Your Voice Was Heard: AMAC Members Tell Key Senators to Confirm Justice Barrett

AMAC Action launched an effort in selected states to convince Senators to vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. AMAC members sent 4,400 emails to Senators Tim Kaine (D – VA), Thom Tillis (R – NC), Doug Jones (D – AL), Mitt Romney (R – UT), Joe Manchin (D – WV), Lisa Murkowski (R – AK), and Susan Collins (R – ME). Even though Senators Kaine and Manchin previously voted to confirm Justice Barrett to the 7^th Circuit Court of Appeals, they chose to join all other Senate Democrats in voting against her confirmation.

However, Senator Mitt Romney who had early reservations about Justice Barrett and Senator Lisa Murkowski, whose support for her came the weekend before the vote, clearly received the message from their AMAC member constituents telling them to vote to confirm her. Their votes, plus the one of Senator Thom Tillis, pushed the tally to confirm Justice Barrett to 52-48 and cancelled out Senator Collins’ defection.
