It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie

America unity Las Vegas sin lieA year-end opinion article by Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens

WASHINGTON, DC – Never in the history of the world has it been easier and faster to find out what is happening in virtually every city on the face of the earth.  Nor, has there been a time when news reporting has been so erratic and unreliable.

You don’t know what to believe when you read a newspaper, when you listen to the radio, when you watch television news shows or when you access social media.  It used to be that reporters and editors adhered to a sacred principle: tell the truth.

But it seems that these days it is “cool” to insert opinion and innuendo into their reportage.  It’s gotten so bad that Pope Francis, himself, felt compelled to call out the purveyors of lies in the media.  He issued a plain and simple message to them: it’s a sin to tell a lie.

The Pope issues proclamations at the beginning of each New Year cautioning those who report the news against committing “grave sin that hurts the heart of the journalist and hurts others.”  His message in 2018 will be issued on January 24, 2018 and, in Francis’ own words, will focus on fake news, a term that has become popular in the White House these days.

Journalists perform a mission that is a fundamental principle of democracy.  The Pope said in a preview of his 2018 Message for the media and the world; “You shouldn’t fall into the sins of communication: disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized, or defamation, looking for things that are old news and have been dealt with and bringing them to light today.”

I believe that there may be some men and women engaged in reporting the news who may take the Pope’s message to heart.  But, I also believe that those so-called journalists who are more concerned about getting their own selfish viewpoints aired in public will continue to spew untruths.

So, how do you tell who is telling the truth and who is not?  One way is to look for balanced reporting. If the story is always against someone, chances are you’re listening to someone who is biased.

It is up to each and every one of us to discover the most reliable sources of news by doing the research and checking the facts.  It is not an easy task because the manipulators of news are good at what they do and what they do is practice the sin of yellow journalism—sensationalized, crudely exaggerated fake news.

The vast amount of information that is available to us in the 21st Century carries with it a warning: let the buyer beware.

Fake news = fox , Rush , Beck, levin, Ingraham .
Before Obama had a glass of water at 1600 they were sending in the Marshalls .demanding proof he went to Harvard . They said Nobody saw him there (while he was selected the editor of the Harvard law review).
Interesting , Fox is getting less and less enchanted with that theiving , elder abusing , racist from queens . Coulter is fed up w his wall flipping and flopping .
She and Rush had to beg him to fulfill his biggest campaign promise .
Plus , WE will pay for the see-thru fence extension .

This Pope seems to have drifted some distance from the conservative directives of previous pontiffs. While I agree with him that it is a sin to tell a lie, I’m not sure he always knows the difference.

I know, I’m repeating myself. So, let me cut straight to the chase—before any of our problems can be restored to working order, our Congress and all cabinet offices (BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS) AND ALL NEWS MEDIA MUST RESTORE, OR REPLACE, THEIR BROKEN MORAL COMPASS.
In the meantime, until then, to cover-up this lack of moral fiber, commonly referred to as selfishness and lying, he or she blasts away with all manner of disrespectful blabber (insults, insinuations, fabrications, etc.) to convince their constituents and the public in general, and anyone else that’ll listen, that they’re doing their job, but are held back from accomplishing anything by all kinds of conspiracies from all corners of the bureaucracy.
Again… INTELLIGENCE, WITHOUT WISDOM, IS THE PUREST FORM OF SELFISHNESS, which is pretty much what’s been going on in Washington for the last 40 plus years, especially in congress, the ENTIRE congress.

Richard Weise

Your are—spot on—correct… “let the buyer beware.” Well said.

I must add, the reason the buyer must beware is the people presenting their products and services, be it the “news media”, our governments (city, county, state, and nationally), the entertainment industry, etc., these people have a broken, or possibly lost, moral compass.

Before any of our problems can be fixed, our Congress (BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS) MUST FIX, OR REPLACE, THEIR BROKEN MORAL COMPASS.

Like you said, “let the buyer beware”… until our moral compass is fixed.

God Bless America!

It is indeed a sin to lie! And a half truth is still a full lie. If you don’t believe me, just ask Jesus.

