Be Thankful for the End of Yet Another Experiment With Socialism, says AMAC

flag-sky-sunThe Pilgrims learned their lesson and now we have learned ours

WASHINGTON, DC – The nation has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend, says Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

“In particular, we should be grateful for the end of yet another experiment with Socialist government.”

The truth is that what happened over the past eight years was not the first time an attempt was made to establish Socialist governance in America.  The Pilgrims experimented with Socialism when they first arrived on our shores, according to Dr. Judd W. Patton, Professor of Economics at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Patton says that the Pilgrims, not having sufficient funding for their journey to the New World, received financing from two businesses, the Virginia Company of London and the Virginia Company of Plymouth.  The Virginia companies were known as “Adventurers.”  And the deal imposed Socialist principles on the colonists.

In an Op-ed article authored by Patton, he noted that the “take it or leave it” contract the Pilgrims entered into with the adventurers called for the colonists to “to have their meat, drink, apparel, and all provisions out of the common stock and goods of the said colony.”  It also called for “all profits and benefits that are got by trade, traffic, trucking, working, fishing, or any other means of any persons, remain still in the common stock until the division.”

In other words, the Pilgrims were to live in what is known today as a Socialist commune.  “The Pilgrims accepted the socialist principle, ‘from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.’  Each person was to place his production into the common warehouse and receive back, through the Governor, only what he needed for himself or his family,” wrote Patton.

But things didn’t work out as planned.  In fact, “contrary to legend the harvests were extremely poor in 1621 and 1622.  It was normal to be hungry.”

The reason: there was little incentive to work the fields.  So, the Pilgrims scrapped the deal they had made with the Adventurers and adopted a free enterprise attitude, allocating to each family in the colony their own parcel of land.

Interestingly, as Patton explained, “in 1621, the Pilgrims planted only 26 acres.  Sixty acres were planted in 1622.  But in 1623, spurred on by individual enterprise, 184 acres were planted!  Somehow those who alleged weakness and inability became healthy and strong.  It’s amazing what incentive will do to improve bad attitudes!”

As Patton concluded in his Op-ed article, “The Pilgrim experience dating from 1623 was and is yet a prototype for the United States of America.  They learned the hard way that: (1) Socialism does not work; it diminishes individual initiative and enterprise; (2) Socialism is not a Godly economic system; and (3) Famine and drought can be used by God to humble a people and set them on a proper course.”

Weber believes that the Republican sweep in the 2016 Presidential and Congressional elections was the result of “America re-learning that Socialism simply does not work.  And so, voters decided to dismantle the Socialist infrastructure that President Obama sought to construct during his two-terms at the helm of the ship of state.  The country took a sharp turn to the left in 2008 when President Obama was elected.  It resulted in a Great Recession, a slow and slippery recovery and a threat to our rights as guaranteed under the Constitution.  We have a Republican Congress and a Republican President and we will soon restore the Conservative balance on the Supreme Court.  The stage is set for a bright, new American future.”

What worries me greatly is that the young generations are being taught that socialism is good, while capitalism and individualism is bad. They are not taught how capitalism has raised more people from poverty than any other system. They are not being taught that the cost of “free” stuff supposedly from the government is not free. The cost is actually their freedom.

Exactly! Just think those throngs of screaming college kids chanting for Bernie’s socialist message will be running things in 10 or 20 years. How competitive will this country be when a majority of the nation thinks the path to prosperity relies on government handouts derived from taking from their neighbors?

Only term limits will rid us of career political hacks like McConnell, McCain, Graham and others who become entrenched and mainly concerned with keeping their jobs and not the best interests of the country.

Yes, we have a Republican President, a Republican Senate & a Republican House of Representatives; but will they do what Republicans seem to do best, play dead & cede power to the enemy!, or will they surprisingly do what’s best for the Country & what’s inspired by a providential God who has long been shoved aside by the Washington elites of both parties! Trump gets a temporary pass; he’s new to the game. But time will shortly tell.

I really don’t think Trump is being given a pass and I don’t think he wants a pass as he has work to do and at this point, we Americans must all back him up as our president and give him a chance to see what he can do for this country and for us We could have done worse if Hillary had gotten it!!! Her bad track record is something not worthy of ever seeing the inside of the WH again……so’s her husband’s track record too! Don’t worry, God is behind Trump all the way.

This is why it’s so important that our young people…our future leaders…get the right education and get to know more about our American history so they will be armed with the truth when their time comes to lead this country, and that their children and grandchildren will all know the truth too. Schools and colleges need to be mindful of the kind of teachers they hire too, and pay attention to the ones who truly love America, instead of the ones who are only trying to promote their own agendas. Kids need to be taught the truth while still in their formative years as they are eager and hungry to learn new things and I’m sure would love to know just how America came to be.

