Trump Has Fewest Cabinet Secretaries Confirmed Since George Washington

from – The Daily Signal – by Rob Bluey

It took nearly a month, but President Donald Trump is finally operating with at least half of his Cabinet in place. Not since George Washington in 1789 has a newly elected president waited so long.

Twenty-five days after Trump took the oath of office, the Senate on Monday night voted to confirm the eighth and ninth members of his Cabinet: Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin. The six remaining Cabinet nominees will have to wait a while longer.

Why? Unprecedented delays and obstructionism on the part of Democrats have resulted in the most contentious confirmation process in U.S. history, according to a Washington Post analysis. No other president’s nominees have collectively faced similar opposition.

And that’s just the 15 members of Trump’s Cabinet. Other top nominees, such as Rep. Mick Mulvaney to lead the Office of Management and Budget and Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency, continue to wait as well. And then there’s Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, who could face the biggest battle of anyone.

It’s the consequence of a polarized Washington, where Democrats are in no rush to rubber-stamp Trump’s picks, even though past presidents have been afforded such a courtesy.

“President Trump has the fewest Cabinet secretaries confirmed at this point than any other incoming president since George Washington,” lamented Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell last week. “The president deserves to have his Cabinet in place. The American people deserve that, too.”

The Kentucky Republican, a scholar of Senate history, reviewed the records and discovered that prior to the 1950s, most Cabinet nominees faced no opposition at all. (McConnell’s analysis included first-term elected presidents, not those who assumed office after a vacancy.)

In fact, many presidents had their Cabinet nominees in place on Day One. Such was the case beginning in 1881 with President James Garfield and spanning 52 years until President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Washington, of course, was establishing the office for the first time when he was inaugurated on April 30, 1789. His Cabinet wasn’t confirmed until September 1789.

In recent history, Trump’s predecessors have enjoyed a much faster pace of Cabinet confirmations. At this point in their presidencies, here’s how they compared to Trump:

  • Barack Obama had 12 of 15 confirmed.
  • George W. Bush had 14 of 14 confirmed.
  • Bill Clinton had 13 of 14 confirmed.
  • George H.W. Bush had 10 of 14 confirmed.
  • Ronald Reagan had 12 of 13 confirmed.
  • Jimmy Carter had 11 of 11 confirmed.
  • Richard Nixon had 12 of 12 confirmed.
  • John F. Kennedy had 10 of 10 confirmed.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower had nine of 10 confirmed.

Monday’s confirmation of Mnuchin and Shulkin gives Trump nine of his 15 Cabinet secretaries. Two of Trump’s nominees—Sonny Perdue for agriculture secretary and Andrew Puzder for labor secretary—haven’t had a committee hearing yet. Puzder’s is scheduled for Thursday, while Perdue, picked Jan. 18, is still awaiting a date.

The United States of America has been on the path to becoming nothing more than a member state in a global oligarchy for decades. Years ago, I read an article which said this was supposed to be finalized by 2010 but President Reagan’s surprise nomination and election set the timetable back 8 years. G.H.W. Bush was supposed to be the NWO anointed nominee in 1980. After the failed coup in 1981, the NWO bided it’s time until 1988 to put their man in office. Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43, and Obama have all been NWO agents with, it looks like Hillary supposed to be the one in office when we were to be pushed over the finish line. There were not supposed to be any more surprises, but Donald Trump really gummed up their works and now, they don’t seem to care if they are exposed in their plot or in what they have to do to overthrow the current administration to avoid another 4 or 8 year delay. Look at all that is happening that has never happened in our history before, including some openly calling for his assassination, courts making rulings outside their Constitutional authority, what amounts to treasonous information leaks from within government agencies to damage Trump’s Presidency and administration, and mass demonstrations like never before, indoors and outdoors against everyone who sides with the POTUS.

If you never believed in a conspiracy before, maybe you need to pay more attention to what is going on now. 2018 is the 8th year after the Reagan years delay.

The whining cry baby COMMUNISTS lost an election they thought they had all locked up. Now they’re pitching the most monumental hissy fit in the history of the Universe.

They couldn’t lie, cheat and steal their way to an election win so they’re doing what Communists do best – riot in the streets, disrupt society and attack human lives. In government they are doing what their masters have been instructing them to do for over 100 years – disrupt the lawful course of government and destroy it from the inside.

Stop calling them Liberals, Socialists or democrats.

Start calling them what they are – COMMUNISTS. And their allies – MUSLIMS.

This is very serious business and coddling them won’t win. Get SERIOUS!

Once agin the GOP lets the Democrats control how fast things get done. Where is the real leadership? Mitch McConnell is doing just what the GOP has done in the past “Lead from behind”. Time to start behaving like winners.

The goal of the “establishment” of both parties and the media is to handicap the Trump administration is any and all ways. They want the Trump administration to have as little success before the next election in 2018 and then the one in 2020 so the socialists can regain power and return to the destruction of America. They do not want Trump to have any evidence his policies are the correct course for America. Soros is behind every protest, the media is behind every headline which claims hints of dysfunction in the Trump family or administration. All the efforts at keeping the Trump administration putting out brush fires like lawsuits filed against everything Trump does, takes the mins off moving forward. Holding off getting Dr. Carson approved as secretary of HUD is intended to give Carson as little time as possible before the elections in 2018 and 2020, to limit his effectiveness is another. If ever there was a mass conspiracy, this is it!! The corruption in D C can be measured by what it costs to campaign for POTUS! This is great for the establishment of both parties and the media who suckles at the political teat!!! Any “outsider” like Carson then Trump and also Carly Fiorina cannot be allowed to “drain the swamp”!!

The only reason this is happening is hate. Not only do the democrats hate Trump, but America too.
Too many in Congress have been there so long, they have claimed ownership. It’s time We, the People step up and correct this. Vote them out, then have term limits. Get rid of the outrageous pensions. Then maybe we can have a congress who cares about the Country.

And write letters to our congressmen and women. If we’re disgusted with what they’re doing, they need to hear it. The more letters from more people the better.

Well considering that the Democrats are doing everything they can to slow the Cabinet approval process, this is to be expected. Schumer laid out this strategy numerous times right after the election and he and his fellow Democrat Senators are simply doing what they said they would. What I and likely many others find disgraceful is the apparent willingness of Mitch McConnell and several other Senate Republicans to allow this obvious and open attempt to obstruct the formation of the Trump administration to continue. The almost nonchalant attitude being expressed by McConnell and others in the Senate should demonstrate to everyone what these so-called Senators really care about: That is themselves. Being McConnell just got re-elected, he doesn’t have to worry about the voters in his own state for another six years.

If this is going to be the attitude expressed by Congressional Republicans over the next four years, Trump may be able to get very little done. In that case, enough of public may be stupid enough to give some Democrat a chance in 2020. That would of course spell the end of the country as the Democrats would quickly ram through every socialist policy they could, as the RINOs sat on their hands. So the people of Kentucky had better light up the phone lines to McConnell and tell him to stop this nonsense ASAP or threaten to do an emergency recall vote this year and get him out!

You’ve got it right, again! I don’t understand what’s wrong with the Republicans that they can just sit back and let themselves (and us as well) be walked on. The Democrats are a bunch of thugs and the Republicans need to fight fire with fire. Push them. Let the public know what they’re going and how it affects our country – especially security. This divisiveness shows others countries that we are in a weak place and it’s a good time to attack in whatever ways they want to. The people rose up to get Trump elected, they need to do so again by letter writing and phone calls to get the government moving again. It’s stuck right now.