There still remains a very accurate source of what’s really going on in the world. I enjoy reading the comments section on some of the news outlets (including AMAC), as they truly tell what the people are thinking! I sometimes skip right to the comments section without even looking at the article itself.

Since when is it a sin to tell a lie? It is a sin to swear to YHVH God to tell the truth, and then lie; that is taking the Name of God in vain in contravention of the Third Commandment. That is the reason witnesses are sworn to tell the truth and not just engaged in conversation. And it is a sin to “bear false witness” against one’s neighbor, Ninth Commandment. But otherwise, I can’t see where telling a lie (or a “story,” as I was taught to say as a child) is a sin.

In a world of moral relativism, communicating an error or lie to change public opinion or obtain a personal response is acceptable behavior. Ultimately, these moral preferences will lead to lawlessness resulting in chaos, where every person does what is right in their own eyes. When society as a whole rejects the absolute moral responsibility of Creator God, it will descend into corruption.

I prefer to quote successful liars like Joseph Goebbels in controlling the German press during WW II: “Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
Or another of Goebbel’s quotes: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”
Like trying to tie the Russian collusion to Trump!!!
I recommend listening to “One America News Network” and most of the talk show hosts are pretty good too.

Trump publicly encouraged Putin to spy on Hillary . Forget collusion . Look at the 11 points war hero mueller delivered on trump obstruction . Now we can add emoluments violation , soliciting foreign help to spy on the son of an opponent , and illegally using campaign funds to hush up a hardcore porn star . We all know there’s five times more impeachable material on trump than they had on Nixon . Why not “write in” WELD?

Partisanship has infiltrated every corner of government, the Supreme Court, the FBI, both houses of congress and the infamous media. The media is supposed to be the watch dog of government, but instead it has become a bull dog. I gave up my newspaper subscription years ago as I could see how they lavished Obama with undeserved accolades. TV news has gotten so slanted that I gave up on that too. When Trump came along it was a breath of fresh air. I loved his style and appreciated his “telling it like it is.” After 16 years of Bush and Obama, I watched this man touch on most if not all of my grievances. Too me Trump was just what this country needed. He will drain the swamp and to all those naysayers, I believe he will be a truly great president. Once a Democrat, I became a conservative because I could see how Democrats were damaging our country Trampling our values, forcing religion out of schools, trashing Christians taxing and spending and lining their pockets at the same time. Now I don’t respect either party. Republicans didn’t have the guts to stand up and fight. Trump is different in that his platform of making America great again is his way of saying “enough with all the BS. Let’s get down to business!” Democrats wouldn’t recognize the truth if it hit them with a Mack Truck! No more Democrats for me! Trump in 2020!

Running to the ex kgb leader for intel ?
Saying things like “they don’t even look like Indians !”
Throwing paper towels at drowning Puerto Rican’s?
May I ask if trumps lie about obamas birthplace help your

Mr. Weber may have done better than to quote the Pope cautioning “against purveyors of fake news” when he is guilty of purveying the hoax called man-caused global warming and/or climate change. Thousands of scientists world-wide have declared it a hoax perpetrated to further promote globalism and control over mankind to an extent never tried before. C’mon, climate has changed constantly since the great flood. The huge temperature spike around 1100 A.D. when the Vikings moved to Greenland and thrived was man-caused by what? Automobiles? Coal-fired energy plants? But, alas, I do believe in global warming. It happens every morning!!

Respectfully I say you appear to be a shill for the Kochs and their propaganda campaign against the new alternate energy industry . In the last two years , oceans are warming and land ice is melting at an alarming rate . I recommend you fossil fuel shills look back to when the “wacko” environmentalists convinced the powersthat be that spray cans WERE depleting the ozone layer and causing skin cancer which could have been prevented .

Why would you believe there was a time when all journalists were honest? Why would you hold the Pope out as “the” source of judgement of truth? It was the last Pope that “enlightened” the world with his declaration that hell is not a literal place, but a state of mind. A fact known for years by multitudes of Bible students and teachers. A lie is a lie no matter that it is “innocent” because it is based on error. The only real source of all truth is the Bible. As Jesus said “Thy (Gods) Word IS TRUTH”. He also said “You shall know (intercourse with) the truth and the truth WILL make you free”. What ever our desires or beliefs, those things do not make truth.

