The Reopening of America Does Not Signal an ‘All Clear’ When it Comes to COVID-19, says AMAC

COVID-19 coronavirusWASHINGTON, DC, June 19 — “We already know what life is like in lockdown mode but are we ready to face the COVID virus as the nation begins the journey back to a semblance of normality.  Bear in mind that precautions will still be required; this bug is not going gently into the night.  It remains a clear and present danger and will be for quite some time to come,” says Rebecca Weber, CEO of the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC].

Weber cautions the elderly, in particular, to be aware of the potential for a “second wave” of infection.  Medical researchers support the notion that the older you are the more susceptible you can be to this new, deadly strain of virus, especially if you have chronic infirmities.  The Centers for Disease Control [CDC] reports that 80% of the deaths due to COVID-19 have been among the 65-plus population in the U.S.

Meanwhile, there are signs that easing restrictions that mitigate the spread of the disease may have consequences, says Weber.  “Several states that may have been too quick to ‘get back to normal’ have seen spikes in the numbers of new coronavirus cases.  So, it’s important that you don’t get over-confident as the nation ‘reopens’ and that you continue to observe protective practices in your daily life.  There may be no need to take draconian measures, but it would be wise to keep your face mask on when you leave your home and to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds when you come back, for example.”

The AMAC chief offers this menu of additional suggestions courtesy of the CDC:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects daily (e.g., tables, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, and cabinet handles) using a regular household detergent and water.
  • If surfaces are dirty, they should be cleaned using a detergent and water prior to disinfection. For disinfection, a list of products with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-approved emerging viral pathogens claims, maintained by the American Chemistry Council Center for Biocide Chemistries (CBC), is available at Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Fighting Productspdf iconexternal icon. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for all cleaning and disinfection products.

Weber offers additional advice, particularly if you find yourself feeling anxious and afraid.  “You are not under house arrest so don’t let yourself feel that all you can do is sit around the house watching TV.  Call your friends and family for chats and, by all means; get up and get out even if you have to wear a face mask.  Take walks and when you are at home keep busy with stimulating distractions such as crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles, a new book and household chores.  When you get up in the morning make a plan for the day.  The supermarkets are open for business and many of them offer special ‘senior shopping hours.’  And, yes, it’s okay to strike up a conversation with a fellow shopper– just as long as you don’t get too close.”

I’m really disappointed that you are joining the fear mongering. Virus and bacteria are all around us. The elderly are particularly susceptible to ALL diseases. None of the elderly want to hurry their demise, but they are very aware they will not live forever. Don’t feed the fear! Signed An elderly women who cares for her 97 and 86 year old mothers

Hey, people, we’d probably be out of this by now if we simply practiced good hygiene, let the virus run its course, and treat those who became sick from it. The panic and crazy contortions we’ve (and still are) putting ourselves through have done NOTHING for the long-term recovery from a disease. Meanwhile, we’ve simply destroyed our economy, culture, and country, because of the misinformation, lies, and hype coming out of the mouths of incompletely and mal-educated “leadership.” I’m not sure we will survive this.

Spamdemic. It never happened as the Sheeple feared. Hydroxychloroquine. 92% full recovery rate within 2-4 days. .
People can stay as falsely informed as they want by watching the misleading news platforms. Or continue to be mouth breathing Ninja Turtles and cower in misleading rhetoric driven by those nice Democrats and the forever ‘imp-artial news’!
Grow up America!

There are second opinions by other doctors who say the mask will not protect you from a virus. Plus people wearing them all day are likely to get sick. Doctors and healthcare professionals change their masks multiple times. I’m 65 and believe in making my immune system strong through a healthy diet, exercise, and supplements. Lots of vitamin C and vitamin D. I take additional vitamin C and D in addition to my multi vitamin. I also invest in quality supplements. No name brand from China. I buy at my local Natural Grocers. It bugs me that building your immune… Read more »

I was so discouraged when I read the article. However, when I read the comments, I was truly heartened! What a huge mess, because of another mutation of the flu virus. Just use common sense, as always, when it comes to your health. Don’t quarantine the healthy and shut down business!!!! Thank you to all who commented. It sure is wonderful to know there are still some people left with an ounce of sense.