8 years in the wilderness has been pergatory. Each day that loomed dark with the dictator in chief was testing my patience but with God’s help it has ended but patience will be tested because the devil never sleeps. Each day will be a challenge from the left working hard to tear down our principles and defeat us over and over. Time to be STRONG and never let them back in.

Mr. Trump is said to have attended Presbyterian churches…..have never heard if he is a member of one! I’m guessing that he doesn’t speak of his faith in God, publicly, but I’m hoping that Dr. Carson will encourage him to do so in the near future…..RWJ

what do you people think of Hillary’s people wanting a recount to make her president they all ready raise over 6 million dollars to do this..their party should be named demo Rats…. just how long do we have to take it from these socialist people

PaulE

Jill Stein, acting on Hillary’s behalf since Stein herself has NO chance of becoming President, is doing what all good Socialists do: They bilk the public and their followers for every last dollar they can get even after they lose. I looked into the premise of the college Professor who is being mis-quoted non-stop by both the left and the right. His own conclusion is that bad polling data, by the major polling companies who ALL wanted Hillary to win so they continuously slanted the results they reported right up the the day of the election, was why the real election results didn’t match what the mainstream media, the major polling companies and the DNC wanted the results to be. So this recount nonsense is just a continuation of the Socialists throwing an ongoing temper tandrum, because they didn’t get the result they wanted.

Socialism didn’t magically go away in this country just because Trump won the election. It would be a massive mistake to assume that the entire country has learned that socialism doesn’t work and now everyone believes in capitalism. All those millions of screaming, ignorant fools that wanted Bernie or Hillary are still out there. They have learned nothing. Many of these useful idiots are employed by the federal, state and local government and rest assured that they will do everything in their power to try and undermine any reforms Trumps attempts to get enacted. So we cannot think the fight is over and we can go back to sleep. The fight has just begun and will last decades to clean out all the mess the Socialist have created in this country over the last 100 plus years,

Hope this answers your question and doesn’t get flagged for being too direct.

Not at all. Far too many people in this country are now prepared to go back to the sleep of apathy and indifference simply because the election is over and Trump won. They fail to realize that those that want to transform our country into another failed socialist Utopia haven’t gone away. They are merely planning their next series of attacks to undermine any attempts to undo the Progressive (Socialist) damage done to our country over the decades.

And, PaulE, isn’t Obama doing the same thing too, in wanting to undermine everything Trump does because that could mean that his “legacy” will be thrown out with the dirty dish water and leave him wimping? Trump has a rough road ahead and this is why I think it’s necessary to have a good, cohesive team working with him, and with cooperation and no in-house battles, they can get the work done. There is no justice for evil, but punishment, and if the Democrats think they can upset the apple cart hoping to get their way, then they are just asking for punishment. Such poor losers! Just another thought too, is George Soros by any chance involved in this, like he has been with everything the Democrats did?

The first test will be when the economy starts to slow down because of the debt and the banks still making home loans for more than the houses are worth. I hope Pres. Trump can make the changes that will stop that nonsense. That will be the first attack from the left. It will be “we told you this would happen” even though it is their policies that will cause the financial problems. Most retired persons can not take a hit in the market.

Have a friend who voted for Obama, reason. She believed in what he campaigned on. All the promises. Voted for him again. He was going to be someone the young black men can look up to. She has hope for him and all.
Trump at the moment is only president elect. I don’t know how he is going to perform.

In order to completely remove the socialist/communist aspects of our country, we also have to remove the liberal educators that don’t teach our history in the schools and colleges. They are part of the reason our young people don’t think. They teach them that we must be tolerant of everything, whether it is right or not. They also teach them that we must think globally and not of our own country first. The educators need to be re-trained to teach everything even if it is not politically correct.

Hector Cademartori

I’m sorry to say this, but socialist and communists are ideologues, they’re fanatics and they’ll trip with the same stone over and over and over again. The socialist/communist idea is only a dream. It never worked anywhere but they think that “if we only try once more…”
Ironically, it’s more popular in prosperous, richest societies where people can “afford” socialism. Socialism will destroy weaker economies much faster (Venezuela) and it’ll take longer in stronger economies, but it’ll destroy them as well (Europe). It’s a wonderful theory, as explained in the pilgrims’ story, but it has never worked. It doesn’t matter, their supporters will keep pushing it and the dreamers will keep tripping with the proverbial stone. At the end there’s always Capitalism to pick them up and take them to the nearest Starbucks to start thinking about their next try.

This is wonderful news, (pause) We must examine our status and realize that this country became a World Leader through continual hard work and careful listening to prospective leaders. The leaders are elected to serve according to the Constitution. They have specific rules and obligations to follow! No where can I find any authorization to write their own laws!! All Americans should have a copy of the Constitution and refer to it often. If we don’t follow the Constitution (road map) we wind up where we are now.

Great article. Truthful as heck. The amazing thing is that people who embrace socialism do so without truly studying the concept. As we end a socialistic Era in this country I tell people to be thankful that we didn’t have four more years of catastrophe.

