Religious Liberty Is Eroding in Canada. Here’s What Americans Should Learn.

Canada flag freedomOutside of watching the occasional hockey game or purchase of maple syrup, most Americans pay little attention to Canada.

We may know of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s colorful socks, but little of how unpopular he is among his constituency. We may discuss the single-payer health care system, but are unfamiliar with the government’s disrespect for religious liberty of our neighbors to the north.

Faithful patriots in this country who are concerned by the attacks on free exercise of religion in America should also be concerned by the similar attacks on liberty echoing within Canada, a country with strong protections for religious liberty in its Charter for Rights and Freedom.

In light of the immense trade between our two countries, we must determine if religious intolerance is an intangible export that has escaped our notice.

Last month, Alberta’s Child and Family Services barred a Christian couple from adopting a child because their religious views about sexuality—views shared by orthodox Jews and Muslims—were incompatible with “the official position of the Alberta government.”

The Ministry of Children’s Services stated that the couple’s belief that sexuality should not be experienced or explored until a person is married, would not create a “safe, healthy, loving, and inclusive home.”

And in June, Ontario passed a law that gave state agencies the power to prevent families from adopting or fostering children if the parents would not affirm the child transitioning their “gender identity” from male to female or vice-versa, calling such a denial “child abuse.”

Similarly, the American Civil Liberties Union is suing the state of Michigan over legislation that allows faith-based adoption agencies to only place children into homes with mothers and fathers while under government contract.

And much like Ontario, Illinois is requiring foster parents to affirm the gender identity of any child in their care and aid in any medical procedures the child wishes to undergo.

The Canadian government has unilaterally taken positions on sexuality without the consent of its citizenry, much like the Obama administration’s unilateral decision to reinterpret the definition of “sex” to include sexual orientation and gender identity in Title IX.

But if Americans and Canadians can’t adopt or foster children because they don’t affirm a child undergoing potentially harmful hormone therapies and sex-reassignment surgeries or sexual activity outside of marriage, will the government also begin using this criteria for “good parenting” of biological children?

Will they treat the parenting practices of Orthodox Christians, Jews, and Muslims as suspect if they simply refuse to adopt the latest sexual trends?

Also in Canada, the Supreme Court will soon determine if attorneys who hold orthodox religious beliefs on sexuality are eligible to practice law.

Before Trinity Western University could even open its law school, the accrediting legal societies within Nova Scotia, Ontario, and British Columbia voted not to accredit graduates from the university’s school of law, because the Christian university has Orthodox Christian beliefs about marriage and sexuality.

Trinity Western University is the only Canadian university to have received an A+ grade in quality of education over the past seven years, yet in 2014, the Law Society of Upper Canada labeled the students’ views as “abhorrent” and “not welcome in the public marketplace.”

Without a degree from an accredited law school, students cannot practice law in the province.

Similarly, in 2015, the mayor of Salem, Massachusetts, lambasted Gordon College, a Christian university, for its beliefs about marriage after the university president wrote to President Barack Obama asking for a religious exemption from a forthcoming executive order on hiring practices related to sexual orientation and gender identity.

The mayor decided to prohibit Gordon College and its students from using a local meeting hall they had used for years. Lynn Public Schools then banned Gordon College students who were majoring in education from training as student teachers at local public schools.

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges even held a special meeting to consider revoking Gordon’s accreditation.

In both the United States and Canada, governments and accreditors are threatening the ability of graduates of Christian universities to work in the professions for which they have been trained.

Canadian members of parliament also denied member Rachael Harder the chance to chair the Status of Women Committee led by the Liberal Party solely because of her pro-life views. Despite the chair position being procedural, not political in nature, the Trudeau government refused to allow Harder’s “outrageous” views into any kind of position of authority.

Much like a scene from “Mean Girls,” politicians staged a walkout to protest Harder’s appointment because of her viewpoint on abortion. Ultimately, they gave the position to a member of parliament who did not want it.

In the United States, senators, including Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.; Bernie Sanders, I-Vt.; and Al Franken, D-Minn., and leftist organizations like the American Bar Association have smeared judicial nominees like Judges Amy Barrett and Steve Grasz and public officials like Kelvin Cochran and Russell Vought as “unqualified” and “hateful,” simply because of their Christian beliefs.