Dave Holub

I agree with Robert Spears – noting in particular that the current Pope seems to believe he’s more qualified than Jesus and wants to rewrite the Lord’s Prayer (which comes directly from God). You really can’t trust anything or anyone but the Bible. Once you get into the political arena, the truth gets watered down and covered in mud by both sides.

Frank Gavin

The person most guilty of lying continuously and unabashedly is our president. Is difficult to witness daily tweets and newscasts & watch Mr. Trump say the most outrageous things. Perhaps the most remarkable thing of all is that so many other of my fellow Americans cannot see the forest for the trees. The leftist news organizations that you commenters talk about are actually mainstream news sources from which most of us get our information. You must go beyond Fox News and the Heritage Foundation for your information. But regardless of where you get your information the speeches of our president are public and unedited. It is not that difficult to see that he simply is not telling the truth but for some reason we all hear the same words but translate those words differently. I suggest you take the words literally. If a president tells you that he will one day bring to North Korea such violence that “the world has never seen” .. is this true or a lie? If our president tells us that he wants to build a wall between the USA and Mexico and Mexico will pay for it is this true or a lie? My point here is that these statements and so many other statements are absurd. Mexico has no intention of paying for any wall, that is a fact. In regards to North Korea one simply should not get up in front of the United Nations and call their leader Little Rocket Man. One should not make threats that one will not support but if one does make such a threat and is ready to truly support this thread are we behind this action? How well do we know North Korea, a country we are ready to wreak havoc upon? If I asked you the population of North Korea what would you say? How many of you have actually visited South Korea as I have? Do you even know the president of South Korea? Can you write his name down? I suspect most of you know nothing of this area yet you are ready to send in weapons of mass destruction and kill innocent thousands if not millions. And here is my point fellow Americans is that many of you have some very dangerous opinions with very very little information to back it up. I truly hope one day the hate and paranoia that seems to be in many people’s hearts these days we’ll be replaced by influence from a different type of leader, one who seeks peace and harmony in our increasingly smaller world. Many of you will call this ideological and illusionary but all true Christians have faith in a higher good and not this low-lying evil that pervades society these days.

And Frank, why do you not include ALL the major media outlets other than Fox in YOUR assessment of “low-lying evil that pervades society these days”? … You mean that Barack Obama didn’t lie when he claimed that “American families would ALL receive $2500 savings in their healthcare with the passing of the (Un)Affordable Care Act? … And Hillary didn’t lie when she stated that there were NO top secret information on her “illegal” server? … Please, go pedal your left-wing lies to young College students, they’re as gullible as you are!!!

Where do I begin?
Yes, President Trump sometimes says things that will be blown out of proportion. I understand the New York brashness (grew up nearby), but lots of those “lies” ended up making his case (Russian collusion, Hillary’s emails). Don’t forget; he’s part showman. Looking beyond that is not hard to do.
Yes, we agree with you when you equate “leftist news organizations” with “mainstream news sources”. However, we do not get most of our information from them as you do. Just look at the ratings and the polls; that tells you where the viewers are heading. We’re tired of fake news.
Yes, I agree with the president in his assessment that it will require more than a few cuddly words between him and Kim before this threat is quelled. Would you rather play nice and hope the loaded ICBM’s don’t come our way? Peace through strength. If Kim knows we mean business, he might back off, especially if China cooperates. That’s a big “if”.
The United States is a sovereign nation. That must have priority over the concerns of the UN, which hates us, and the aims of the backers of a borderless (i.e., global) society. I wish the UN would abandon their posh NY digs and let someone else foot the bill.
Remember, Frank, we had one of those leaders, “one who seeks peace and harmony”. His name is Barack Obama, and he dragged this country into the depths of a recession like I have never seen. Talk about lies!!! Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Obamacare, Uranium One, the VA, the IRS, meddling in elections fraud (Eric Holder and the New Black Panthers) for starters…and the damage that was done when, for example, he invited to the White House Black Lives Matter, but not police officers. The disdain he demonstrated toward capitalism, patriotism, the Constitution, the rule of law, and conservatives was incredible! Can’t forget the racial divisiveness he did nothing to heal.
President Trump has done a 180: instead of an Apology Tour, he is well on the way toward Making America Great Again. I wonder if you think your investments are “dirty”, and how quickly you’ll donate those profits to the cause of your choice?

