Following the passage of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” last year, AMAC members are by and large reporting significant tax savings from the bill, crediting the Trump administration with easing their cost-of-living burden and providing some much-needed breathing room in family budgets.

After AMAC sent out a call for real-life stories detailing the impact of the OBBB, the response was immediate and overwhelming – an affirmation not only of the policy itself, but also of the pivotal role AMAC members played in passing it by flooding key members of Congress with messages urging support in the final, decisive days before the vote.

The results show a clear, measurable impact. In just a few hours, more than 1,000 AMAC members responded, with 88 percent taking the time to leave written comments describing their experiences. Respondents reported average tax savings of $2,832, with feedback coming from all 50 states. More than half – 53.1 percent – said they saved more than $1,000, and 29.6 percent reported savings exceeding $2,500.

While most of the debate surrounding the OBBB dealt in abstract budget projections and reported costs, these responses from AMAC members represented real stories of relief and real dollars flowing back into the pockets of real Americans.

The most frequently cited benefit was the $6,000 additional senior deduction (eliminating taxes on Social Security for about 90 percent of recipients), which many members credited with producing something they had not seen in years: a refund. “First refund in years” appeared again and again, often paired with stories of relief on fixed incomes – paying off medical bills, replacing aging vehicles, helping children and grandchildren, or simply remaining self-sufficient.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of positive responses that poured in:

“The new tax laws have finally put some money in our pocket. Instead of paying out $3,700 last year we got $2,500 back in refunds. That’s huge,” — Dean & Wendy, Wisconsin

“I am 90 & live alone. President Trump’s efforts have allowed me to continue to be self-sustaining.” — Mary, California

“My wife’s car was on life support, and we hung onto it as long as we could. Thanks to President Trump’s BBB, we were able to comfortably put money down on a replacement.” — Frank, Pennsylvania

“The new senior citizen deduction is a tremendous relief and has given us peace of mind – and the freedom to truly enjoy the retirement years we worked so hard for.” – Steve, California

“As a senior, no tax on Social Security helps tremendously. The no tax on tips helps my daughter-in-law as a waitress. The no tax on overtime helps my son, who works constantly. So, our family savings from the BBB could total even more than the $5,000 range. We LOVE the Trump tax cuts!” – Eric, Nevada

“Please accept our family’s sincerest gratitude for spearheading the One Big Beautiful Bill, along with the extremely positive impact the tax provisions had on our recently completed taxes for 2025. My wife and I are both seniors, and living on fixed incomes during the previous administration, with high taxes, higher costs for EVERYTHING, and even higher inflation cutting into every penny we own, life was approaching totally unbearable.” – Drake, North Carolina

“We just wanted to say thank you. We are retired seniors living on social security and a small pension. Because of the new income brackets, we will receive all of the taxes we had taken out of the pension back this year. It’s a small amount, but it just might allow us to take a small vacation this year.” – Terri, Missouri

Many responses also underscored the multi-generational reach of the bill. Seniors described how no tax on tips helped working children, no tax on overtime boosted family income, and lower overall tax burdens made it easier to support loved ones. The human element burst through in every response; the impacts of the OBBB were felt at kitchen tables, in repair shops, and at pharmacy counters throughout the country.

The survey also highlighted opportunities to deliver more relief. Some members expressed confusion about income thresholds, frustration with state taxes offsetting federal savings, or concern that very low-income seniors who do not file taxes saw limited benefit. These responses are not a rejection of the OBBB – they reinforce that it was needed relief, not the end of the fight. They point the way forward for AMAC’s continued advocacy to expand tax cuts and price relief for seniors.

Taken together, these stories are a powerful validation of AMAC’s mission and grassroots model. The policy debates, cost estimates, and partisan bickering are behind us. What remains are real people, real families, and real results – made possible by the advocacy of AMAC members and the leadership of President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans. This is what successful advocacy looks like, and it is only the beginning.