A pandemic is when people are dropping like flies due to some disease. The establishment sold us lies about the corona virus from the start with fake data used in modeling just like they did with fake climate change nonsense. The CDC can’t be trusted – watch the movie “Vaxxed” from their website vaxxedthemovie(.) (com) and you will see undeniable facts that the CDC is behind Autism going from 1 in 10,000 babies to 1 in 45 babies – it is astounding that they are still vaccinating babies with over 60 vaccines – sick! Vaxxed 2 shows how vaccines create… Read more »

The article on Covid19 seems quite convincing, but I don’t buy it. It sounds like the liberals are infiltrating a conservative cause in AMAC. covid 19 is no worse than any other flu virus. It seems worse because of MEDIA HYPE, as usual. But have you looked at and compared with other viruses? There are more old people in the world today because we live longer, so of course it is going to seem so awful now. Lockdowns were not needed. People in power think we are too foolish to figure things out for ourselves. This is just a trial… Read more »

One fact that most seem to ignore is that the New York State Health Department’s statistics, which Andy Cuomo showed on one of his daily broadcasts, said that 66% of those who had died of covid in New York had followed all lockdown orders and had not travelled, or in any way disobeyed the leaders’ suggestions. That means that those who obeyed the lockdown were precisely TWICE as likely to die as those who did not follow the orders.

Just more nonsense! Yes, we do need to stay home if sick and stay away from those who are sick, which is common sense, but all the rest is going way overboard!! I have not stayed home, nor have I done all the sanitizing, just my normal cleaning, and neither my husband, 85 with Parkinson’s, or myself, 77, have gotten sick. We take care of ourselves, take good supplements for our immune system, and have a positive attitude. PLEASE quit scaring people!!!

I will not be surprised…at all! When all this pandemic-panic comes to a screeching halt precisely the day after the election.

Test everyone for everything, so we’ll know how many people are afflicted with colds, flu, etc. Then we’ll have more reasons to isolate in fear.
Or we can take care of our immune systems and not worry about all the possible diseases we might be exposed to.

Actually things opened up 2 months too late. Better yet, we should have never closed and locked down the entire country including the young and healthy. This article is garbage that feeds into the leftist narrative of doom and gloom.

Did she just copy and paste this from the news media? I’m so disappointed in AMAC. Come on. Do your homework.

I thought this organization was conservative but once again this article is socialist BS.

This was a farce from the beginning. This was an attempt by the new world order to destroy America’s economy and one man, President Trump. Dr faucci was a tool trained and used by George Soros and Bill Gates to name the principal members of the NWO openly involved. We were used as pawns in this exercise. I am an American and I do not give up my rights like so many did. You people need to wake up and get your head out of your a$$. You were played. You gave up your freedoms and rights without a shot… Read more »

I’m obviously a Scrooge about this covid-19 thing. The 1st indication it was a scheme was doctors complaining at being Required to enter corona-virus as the #1 cause of death even when someone had previous condition and came in with that but “tested positive for covid-19” – even heart attack victims or chronic lung disease. Numbers haven’t borne out it’s really any worse than fall flu or other causes of death for same time period. Just saying….

Fact: We have a brand new unknown virus that spreads easily and has deadly consequences much higher than any other “flu virus” for elderly folks and others with underlying conditions. Until there is a treatment or a vaccine, if everyone wore a mask in places with other folks, you lessen the chance of catching or passing your, perhaps unknown asymptomatic virus by 70 percent. N95 masks 95 percent. If you don’t wear a mask and simply social distance it’s 50 percent that the other person with a mask will get Covid if you are the carrier. It’s commonsense and common… Read more »

Glad to see a common sense article about the realities of today. People are believing there is a conspiracy to take away their rights, when a genuine pandemic is sweeping the world. Yes, we need to get on with our lives, and yes, we need to be much more cautious in our social behaviors for the next year or so. Even as John Grimaldi’s article is posted, the COVID-19 cases in the USA are slightly increasing after weeks of decreasing, and the cases worldwide are continuing to increase from day one.   This worldwide virus started with a single case… Read more »
