Welcome to the Green New Deal, California

If California, our most populous state, were its own nation, it would rank as the world’s fifth-largest economy and boast the highest average household income (outside a handful of “countries” like Monaco or Luxemburg).

And, yet, the governor is begging its citizens to stop using their appliances, turn off their lights, and keep their thermostats at a stifling 78, lest they suffer more rolling blackouts, like some junior mandarin in a Third World country.

Of course, I kid when I say that California is already experiencing the effects of the Green New Deal. A state that still derives more than 66% of its energy from nonrenewable sources, has tens of trillions of dollars to go before it meets President Joe Biden’s promise of a 65% reduction in emissions by 2030. The flooding of an already rickety grid with undependable renewables offers only a small taste of the “transition” to “clean energy.”

Because you can scaremonger about climate change all day long and ratchet it up to insane levels, but no one escapes the laws of physics or economics. California has been forced to extend the life of its last nuclear power plant at Diablo Canyon and gas-fired power plants to save the state from being plunged into darkness rather than the occasional blackout.

As it turns out, most people are only theoretically fans of deindustrialization.

California is following in the footsteps of Germany, which over the past 10 years closed down most of its nuclear power plants and engaged in a national decarbonization of the economy—energiewende. When reality hit, Germany, and thus the rest of the EU, was compelled to start relying heavily on Russian natural gas as it struggled to transition. Then Russia attacked Ukraine.

Rather than falling back on its world-class, environmentally friendly, forward-looking nuclear-energy program, the Germans must now contemplate rationing and historically high prices. If they can avoid this fate, it will only be because the industry has turned back to coal.

Even before the Ukrainian war, Germany was home to the highest global electricity prices per household in the world. As Robert Bryce points out, though California’s households use only about half the national average in energy, they also pay one of the highest rates in the nation—only Hawaii and Alaska beat them. Continued restrictions on reliable, relatively cheap, and portable energy are not only inconvenient, but they also damage growth and opportunity. Decarbonization is objectively immoral.

One of the problems is that California has the power to export its retrograde ideas. Although electric car owners in the Golden State can’t go anywhere these days, the state still plans to ban the sale of gas-powered cars in just 13 years (your used car is going to be worth a fortune).

But since 15 states, including New York and Pennsylvania, have adopted California’s vehicle emissions standards—a federal waiver under the Clean Air Act allows it to have stronger fuel economy standards than the federal government—a cult of Luddites in Sacramento now effectively controls the national automotive industry.

If there was any real big organic demand for EVs, the federal government wouldn’t have to keep massively subsidizing—bribing—the industry into manufacturing them, and California wouldn’t have to mandate you to buy them. Less than 1% of cars, SUVs, and light trucks on the road in the United States are electric.

Right now, electric cars are for wealthy people more concerned about pricey virtue signaling than functionality. A recent University of California at Berkeley study, for example, found that 90% of tax credits for electric cars go to people in the top income quintile.

That’s fine. Knock yourself out. But Democrats are rigging the market to force you to buy a car that has a 200-mile reach and uses erratic and expensive energy when you already have increasingly efficient models in your driveway and tens of billions of easily accessible barrels of offshore fossil fuels here at home—and much more around the world. We have centuries’ worth of the stuff waiting in the ground. Which gives us enough time to come up with some better ideas.

Because, sorry, transitioning away from modernity and into windmills, choo-choo trains, folding fans, and candles isn’t progress; it’s regression. And California is leading the way.

The Socialist/CCP Reps in U.S. Gov. are pushing toward the steps of Saul Alinsky’s Socialist agenda. CA. has a background of U.S. CCP state Representatives. The China Green Deal funds it’s dominancy in electric cars, batteries & solar panels. Bidens gained millions from China, as China advanced in 70+industries, 2,400 products, 140,000 TX border, energy acres, & 150,000 agribusiness acres. TX land & 400 N.D. acres are near Air Force Bases. China’s industries have headquarters in China and U.S. It gives billions to teach Socialism in American education, using Critical Race Theory & LGBQT to diminish others. They’ve infiltrated every aspect of the U.S. making Americans look foolish. The Green Deal creates a grid easily sabotaged, & forces society into dependency & poverty. That makes it easier for them to dominate. Americans need to get wise, react, & get involved.

Just a “Happy Thought”… When the lefties have destroyed our country, economy, environment apolitical plus our transportation system, the wealthy crowd will move to Sweden or Norway and spend their millions of I’ll begotten tax dollars while we walk everywhere, eat one meal a day and read by candles at night. These people are really in history and in other countries might be considered criminals Tha sad part is they think they are helping. In 1965 this same crowd was screaming about the coming ICE AGE. Look it up.Please remember these people keep bringing up ideas not solutions .When Nancy Pelosi started in the house her net was well to do, today her net worth is awesome. Must. Be luck???

