Many folks wait until after the holidays to get their homes organized. Usually, it’s part of a New Year’s resolution to get household affairs in order. Whatever the reason may be, it’s often a better idea to organize rooms incrementally throughout the year – including the holiday season! Though it is undoubtedly a busy time of year, it’s also a convenient time to organize. Here are some great benefits of preholiday household organizing!
- Your house will look attractive now for the holidays. Why wait until after the New Year to make your house look great? Act now so your organized home is appreciated by holiday guests! Simply go room by room and gather up what you no longer want, need, or use. Then take your finds to a non-profit donation center or charity. Not only are you getting the home in order, but your donations will be helping the charity of your choosing during the holiday season.
- It will be easier to find what you need for the holidays. Having the spirit of giving is wonderful, so do consider donating doubles of items you probably won’t need or use. Donating excess items not only decreases cabinet and closet clutter, but it also makes it easier to find seasonally used items such as Grandma’s holly platter or Uncle Joe’s wood carved cheeseboard.
- Your house will be easier to clean. Getting rid of unwanted items creates more space in a home. Less furniture and nicknacks make rooms easier to vacuum and to dust. When deciding what items to keep or donate consider its value to you sentimentally and cost-wise. If it brings you happiness, and it’s something you can’t do without, then keep it. If it’s just another item that gathers dust on the shelf, then likely it’s time for it to go.
