Dear Congressman Moore,

On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, I write to offer our strong support for your legislation, H.R. 5343, the Ensuring Patient Access to Critical Breakthrough Products Act.

This bill takes critical steps to ensure that beneficiaries of federal programs have timely access to life-saving and life-improving medical devices that have already undergone rigorous review and priority approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). By establishing a transitional coverage period and streamlining the national coverage determination process, your legislation prevents unnecessary bureaucratic delays that have historically kept innovative treatments out of the hands of seniors who need them most.

Red tape and government inertia oftentimes deny our nation’s seniors access to medical breakthroughs that could extend life, reduce pain, or restore mobility. Your bill respects both the integrity of the FDA’s breakthrough device program and the needs of Medicare patients, ensuring that once a product is deemed safe and effective, it becomes promptly available through Medicare during a critical early period.

This is a pro-patient, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible solution. By improving access to breakthrough devices, the legislation helps seniors stay healthier, more independent, and potentially out of more costly hospital settings. It also gives Medicare time to properly evaluate each device’s impact without punishing patients in the process.

Congressman Moore, thank you for your leadership in advancing this common-sense and compassionate reform. We applaud the House Ways and Means Committee for moving forward on this important bill.

Sincerely,

Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
Senior Vice President