Mr. Gavin, I hope you are NOT one of fake news reporters, are you? You are so negative that it worries me you might also be a member of Antifa too, or a desperate Democrat/ LIberal! There is a news station that does report real and true news not only nationally but from around the world and they don’t insert any of their personal comments while reporting. It is called OAN or One America News, and they are on 24/7 so people can get their news at any time of the day. There are 2 programs on OAN that dispel the lies of people in high office and actually report the facts to those lies, so listeners to their program will be informed: they are The Daily Ledger with Graham Ledger and the Tipping Point with Liz Wheeler. If you are able to get OAN news, you should watch and listen to them. They are real and true news reporters, all of them on OAN and it’s the only news station I listen to except to one of the local stations in my area, but that is only because I am interested in the weather broadcast. I don’t pay attention to any of the other MSM as I know they foster fake news and that gets so old so fast, yet they think they are doing the general public who tune in to them, a great big favor with their lies. Funny, but I have not heard President Trump come out with any fake news and just remember, our current president is now tasked with cleaning up the huge messes his predecessor left behind. So, stick that in your hat and let it penetrate your brain, ok? President Trump has kept his promises he made while he was a candidate and the first president in years to make good his promises to us! That’s another one you can stick in your hat and let it penetrate you brain. I am beginning to realize that you must hate Donald J. Trump…..get over it as he is our POTUS and doing a great job, and has the business sense to get things done unlike his predecessor!!!!

It’s time you give our duly elected president a chance to Make America Great Again. Both O and his man-friend wife Michael hate America. They said so more than once on national TV. They both said America should be no better than any other 3rd world country. I didn’t see you call them out….WHY
O depleted our military, didn’t go after ISIS and put us so far in debt I’m not sure we can ever get out. Were you afraid of being called a racist? Because as you well know, if you didn’t agree with O or Michael you were a racist.

Lets try and spice things up a bit by asking some more direct questions than those put forth by Mr. Weber.

1) Is it reasonable and acceptable for the leadership of the FBI and the CIA to openly lie to Congress and the American people repeatedly about their involvement in both ginning up and then leveraging the false Trump / Russian collusion narrative as a means to attempt to undermine the duly elected President of the United States, because they don’t like the outcome of that election?

2) Is it reasonable and acceptable that the mainstream media in this country has spent the last year intentionally misrepresenting (lying) 94 percent of the total time concerning ALL their stories concerning President Trump in 2017? While at the same time virtually ignoring almost all of the positive achievements of the President during that same time period.

Journalism is the the reporting of the cold, hard facts. The who, what, when, where and why of a story. That’s it. Nothing else. Journalist’s personal opinions or political biases have NO place in the reporting of the news. It is up the viewer or reader to personally assess the facts provided. It is NOT up to the journalist to tell the viewer or reader how they should interpret a story. The idea that a news story has to be presented in a balanced fashion, meaning two guests on air presenting opposing viewpoints, is NOT journalism. That is, at best, entertainment and, at worst, political spin for the purpose of propaganda. That is certainly no longer journalism, as the true facts don’t change based on one’s political perspective. Rather news then becomes opinion orientated progaganda, which is what we have being practiced today by so much of the mainstream media. Especially when it comes to anything that is pro fiscal or constitutionally conservative in nature or demonstrates the inherent flaws of progressivism’s policies. Today what we have is if a journalist, network or their like-minded political allies dislikes the facts of a particular story or the people associated with it, they simply willfully chose to distort (lie) or omit whatever actual facts exist so they can “report” (disseminate their propagenda) what they want the “news” to be on a particular subject.