Their ability to serve as judges, work in government, or lead a fire department is being questioned solely because of their religious views.

In both the United States and Canada, the ability to work in government and pursue your dreams is becoming increasingly dependent on one’s beliefs about sexuality, biology, and the beginning of human life.

These developments should concern all those who believe in the right to not only hold religious beliefs in private, but to exercise them in public.

Canada was founded on the idea of religious pluralism, allowing Catholics living in Quebec to freely practice their faith. The United States was founded as a refuge for religious dissenters, as the Puritans fled persecution from the Church of England.

It is this commitment to religious liberty for all that has led America to defend religious minorities around the world, including Jews, Muslims, Baha’is, Buddhists, and Zoroastrians.

The U.S. and Canada were the only two countries that had ambassadors for international religious freedom. But Trudeau opted to dissolve Canada’s office of ambassador of religious freedom.

If America and Canada, who are traditionally the foremost defenders of religious freedom around the world, are now forsaking that value, what will happen to the Rohingya Muslims in Burma, the Christians and Yazidis facing genocide by ISIS, and the Jews who are facing renewed anti-Semitism in Europe, all of whom the U.S. has fervently advocated for?

Right now, Canadians and Americans of faith have the opportunity to form strategic alliances, especially as they relate to marriage, family, and the free exercise of religion. But the growing threats to religious liberty and freedom of conscience make it especially urgent that these partnerships develop quickly.

Many of the world’s most dire and violent religious conflicts are rooted in lack of respect for religious freedom and religious diversity. There is no time to waste.

Warped perverted adults can suggest to a child that he or she should really be the opposite sex. After endlessly pushing that “training” on a child, they eventually believe what they are being told. As they become a confused adult themselves, they are often pressured into surgery to accomplish that unnatural goal. It never ends well, if you study the comparably short life span in the LGBT+Q “community”.

A biological male or female who decides they would like to be the other sex does not need a surgeon or hormones, they need a psychiatrist. Doctors that profit from preying on this mental disorder are guilty of malpractice.

“(T)he ability to work in government and pursue your dreams” is true only if you have a statist attitude to begin with, or (even worse) intend to become a politician.

Like it or not, politicians are a fact of life. Better get used to them because they are not going away. Better to elect ‘positive stinkers’ than ‘negative stinkers’.

The child abuse in the transgender discussion is going along with a child’s desire to be something they are not and never can be. Biology is the rule and God doesn’t make mistakes. DNA cannot be changed.

That is exactly why I believe that this entire gay, transgender issue is a mental illness. Like all mental illness’s the most disturbing fact is the denial that comes with it. The fact that so many of the gay or transgender factions believe they are correct in their beliefs is a direct result of the denial of their mental illness. When the biology doesn’t agree with the mind then it is the mind that is the problem, not the biology. The percentage of the population that is afflicted with this mental disorder (2 to 3 percent) corresponds to the percentage of the population with other mental disorders. The fact that so many people are buying into their denial is just a function of the liberal mind set. Which I believe is a mental disorder also. How can so many people be so blindly obsessed to destroy their opposition instead of trying to work with them for a middle ground?

Going against what God has created will have dire consequences for the folks who think they can “out-do” our Creator and tell people they can change their God-given gender to whatever they want to be……..that is a huge Mortal Sin!!! Children who have not yet reached the age of reason and who don’t know anything about trans-gendering, shouldn’t be allowed to go ahead with a change. What would happen if it did happen and once they became adults, put the blame on their parents and want to revert back to their original gender……is a double reversal even heard of without further risk to the person’s organs, let alone their mental state???? I think Obama opened up a “barrel of worms!”

Years down the road many of those same parents will probably be in litigation over all of the chaos that was created just for “following the law”. How sad that we are being FORCED to do these heinous “adjustments”

So, children are considered adults at age 5? When do they get the right to vote? If they ‘decide’ that they “wished I’d never been born” as most at one time or another do when something doesn’t go their way, should we as the responding adults give them that as well???