The Green New Deal ?? Does that mean that everyone lives in a tent with everyone else while eating crab apples and “Tree Bark”??? While working seven days a week paying 52% income tax and living on forty cents on the dollar with travel permits available for a price… You mean THAT NEW GREEN DEAL?? No thank you I don’t agree with slave labor and a future that destroys my country. Hurry Trump!!!

It’s all so stupid. My high-performance luxury car gets slightly better mileage on the road than my wife’s 4 cylinder compact suv. this is nowhere as simple as the libs make out—oh: that’s right, they always treat things like they’re simple, and they have the answers: then a big sting bomb blows up. And everybody gets to smell like skunk.

The communist state of California isn’t even about going green, it’s croany capitalism at it’s worst! The Obummer admin wasted billions in green subsidies that ultimately failed, (at tax payers expense of course), but what harm is a failed experiment if someone else pays for it? While California elites engage in virtue signaling and continue to jet set around, wealth redistribution through “social justice programs” takes precedent over proper maintenance and building of infrastructure to support the huge population. The taxpayer is expected to sacrifice and pay for the state’s misplaced priorities and lack of planning. As a former California resident, born and raised there, I left a decade ago when I tired of working harder and harder to pay for fun things like housing, feeding and educating illegal immigrants who received free healthcare while I couldn’t even afford health insurance. I was so happy when I moved to northern Nevada, (although less sensible Cali refugees are destroying this state now as well). The real kick in the gut is how I get to breath toxic air from California wildfires every summer, which has a huge impact on air quality reaching all the way across the country! Don’t get me wrong, I love the natural beauty of this world, but I assure you, it’s all about big dollar dirty deals much more than saving the planet! Removing reliable energy sources long before practical alternatives are developed is reckless and irresponsible!

There are 60+ Socialist/Communists in Gov. Last listing 8 of them were CA. Reps. Harris is from Pelosi’s area, her father is Socialist Prof, & her parents knew Obama’s mentor. Pelosi, Socialist Soros, U.S. Soc/CCP, elites had Anti Trump Resistance Conf. in 2016, 2017 to regain Obama/Biden’s Socialist agenda. Biden is CCP endorsed, gaining millions from China, with contacts on Hunter’s laptop, that was suppressed before the election. Ukraine Pros. Viktor Shokin had criminal complaint against Bidens, not Trump. But Pelosi & Socialists flipped it & Russian Hoax on Trump. Putin is following Hitler’s Socialist Regime. Trump sanctioned Russia & Iran, but Biden flipped Trump’s policies, stopped 2 U.S. pipelines, stifled oil leases, then ordered 500,000 Russian oil barrels daily, funding the war. Promoted CCP Green Deal for power & control. Rep Waters & Soc./CCP Dems promoted Marxist BLM riots for chaos, division, & destruction, that infiltrated Jan.6. Cheney & Harris’s husbands worked with China, while Jan. 6 chair Ben Thompson & Marxist BLM co-founder, Patrisse Cullors promoted Nation of Islam. All preplanned.

California can lead the way, but when they start removing gasoline pumps, I’ll bet that 10% of their population will use that last tank of gasoline to move all their things out of the state. For good.

We can moan and groan on here all we want but the only way to do something is to vote the right way in Nov. We failed to vote the right way the last time so why should we think we will get it right this time ? Our opinion dosen’t really count but our VOTE does

The greenies attempted for years to sell us on the idea that we’re running out of the stuff ( petroleum) but when fracking was developed they realized that dog did no longer hunt. So now its the “you’re guilty if you drive a petro auto” gimmick. Another failed idea is mass transit. Many cities (ie Atlanta) refuse to extend their metro lines beyond their original routes. Atlanta, which claims to have a 16 county SMA, offers metro transit to only 4 and has voted down numerous extension bills. So since both the running out of petro and the mass transit options have failed to get people out of their cars, the last resort is the guilt trip. EV batteries require about 1000 lbs of mined material much of which is controlled by the Chi-Coms (ie cobalt from the Congo). So the idea is leave the petro in the ground and go mine something else. The feds will ramp this up to the point of shutting down gas stations.

EV’s also take an hour to charge, for 150 miles, but wondering how fast that goes down, when using air, heat or lights. Especially, when caught in traffic. I can carry an extra gallon of gas, but not heavy batteries, along with reconnection tools. It’s another foolish game for CCP to dominate, create dependency & poverty. Wind turbines freeze, & grids can be easily destroyed, making Americans vulnerable. Especially, northerners enduring the cold weather.