Bottom line: There are honest news outlets out there. Just not many in the United States itself anymore. So one has to use the Internet to access the hundreds of news sources available around the globe and filter out the ones that simply parrot the garbage filling the American or European airways these days. There are also non-news sources, such as Judical Watch, Project Veritas and other organizations that do far more to uncover what both Congress and the mainstream media doesn’t seem overly interested in investigating. Almost everything related to the various Clinton crimes and who is behind the phony Trump collusion case came from lots of FOIA requests and court time on the part of Judical Watch. They then turned over all that information to the various Congressional committees that don’t seem to be able to do the same thing. Amazing how a small, private orgainzation can be so much more effective and achieve far better results than our bloated bureaucratic government…NOT!!!

Have a Very Happy New Year everyone!

I wonder why congress can’t or didn’t know everything Judicial Watch, Project Veritas, The Hill, etc. found so easily. Maybe they just don’t care or maybe there are some deep state individuals who just don’t want the truth to come out (probably a lot of them). The MSM needs to be removed since they can’t or won’t print/talk about the facts, just the facts, and nothing else. And I don’t mean facts that are slanted one way or the other, just the facts reported without bias. The world was so much better when people didn’t lie to advance their agenda. Why can’t people see the direction the “progressives” are trying to take us? Why are college professors allowed to inject their bias into their teaching? The “progressive” agenda is to create a new world order where everyone is run by the government and no one is free to express their God given rights. Case in point, California, where the conservative view is not allowed to be expressed and guns are the evil things that cause all the violence. I wish I didn’t live here even though I was born and raised here. What can you do if your government doesn’t listen to you and passes laws without people voting for them? Maybe I’ll get lucky and the western half of the state will fall off into the ocean. We would lose Disneyland, but some sacrifices need to be made.

PaulE

Congress could do virtually everything Judicial Watch does via the FOIA in federal court. If anything, a FOIA request coming from Congress would likely get faster turnaround time before federal judges, than those coming from a private organization like Judicial Watch. However, Congress does NOT exist to solve problems. They exist to write new legislation and their members exist to be re-elected, if the people don’t expect anything more from them than endless, non-productive hearings on a multitude of subjects. Government in general is NOT an efficient entity designed to accomplish positive outcomes. If Congress were actually focused on getting to the truth on the subjects I mentioned, the Trump collusion matter would have been resolved long ago. The senior members of the FBI and CIA involved in the plot against President trump would have all been identified and facing federal criminal charges for their roles in this mess. However, resolving the issue means no more live TV coverage of members of the House and Senate endlessly repeating how they are “looking into the matter and will get the truth of the matter”. No more being asked to appear on TV talk shows and offer up the same sound bites they have been uttering for almost 18 months now. That a lot of free publicity that helps with their re-election campaigns. Hope this answers your question.

As for California, that is like New York and New Jersey. Once the Democrats have legislative control of a state, they run it like some third world banana republic. They bleed the productive and fiscally responsible of the state to offer handouts to the dependency class, which is their voter base. You and I have NO SAY because we are outnumbered in our respective states by ignorant, progressive voters who like government supporting them. These progressive voters think the money will never end, because they don’t realize the productive will either leave the state or be impoverished by the very progressive policies they are living off of today. In either case, the “free” money will end.

Big issues are conspiracy , obstruction and treason – far more material than they had on Nixon in 1974. The only good thing about news today is that although it’s 90% slanted against Conservatism we do have other options. Because of Social Media, anyone now has the option to get their opinion heard. President Trump can call a news conference and you can just see and hear the biased reporting. I thank God that there is tweeting available. One doesn’t have to just rely on the major media outlets, the President can answer directly to and at the people who unfairly criticize and slant everything he says and does. The major media outlets are unhinged with their attacks and more so now that they can’t control what the populace can hear. It certainly has been educational watching everything unfold since Trump was elected. The Progressively Communist Democrats have completely come unglued in their vitriol to I don’t know, shame those of us who voted for him. It’s hilarious how they’re now exposing themselves to the general populace as the biased dunderheads that they really are! Nothing they say or do can shock me anymore, it’s almost that they’re trying extra hard to be as absurd and ridiculous as they can be! I find it absolutely entertaining to watch and listen to these idiots like Roseanne just completely lose it with their comments and actions. Maybe the average person’s eyes and ears are finally being opened, hopefully they’ll realize the phony bill of goods the Socialist/Communists have been pedaling all these years. We’ll see come the next Presidential Election.
