover, she notes, “it reminds Americans of how absolutely reckless and dangerous they’re being.”
Democrats have options other than those who are pandering to their most extreme elements and trying to pit Americans against each other. We may disagree with a great deal of what Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Joe Manchin advocate, but they are reminders that the various cranks in the party are not of the classical liberal tradition and have warped the party into an America Last machine For all of our sakes, Democrats can, and must, demand better from their own party.
There are warnings for Republicans as well in this and other polls: Get out of your bubble, take the American people seriously, be genuinely interested in what is happening in our lives, and articulate policy and plans to get this nation back on her feet. Trump and the other Republicans candidates put America, and Americans, first. Courtesy of Biden, we now know what the opposite is, and we don’t like it one damn bit.
