Citizen

This bill returns power to the states and ensures that states may safeguard that individuals who vote are actually citizens of these United States.

October 17, 2022

The Honorable Gary Palmer
6th Congressional District of Alabama
170 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Palmer,

On behalf of the over 2.2 million members of AMAC – the Association of Mature American Citizens, including over 5,700 residing in AL-06, I write to offer our support for H.R. 8223, the Citizen Ballot Protection Act.

This bill is a simple yet necessary step to allow states to reclaim a portion of their power as expressed in Article 1, Section 4 of the United States Constitution: “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing [sic] Senators.”

Unfortunately, the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 has been interpreted by some to indicate that states cannot require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Further, in 2013, the Supreme Court ruled against Arizona’s proof of citizenship requirement in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council.

It is essential that not only faith in the American election system be restored, but that citizens are ensured their votes are not devalued or diluted at a time when an unprecedented number of illegal aliens are flooding the country and the Biden Justice Department is conducting lawfare to prevent any state from ensuring that those who vote are U.S. citizens (United States v. Arizona was filed 07/05/2022).

It is commonsense that states should be able to require proof of citizenship to guarantee only citizens are voting in our elections.

AMAC thanks you, Representative Palmer, for your leadership to return power to the states and ensure that states may safeguard that individuals who vote are actually citizens of these United States. As an organization representing Americans who hold sacred their precious right to vote, AMAC is pleased to offer our full support for H.R. 8223, the Citizen Ballot Protection Act.

Sincerely,

Bob Carlstrom
President