Texas has the highest generation capacity of the states:125,000 mw (mega watts);95,000 is fossil fuel. Wind turbines have a capacity of about 3mw, so it would take 32,000 more of the wind turbines than the 7,000 we already have, plus 20,000 to charge the EVs the commies want to shove down our throats. GE has been in the wind turbine business for 20 years and WORLDWIDE has built 35,000 wind turbines in 20years. I can’t get good figures, but if domestic production of the 5 big wind turbine companies is 6,000 units a year, it would take almost 9 years to supply our needs. Then there are the other 49 states. Residential substations would have to double in size, as would all neighborhood transformers to home charge the EVs. Each home will have to have a DEDICATED 75 – 100 amp circuit to charge a vehicle-almost doubling each homes usage. And none of this is being discussed with hard numbers in the public forum. We need to get it together and force a hard numbers discussion in the public forum: the conservative leaders don’t seem to understand if we have a public discussion, moderate Demos will take notice, and maybe expectations can become something reasonable.

The wind turbines would have to come from China, as U.S. and European manufacturing combined has no realistic capability to meet the needs the leftists have mapped out.

You are correct that the economic costs need to be discussed in detail in a public forum. The Republican politicians are failing massively at this. They are trying to skate by on vague campaign slogans and meaningless talking points. Great for the Dems pushing this green hoax, but terrible for the rest of America.

The public is totally unaware of the true costs necessary to build out everything associated with the Green New Deal the left is pushing. I’ve seen several fairly granular estimates from credible scientific and engineering sources on electrical grid costs to create this Utopian vision being hyped to an ignorant public. Just to upgrade the electrical grid to meet what the left is hyping would run between $10-$15 trillion dollars. Add in a nation-wide roll-out of at least 1 million public charging stations, that estimated cost comes in between $1.5 and $2.5 trillion dollars (the govt mandate to use union labor and the ludicrous govt bidding process drives up the real cost by 25 to 30 percent). The price for electricity will of cost skyrocket in the United States, as it has in Europe. Americans should be prepared to pay 3 to 5 times more for electricity, if they just sit back and accept being fleeced.

I’ve done my own financial analysis of everything from mining, processing, manufacturing and shipping costs associated of lithium batteries and anyone still calling EVs green or cheaper is delusional.

I admit I am leery of using nuclear power plants because of what happened at Chornobyl and the nuclear plant in Japan, but those problems were preventable with proper ongoing maintenance. But using gas instead is just as dangerous if not more, especially in a geographic area that is prone to seasonal fires. But what these climate deniers are forgetting in their rush push to eliminate fossil fuels fuel as an energy source, is that renewable energy will never supply enough energy for the demand needed. Expecting people to give up 75% of their normal everyday usage is totally absurd and unrealistic thinking by elitists who think they are the only ones who know the best solution while not depriving themselves of anything. Do you think Newsom really cares about most of the population who lives in his state of California or just the elite rich? Keep a close eye on California and its Green Energy Program and how “successful” it is for real people who are not rich. They want no gas-fueled cars by 2035 but have yet to have a successful renewable energy program ready to support the needed energy demand for all EV vehicles. People need to charge those EVs vehicles to use them and they have to be plugged in to charge. California expects its citizens to not plug in the EVs unless they allow it. And California has an almost non-existing public transportation system

For 20 years I have lived <5 miles from a nuke plant and only ever think about it when they send their yearly mailer about what to do should there be an accident. As Dave stated we all have a much greater chance of dying just by leaving our homes each day. The Marxist Dems and their acolytes in the WEF et al cannot control the masses if we actually create solutions for our energy needs.

Yet 17 other states around the United States are preparing to adopt the exact same “green policies” as California has. They will fare no better than California has with this nonsense. It’s one thing when one Marxist Governor decides to destroy his own state. If the people of California are happy enough to allow themselves to be punished in this fashion, that is their business. However, when 17 more Governors are preparing to follow suit, it’s time for the adults if there are any still left, to put a stop to this madness. I never would have envisioned the American people would put up with this scam for as long as they have so far.

Well we know the voters in California won’t dump the Democrats no matter what, so that state is toast. As for the other 17 states moving quickly to follow California’s need, I’ve seen the list of states and at least half of them won’t do anything different than California in terms of voting. In order for people to “wake up”, people need two things:

1) the knowledge to understand what is right or wrong with the policies being promoted by the politicians.
2) the will to actually act in their own enlightened self-interests to ensure they don’t go down the wrong path.

Now be honest Max and tell me what percentage of the American voting public has both those necessary attributes? That will tell you how likely it is that those 17 other states don’t just march in lock-step right over the cliff with California in the name of “climate change”.
