Texas Counties Declare an Official "Invasion" at the Southern Border

Leaders from multiple Texas counties recently declared that their jurisdictions are officially under “invasion” amid the crisis taking place on America’s southern border.

In a monumental event in Brackettville, Texas, on July 5th, six different counties announced their intentions to issue a border “invasion” declaration and urged Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott to release a similar declaration. The counties are Burnet, DeMitt, Goliad, Kinney, Medina, Terrell, and Uvalde. During the conference, Kinney County Judge Tully Shahan proclaimed, “The Biden administration won’t do a thing about it. We’re in over our head. We need help and we need Attorney General Ken Paxton and our governor to adopt an invasion under its definition in the constitution. Adopt that invasion and let’s move forward.”

Those in support of the “invasion” declarations argue that Biden and his administration have violated Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution. Article IV, Section 4 states that “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.” Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution also allows for the Texas National Guard to “execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, and to repel invasions.” If Governor Abbot ultimately declares an invasion at the border, Texas will be able to send state officials to quell the surge of illegal immigration that has occurred over nearly the entire duration of the Biden administration.

Governor Abbott appears ready to issue a statewide “invasion” declaration imminently. According to Abbott’s spokesman, Renae Eze, “It’s past time for President Biden and for both parties in Congress to do their jobs and secure our southern border. As the challenges on the border continue to increase, Texas will continue to take additional unprecedented action to address those challenges caused by the Biden Administration.”

In February, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich penned a landmark legal opinion that explicitly described the situation along the U.S.-Mexico border as an “invasion.” To quote the opinion, “The on-the-ground violence and lawlessness at Arizona’s border caused by cartels and gangs is extensive, well-documented, and persistent. It can satisfy the definition of ‘actually invaded’ and ‘invasion’ under the U.S. Constitution.” While Arizona is still yet to deploy any National Guard members to secure the border, two candidates running for Arizona governor this year have vowed to do just that. Republicans Kari Lake and Karrin Taylor Robson have each pledged to utilize National Guard troops to provide support along Arizona’s border with Mexico if elected in November.

Local cities and towns located near the border with Mexico are being tormented on a daily basis by the illicit activities of non-citizens and those who illegally smuggle them into the United States. During the Brackettville event, Goliad County Judge Mike Bennet revealed exactly how overwhelmed his county has been since Biden has taken office by saying, “We have a sheriff’s office with two deputies on duty at any given time, and three to four times per week we have bailouts in our county, and it takes 150 percent of our sheriff’s office resources, leaving the rest of our county totally unprotected. We could barely make budget before all of this occurred, and now we are running way behind.” Goliad County is not alone. Estimates suggest that nearly 4 million illegal immigrants have entered the United States since Joe Biden became president in January of 2021. At this rate, the illegal immigrant population within the U.S. is set to double before Biden finishes his first term. This may sound like a dream to Democrats in large metropolitan areas, but it is absolutely unsustainable for the small, rural communities located in the Southwestern United States who are forced to deal with the ramifications of Biden’s open border on their own.

America is not only being inundated with an influx of illegal migrants, but also with illicit drugs. During this fiscal year, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) has already seized over 430,000 pounds of illegal drugs. This figure becomes increasingly alarming when one realizes that the significant majority of drugs seized by CBP are obtained at legal points of entry. This means that far more products are being transported into America illegally, and the 430,000 pounds simply represent a fraction of the total amount of dangerous drugs that are imported, risking the lives of countless Americans. In 2021, fentanyl overdoses sadly became the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18–45 for the first time in history, with a record of over 100,000 Americans dying from drug overdoses last year. No sensible person would want illegal drugs or illegal immigrants to flow unchecked into their communities, with the exception of two groups. Violent cartels and Democrats are the only two groups who seek to benefit from the situation at the border, and all other Americans are being victimized to support their relentless ambitions.

America is most definitely being invaded by an unprecedented wave of illegal immigration. If more state and local officials are willing to follow the leadership of those at the Brackettville conference, perhaps America will be able to have a secure southern border prior to the next presidential administration.
