Following a strong grassroots push from AMAC members, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 293 into law this week, marking a significant victory for election integrity in a vital swing state.

SB 293 establishes clear, uniform standards for absentee voting by requiring that all absentee ballots be received by Election Day. The law also requires the Ohio Secretary of State to verify registered voters’ citizenship on a monthly basis. Together, these provisions reinforce the principle that Election Day should be treated as Election Day – not election week or month – while ensuring Ohio’s voter rolls remain accurate and up to date.

More than 1,000 Ohio AMAC members contacted the Governor directly, urging him to sign SB 293, underscoring the commitment of AMAC members to protecting fair, transparent, and trustworthy elections. That member-driven advocacy proved decisive, helping secure a commonsense reform that strengthens confidence in how Ohio elections are conducted.

SB 293’s reforms represent a significant confidence builder for Ohio voters. Clear rules applied evenly reduce confusion, limit post-election disputes, and help ensure that every lawful vote is treated equally. By setting expectations in advance, the law promotes integrity and accountability without restricting access, giving voters certainty about how and when their ballots must be cast.

“Governor DeWine’s signature on SB 293 codifies a return to common sense election laws for all Ohioans,” said Ohio Election Integrity Network Board Member Laurie Groves. “Big thanks go out to the elected officials listening and acting on their voters’ concerns. We were also gratified to receive an assist from the Ohio members of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens. They made over 1,000 contacts directly with the Governor as concerned voters, urging him to sign the bill.”

AMAC Action Senior Vice President Andy Mangione praised both DeWine’s leadership and AMAC’s engaged membership. “This victory is a textbook example of how informed, motivated citizens can make a real difference,” Mangione said. “Ohio AMAC members stood up for election integrity, made their voices heard, and helped deliver a law that restores clarity, consistency, and confidence in the electoral process.”

AMAC Action will continue working with members and lawmakers nationwide to advance reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and trust in America’s elections.
