Sorry state of how the country is heading.? Sherry Ware 4 years ago 11/12, I only missed the month it was given. I guessed July, the month the battle was fought. The speech was given a few months later in November. I’m a retired 5th-grade teacher. We did a unit on the Civil War every year in 5th grade. My students memorized the Gettysburg Address to recite for their parents at the end of the year ceremony. I miss those times now, but hundreds of students have gone on to high school, college, and successful careers and I am so very proud of them.
