Montana is among the most beautiful must-see states of the U.S. Known as the Big Sky Country and the Treasure State, it is home to rich forests of ponderosa pines, spruce and fir trees, shimmering lakes, fresh reservoirs, winding rivers, vast prairies, abundant wildlife, and more. A trip to this magical mountain destination is a one-of-a-kind experience, especially for those who seek time in nature surrounded by picturesque views and adventurous places to explore. August is an ideal month to visit this fourth largest U.S. state, as the temperature is comfortable, park crowds are manageable, and bear-grass blooms may linger.

Yellowstone, partly situated in southern Montana, and Glacier, in Northwestern Montana, are two of state’s most notable National Parks. Per the National Park Service, Yellowstone became the first national park in 1872 and draws millions of visitors each year. The Park showcases unique hydrothermal and geologic wonders and offers something for everyone. Visitors can follow boardwalks and maintained trails to see hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, and geysers up close, or hike 1,000 miles of trails. At the park, it is easy to catch a glimpse of wildlife. In fact, Yellowstone serves as a genuine photographer’s paradise. Glacier National Park was established in 1910 and contains over 700 miles of trails. The Park encompasses more than 1 million acres and a vast pristine ecosystem known as the “Crown of the Continent Ecosystem.” Glacier National Park borders Canada’s Waterton Lakes National Park and the two were designated as the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in 1932, the world’s first International Peace Park.

The drive between Yellowstone and Glacier National Park can be done in about 7 to 8 hours. Helena, Montana, sits roughly about 3 miles from the midpoint, and features numerous modern lodging venues. Though classic hotels offer contemporary conveniences, there is nothing more comforting and memorable than a stay at a top-rated and heartwarming bed & breakfast, such as The Carolina. Located in Helena’s lovely historic district, the turn-of-the-century inn features original craftsmanship to include time honored features such as mahogany woodwork, a mix of eclectic and antique furnishings, and beautiful leaded glass. Enjoy all the comforts of home, including a delicious homemade breakfast featuring specialties such as brioche French toast, pancakes, eggs, and an assortment of fresh fruit. Additionally, the b & b has a lovely patio area where guests can unwind outdoors.

Montana boasts roughly 147,000 square miles of scenery to explore and offers a mix of adventures and landscapes to enjoy. Whether hiking, fishing, horseback riding, biking, boating, camping, or simply taking in the views from a country inn, Montana is an amazing place to observe a variety of natural settings and make new adventures. A visit to Montana’s National Parks should not be bypassed, as each offers a distinct experience, unique panoramic views, and opportunities to absorb an abundance of information about nature, wildlife, weather, and the earth. Montana is also widely known for its rich mineral environment, farm fresh foods and microbreweries, seasonal festivals, skiing and outdoor sports, real-life cowboy/cowgirl experiences, and for its fine hospitality. Whether you stay in town to lodge, shop, and dine, visit parks to watch bald eagles soar, or climb trail systems to observe spectacular views, Montana is a state you spiritually can’t afford to miss!
