New Biden-Harris Medicare Plan Could Cost Taxpayers $20 Billion in Election-Year Giveaway, CBO Warns

In an election-year stunner, the Congressional Budget Office is warning the Biden-Harris administration’s new Medicare prescription drug plan could cost taxpayers more than $20 billion over three years.

The budget analysis arm of Congress said the increased costs are due to the government subsidizing many seniors’ premiums by sending money to insurance firms, and it would cost at least $5 billion extra in 2025 alone and add to the deficit.

“The higher costs are attributable to the increases in subsidies for premiums and risk corridors,” the CBO told key lawmakers this week.

House Ways and Means  Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, and Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, sent a letter to CBO Director Phillip Swagel seeking the analysis of the Biden plan

CBO responded that federal spending would increase between $10 billion and $20 billion in 2025 compared to earlier projections.

Lawmakers blasted the Biden/Harris administration for imposing such new cost on taxpayers

“As predicted, the Biden-Harris Inflation Reduction Act not only quelled investment for new cures, but caused Medicare prescription drug plan premiums to skyrocket, and Democrats are scrambling to cover it up before the election,” Arrington said .

“In July, the Biden-Harris CMS scrambled to create a new federal program that will send billions of tax dollars to large health insurance companies to cover up a massive flaw in their so-called Inflation Reduction Act.”

The new average plan bid for a standard Part D coverage increases by 179% for 2025 partly due to an underestimation of federal coverage of the Part D changes, CBO said.

I would LOVE to have my Plan D premium double. But noooo….my premium is going from $5/month to $40/month. 8 times higher!!! I wonder how many shell agencies our money is going through. Medicare is so darn complicated and every piece of paper they push costs us.

“No new taxes for those earning less than 400,000 a year” said our fearless leader. Only we now have fee increases and premiums rise by astronomical percentages. Health insurance premiums for one, car insurance premiums for two, home and rental insurance. Inflation still rising on groceries especially if you want to buy meat. From hamburger to chicken it is so expensive and going out to eat is impossible to afford. A meal at McDonald’s is $15.00 per person. It is a plan to make all of us poor. DEI has to be achieved and that can only be done by making everyone poor. That is more effective than make all of us rich. Then people will stand up to protect what they have achieved. They want people under their thumb and depend on the government dole. No need to think they will do that for you. And by 2030 you will own nothing but you will be happy. According to sloppy prosperity will be achieved from the bottom up and the middle out. Only it hasn’t happened. Why? Ole Joe doesn’t know. Could it be that prosperity has never risen from the bottom up and the middle out? Like Bidenomics is like a chicken in every pot promised in the 1930 ‘s. That worked out good. 10 years of depression. Without WW II it would have lasted another 10 years. Spend and spend and print more and more money doesn’t work. Only Harris and Walz have no idea or plans going forward. When the teleprompter goes out 32 is discussed, huh Kamala. VOTE TRUMP/VANCE and MAGA.

I checked my 2025 premium & it is going from $174 to $199 per month. My husband ia a Vietnam Vet so he is dropping his Medicare & going strictly to VA doctors from now on. They have taken great care of him for his Agent Orange illnesses.
I wonder who is getting all of these free benefits from Biden/Harris cause it sure isn’t the ordinary American taxpaying people!

Don’t tell me the “Inflation Reduction Act” will increase inflation!!! Most importantly, did Biden and Harris get their 10%? And how much did the insurance and big pharma companies donate to the DNC to get this through?!!!

They delayed negotiating Medicare drug prices (President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (P.L. 117-169) into law) until late 2025/2026, why? It appears on two that I checked, that is roughly the time they were expected to become available in the geneic version…meaning it would not affect the drug companies profits…Optics look good but as usual we are getting short changed…

So this administration is “in it” for the insurance companies? SHOCK – not. They’re in the pockets of big business.
I cannot be the only one who has seen the bigger effort in writing these laws is determining the title by which it will be called. They want to make sure it sounds positive for citizens, when the bill itself is the opposite. Inflation Reduction Act is winding up costing taxpayers, especially older ones on Medicare, 5-10 times more for drug coverage.
None of these bills/laws turn out to be what they say they are. This is our government, our representatives who seldom represent their constituents. And the non-elected beaurecrats are worse because they are nameless and remain in the shadows. Unless We The People do something to force change, this will get worse and the USA is doomed.

I have had Medicare Advantage for several years. At one time it was great. I could call and see my Primary Doctor in 2 days. Today, if I can see him in 2 weeks I consider myself lucky. I was sitting in my great doctor’s waiting room the day Obamma Care was passed. A nurse came in and said, “Your doctor just retired, your new doctor is a woman from the Philippines.”

Have you checked out the out of pocket prices for the Medicare insurance companies? Some that used to be $4500-$4900 have gone up to $6700 and $9200, $9500 per year, at least around me in Michigan.

The “Democrats” deliberately undermine US Healthcare, while simultaneously vilifying the pharmaceutical companies that provide life-saving medications, despite enormous costs of FDA compliance, and all the research that each pharmaceutical company must fund (at their own risk) for each new product. On the other hand, the “Democrats” champion elective sex change surgeries… even for those in prison.
What the “Democrats” are really after is lower income for all Americans, so they become dependent. Their Number 1 priority is eliminating our currently-affluent middle class, which will destroy our ability to sufficiently fund conservative candidates for office.

Sorry but I have a VA appointment 90-days away for a knee that hurts now and can’t see a civilian doctor without authorization or risk not being covered so any problems with Medicare seems small potatoes to me. I dropped my $40/month retiree dental plan with Delta of California because it was virtually worthless except for simple procedures not 64 year old problems. I warned everyone about Obamacare based on my level of government care! I actually look forward to Medicare in a year!

Mr. Solomon seems a decent sort but I question the direction of his concern regarding the government again wasting another mere 20 billion dollars, in this instance in a misguided effort at sending “free” assistance to the aged.
If I were to waste ink griping about the inevitable I would use that liquid to gripe about the hundreds of billions and even trillions spent for our nations offense. That’s right, not defense but offense,
Other than the allowed invasion by the illegals at our borders, this nation has never faced a direct threat to its shores. I take that back, there was that niggling incident later named the “War of 1812”, but ehave changed and after all someone had to invent Canada.
The people whose numbers measure in the thousands whose lives have been destroyed by the recent hurricane damage in the nations southeast sure could use funds amounting initially ih the hundred million dollar range. More later when reconstructing washed out infrastructure. That is a pittance when compared to the hundreds of billions gifted to Gods Chosen Baby Killers over there in Israel or the hundreds of billions provided to literal Nazis in Ukraine.
Now if our nation currently stands for and supports all efforts directed toward the murder of children and helpless women and the elderly by funding the psychopathic government in Israel and also curiously supports the belief in genetic superiority of the invented from whole cloth “Ukrainian Peoples”, then lets add such to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Perhaps add a bloody baby and/or a Swastika to the center of the field of stars on our nations flag. Lets show our pride in being the most evil nation on this planet with the sole exceptions perhaps of two of its close friends, Israel and Ukraine.
