Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us. It’s that special day when we express love and affection to those we cherish. When we think about the holiday, what comes to mind are romantic dinners, the exchange of cards expressing our commitment and love, and the exchange of gifts such as candy, flowers, and jewelry. But how did this holiday come about, and who is St. Valentine for whom the holiday is named? The simple answer is that we’re not really sure. But there are many theories and explanations.
