Don’t delay!

Many folks wait until after the holidays to get their homes organized. Usually, it’s part of a New Year’s resolution to get household affairs in order. Whatever the reason may be, it’s often a better idea to organize rooms incrementally throughout the year – including the holiday season! Though it is undoubtedly a busy time of year, it’s also a convenient time to organize. Here are some great benefits of preholiday household organizing!

  • Your house will look attractive now for the holidays. Why wait until after the New Year to make your house look great? Act now so your organized home is appreciated by holiday guests! Simply go room by room and gather up what you no longer want, need, or use. Then take your finds to a non-profit donation center or charity. Not only are you getting the home in order, but your donations will be helping the charity of your choosing during the holiday season.
  • It will be easier to find what you need for the holidays. Having the spirit of giving is wonderful, so do consider donating doubles of items you probably won’t need or use. Donating excess items not only decreases cabinet and closet clutter, but it also makes it easier to find seasonally used items such as Grandma’s holly platter or Uncle Joe’s wood carved cheeseboard.
  • Your house will be easier to clean. Getting rid of unwanted items creates more space in a home. Less furniture and nicknacks make rooms easier to vacuum and to dust. When deciding what items to keep or donate consider its value to you sentimentally and cost-wise. If it brings you happiness, and it’s something you can’t do without, then keep it. If it’s just another item that gathers dust on the shelf, then likely it’s time for it to go.
  • It’s the perfect time to donate unwanted decorations that were just pulled out of storage. While your decorations are out, sort through and donate what you don’t want, need, or use. Donated holiday decorations can be given out, sold to earn the organization a profit, or used by them to decorate during the holidays. Not only will you be simplifying your holiday stock, but you’ll be spreading holiday cheer to others in need.
  • You’ll make space for all the new gifts you’ll be receiving over the holidays. So many times, we get holiday gifts that we like – but when we go to put them away, there is no space for them. Make some time now to look through closets and gather a few bags of donations. Donating gives the things you don’t need, use, or want a second life. And it makes space for all the new and wonderful gifts you’re likely to receive.

Kindness pays…

Donating during the holiday season demonstrates the spirit of generosity and greatly helps others in need. There’s no better time than this festive period to think about others, to donate, and to be grateful for life’s abundant blessings. Getting the house in order shouldn’t wait until January where it will likely be procrastinated. Help others now by getting a jumpstart on donating and organizing. And, with a little energy, you might just wow your guests with your superior preholiday household organizing skills at this very busy time of year. In fact, they may be left wondering if you’ve hired some elves to get it done!