Let’s talk about America for a minute. Activist liberal federal judges, who are not elected and hold their positions for life, are the biggest impediment to freedom, the values that made America great, and our Constitution. They are domestic enemies of the Constitution, and a whole lot of people like me took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Unless Preisdent Trump is able to rein in these out-of-control dictators in black robes, patriotic Americans will be forced to take action to defend the Constitution. Frankly, the federal judiciary has usurped so much power from the other branches of government that even a great leader like Trump may not be able to stop judicial tyranny. The burden of fixing the problem may fall to us.

I also took that oath when I joined the navy and am ready to defend it.

“The free men of America did not wait till “usurped” power had strengthened itself by exercise, and entangled the question in precedents. They saw all the consequences in the principle, and they avoided the consequences by denying the principle.” James Madison

Obama “ruled” by fiat (E.O.) and “precedent”.

Trump needs to stop using E.O.’s and start using legislation to undo Obama’s legacy of “fiat by precedent”!

How, exactly, is ‘Preisdent’ Trump going to ‘rein (also spelled incorrectly) in’ already appointed judges? Take a Civics 101 class and get back to us. Better yet, buy a dictionary first.

Attorney General Sessions should go after the real lawbreakers and depend justice in their regard instead he goes after the lower hanging fruit of legalized marijuana. Come on General and prioritize your actions. The pot situation will still be there when you are done dealing with the real criminal activity. I think everyone knows ethno I am speaking of.

That sounds like a good plan. But there are people who will go against regulations/laws and still get it “under the radar” and those are the ones we need to be wary of out in the streets in cars!

In this discussion we must consider the difficulty in rooting out all those liberals that our past president put in hign places including judges, government agencies, and new laws or executive orders (whatever that is). All these are very hard to reverse. President Trump is experiencing that with absolutely no help from a biased news media and far left education system. Think of the time required to right this ship when he could be moving forward with good policies for US citizens and solving critical issues like North Korea

This kind of confusion has already been settled. It is called majority rules – not minority rules, not elitist rules, not money rules. If laws go against the majority, who do they serve?

The U.S. Constitution is a limitation the people put on themselves to prevent the tyranny of the majority. 1776 was a victory for the rights of the minority from the tyranny of the majority. It was a victory for people to limit the unlimited power of government over the day to day lives of people. Citizens first, Government power last.

Hank, when I went to school, as many of you have, I learned the Majority Rules. Now it’s the Ghouls Rule.

Most, if not all, of what the Nazis did was supported by a majority of Germans and covered by laws duly adopted by the Reichstag. Hank, the answer to your question is that those laws may serve the higher purpose of protecting the rights of the individual, like tremor not.

The people of Canada had a choice for who to vote for a while back. They could have stayed with a conservative or go with a photogenic, empty suit leftist by the name of Trudeau. They selected Trudeau, who espoused many of the same policies as Obama at the time. So ever since Trudeau has assumed office, the country has been pushed leftward in many policy areas. Surprise!…NOT. Elections have consequences, both good and bad. That is not just a phrase, but an actual fact as we in the United States learned painfully after 8 years of Obama. Electing a proud socialist as Canada’s PM was of course a very BAD choice for Canada. So it should NOT come as a surprise that the Trudeau government has moved in the exact same direct Obama was lurching towards with respect to adoptions. Hopefully the people of Canada will learn from their mistake and elect a conservative to undo much of ruinous progressive policies the current administration is putting in place. If not, then we will no doubt read many more stories in the future about how other liberties are being curtailed. It is after all, what socialists do when given power.

The left likes to ban religions that disagree with their views like 31 genders. Well how I believe maybe the religions of the left and they are religions based on unproven dogma what ever they call it be it socialism progressism or any other ism also be banned all democrates should be banned. All agencies with a leftist Pov be banned you know dissolved. . NO civil marriages only by recognized religions who.provide the benefits. Government provides benefits only to worker named not to wife or any one else let the gays have own religion separate from us the public or the traditional religions. Let those who do not agree with th sex they were born with.pay for what they want to become do not burden me the taxpayer with their unreasonable demands. To me being spiritual means you are a leftist who takes to many spirits be that alcohol or the devils weed or.nose candy.
