Anti-aging is a misleading term. It doesn’t mean that people are against aging, rather it means that they are embracing aging on their own terms – likely hoping to prevent or delay physical signs of growing older. It’s not good vs. bad as there is no right or wrong about it; it’s simply a personal choice to seek to lessen the effects of aging on the body. Those who seek youthfulness as they age will enjoy benefits of anti-aging products.

Three key points:

  • Aging is a beautiful thing. Along with time comes enhanced knowledge, experience, and maturity. Not only does growing older provide adults with the ability to make well-informed decisions, but it enables experienced people to face the world with the utmost confidence. The right makeup can help women look and feel their best through various phases of life.
  • The goal of anti-aging makeup is not to eradicate aging. Rather, quality makeup products are designed to help and/or improve skin conditions that may accompany aging. Beneficial products are intended to supplement, not hide, natural beauty throughout the aging process.
  • Not all products are suitable for aging skin. Carefully review the ingredients in products and avoid potentially harmful ones. Rather, opt for those which are designed to protect skin, let skin breathe, and promote the state of looking natural. Click here for our link to beneficial makeup ingredients.

Before jumping back into the makeup discussion, let’s briefly highlight information about skin which serves as our makeup base.

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of the body?

It’s true! This all-important organ covers the external surface of the body and protects the internal organs from germs.  It is the first line of immunological defense, helps the body regulate temperature and water loss, and produces vitamin D from exposure to sunlight.

Making safe choices – why makeup matters

It’s important to take care of one’s skin and to regularly be medically examined as part of a routine skin cancer checkup. It’s also imperative to shield the skin from harmful sun exposure by regularly wearing sunscreen and making safe lifestyle choices that prevent premature aging. Anti-aging makeup, specifically makeup designed for mature skin, may also be part of one’s routine to keep the skin supple and to promote healthfulness. The right makeup can protect skin and even help keep it safe from pollution.

Such a big choice

Choosing skincare and makeup products is not easy for consumers. There are thousands upon thousands of anti-aging makeup products on the market. They can be found in many places, from personal care and beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta to online shops, pharmacies, and more. These products for sale can widely range in affordability and greatly differ in terms of what they can deliver. Before spending money, it’s necessary to do your homework to learn where products are sourced. It’s essential to understand what science stands behind the products to prove they work effectively and safely for mature skin. Consumers must also do their best to avoid makeup and cosmetics which include questionable, unfavorable, or unsafe ingredients.

The bottom line:

Anti-aging makeup is designed to help women look and feel their best. It helps to accentuate positive physical attributes of the skin and enhance natural beauty while minimizing potential flaws. While there are a great many new beauty products on the market, it’s important to do research to make sure they are safe and effective. Unfortunately, the FDA does not approve cosmetics or strictly regulate the cosmetics industry. Though they play a helpful role in protecting people from the after-effects of dangerous products, the FDA does not provide premarket approval of cosmetics, nor do they enforce regulations on the safety testing of ingredients used in skincare and other cosmetic lines. Educating oneself on the benefits of anti-aging products and using good judgment in what gets applied to the skin is truly up to consumers.
