Dear Representatives Cassidy and Barrow,

On behalf of the 1,050,000 members of AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens, I am writing to offer our strong support for your initiative to protect Medicare Advantage (MA). As the fastest-growing alternative seniors organization in the country, we are extremely concerned about certain funding cuts to MA that could jeopardize the stability of the program for millions of Americans in the future.

In particular, AMAC believes that the projected $25.4 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage in 2014 will gravely threaten MA’s ability to provide satisfactory benefits and plan options to consumers. We fear this could result in higher premiums and co-pays for MA beneficiaries, while limiting the number of provider networks through which consumers receive care. AMAC feels that these cuts – which are derived primarily from the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA), and sequestration – will fundamentally undermine a program that well serves older Americans.

Medicare Advantage has a proven record of containing costs and improving health outcomes for patients and has been successful in reducing the need for expensive hospital readmissions. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that Congress work together to shield MA from harmful funding cuts that could endanger seniors’ access to quality health care.

Thanks to your esteemed leadership on this issue and your steadfast commitment to mature Americans and seniors, AMAC is proud stand with you as you strive to preserve the funds for this important program.

Sincerely,
Dan Weber
President and Founder of AMAC