We are being given a fresh, new start again and let’s hope nothing goes wrong this time!!!! We have had more than our fair share of “catastrophes” especially these last 8 years, and it’s like getting a “breath of fresh air” with a new administration so let’s all pray for their success and our happiness. I hope we all learned a good, hard lesson that we will never repeat it again or rather, “tri-peat” it again.

Very bold but 100% correct on socialism. Read into history and FDR was the last Socialist president. He was without a doubt a great wartime President, but terrible otherwise. No one could call Obama a socialist because it would get drown out with the R word, especially with the MSM. Just get like minded ones out of the way so we can re-build this great country.

What experiment in Socialism? … Let’s call it what it really is … It’s Communism!!! … It might be Communist-Lite, but it’s still Communism!!! … A Bud-Lite is STILL alcoholic beer with a few less calories. After all, the American Communist Party NEVER endorsed ANY Presidential Candidates from either the major two political parties UNTIL Obama AND Hillary! One has to only look to Obama and Hillary’s past association with the MARXIST Saul Alinsky, which was NEVER reported by ANY of the Media NOR even mentioned by ANY Republican candidate. As a country, we’re not out of danger yet. If Trump doesn’t right the ship look for your next President to be the Communist Elizabeth Warren! … It’s time to hold Trump AND these elected Republican Congressmen and Senators feet to the fire!!! … Do what’s right for the American people and the country first, the rest of the world isn’t OUR main priority. To heck with this Globalist, One World crap. We’re One Nation with many different immigrant peoples, and WE SHOULD HAVE ONLY ONE LANGUAGE, AND ITS ENGLISH, PERIOD!!!!!

We have to see what happens starting January 20. The United States is the most blessed nation on the planet. We have more than one quarter of all fossil fuels of coal, oil, and natural gas (hundreds of years supply.) We have one million square miles of good farmland. And most important we have the innovative people who know how to exploit these assets. Many nations in Africa have the natural resources; but are still poor because they didn’t exploit their assets.

The Trump Administration can set us on the right path to prosperity with their initial policy having the Canadians start paying $7.5 billion to build the Keystone XL pipeline. This will produce thousands of high paying jobs and the final outcome is saving American consumers over $3 billion per year on reduced transportation charges on Canadian and North Dakota crude oil. In addition, stop the nonsense of holding up finishing the Dakota Access pipeline–another money savings for American consumers.

Beside socialism, the Obama Administration wanted to return the United States to mid-19th century lifestyles by forcing the nation to abandon its inexpensive, abundant, and geographically distributed coal, oil, and natural gas.

I will be thankful the people who are coming into office and have been through this so called experiment ? Have a sturdy spine or guts or have a pair to get the necessary job done . America is still dealing with the workings of Billy’s terms and now eight years of this, and many of his cronies are through out our government . So remember when you drain the swamp then you have to clean up the nasties crawling in the muck .

I beleive more Christians vote for D. Trump than they will confess publicly in may years. This current election was a turning point and I truly believe Jesus did HIS part in making things come together. For the Christians who say that Trump wasn’t the perfect candidate, your are right.

There has only been one -perfect- and HE was wrapped up as a man for 33 years and HIS name is Jesus. There will never be a perfect one without sin…we all fall short of the glory of GOD.

I am convinced through Gods word that He has given us everything to succeed in life. His grace is abundant to all. He know all and is the end of all. God knows our decisions, but it not forcing or making decisions for us. We the people, are the decision makers. Good or bad. Things have been this way from the beginning of time. God gives us good instruction to make the right decision. We will reap what we sow.

Here’s a postscript to your article, Mr. Weber. Thank you for it. We all need to know these facts or at least be reminded of them. As for the “Republican” leadership, it may be too early to rejoice in them turning much of anything around. If they perform as they have been during this abysmal (sp.?) Administration, not much will change. I really am concerned by the laissez faire attitude exhibited by the typical, entrenched career politician, who behaves as if the salvation of his or her “career” is of the utmost importance. May the God revealed by the Bible give us more true public servants who see themselves as subject to and employed by the people who elected them, rather than as some kind of celebrities who are not expendable. May that same Sovereign also enable each of us to humble ourselves on a daily basis, so that He may exalt us at the proper time, not we exalting ourselves, going around asking others in effect, “Do you know who I am?” !!!!!!

Paul Revere

I couldn’t agree more, Thomas. I too lack faith in a feckless Republican Congress. As you seem to imply, term limits may be the salvation of our Country. Reelecting the useless piece of dung, Mitch McConnell, as Senate Majority Leader shouts out to me that it’s business as usual. Incidentally, if you didn’t hear, ole Mitch stated that draining the swamp is NOT what the people really want! Can you imagine? He’s as brain dead as a zombie! Might as well have Harry Read back as leader. Well, the new circus will soon be in town. Let’s see if they feature the same old, tired, dog & pony show! ??
