Outrageous Government Spending

By Todd Beamon – Newsmax -Vice President Joe Biden’s one-day trips to Paris and London in February cost American taxpayers more than $1 million, according to multiple reports – just one more example of outrageous government spending.

Biden and his security detail rung up a $585,000.50 tab for a single night on Feb. 4 at the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, a luxurious five-star hotel near the Louvre Museum, The Weekly Standard reports.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail in London reports that Biden’s group spent $459,388.65 for one night on Feb. 5 at the Hyatt Regency in London, where the vice president met with Prime Minister David Cameron.

The contract for the London trip specified that Biden’s crew required 136 hotel rooms for that one-night stay, The Daily Mail reports.

Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, accompanied him to Paris on his European trip, which also included a stop in Germany.

The Mail reports that Biden’s entourage required more than 100 rooms at Le Grand. One night in the presidential suite there costs more than $3,800.

Here’s how the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand is described on its website:

“With floodlit views of the Opera House, this superbly renovated luxury hotel is at the heart of Parisian society. Opened in 1862, it defines historical grandeur, from Café de la Paix to La Verriere Restaurant, set in an 800 square metre winter garden. Elegantly appointed, the hotel’s boutique-style suites overlook stunning landmarks. Located … close to the Louvre Museum, shopping, theatre and banking districts, this luxury Paris hotel is an icon in the City of Light.”

Reaction was swift to Biden’s lavish spending.

“Still no WH tours, but VP Biden’s recent trip to Europe racked up $1mil in hotel room bills,” said U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, among dozens to vent outrage on Twitter.

How convenient that the article fails to mention that the hotel tabs were for the entire U.S.delegation of senior diplomatic officials and essential State Department staff, not just for the Vice President.

Don’t let facts get in the way of your hate.

Well this article is just another excellent example of how if you happen to part of the ruling class, you deserve nothing but the best. No expense will be spared. No cost too extravagant to ensure you have the best time possible. As for the mere peasants you rule over, well they can subsist on whatever crumbs you deem them worthy of having after you’ve taxed and regulated their lives into the ground. If they speak up and complain, well then obviously you tax and regulate them even more until they realize that their place is merely to pay for your lifestyle and enjoyment. By the way, Biden’s trip was significantly less expensive than Obama’s little vacation in Hawaii at the beginning of the year. I don’t recall seeing many articles about the millions spent on that taxpayer financed junket. Now I hear Obama and family will be taking yet… Read more »

Why don’t they stay in our Embassy residences? There must be reasonable security in place in those buildings… I guess they’re not boutique enough for the likes of the Bidens…

How is it we never heard about this health care problem until Obama came along and, why is it we’ve never seen any health care statistics leading up to passing Obamacare?

It’s no wonder there is fraud waste and abuse in the government! It starts at the top! We need to make sure there are checks and balances starting now and in the future!

The arrogant liberal Washington leaders are setting an example of spend, spend & spend every cent that they can get their dirty hands on and this needs to stop. Ameican can no longer keep borrowing money to pay for all their lavish holidays, golfing, White House entertainment, dinners at big hotels and aid to countries that do not have respect for the USA. And then tell us taxpayers who are funding all their out-rageous spending that we the tax payers need to make the sacrifice….like closing the White House during our Christian Celebration of the Resurrection of Christ….is just a ploy to show us who is in charge. Where are the real conservative leaders…..who are for less spending & smaller government? The president and his cronies all need to go! Wake up America it is not going to get better with the leaders we have in control now. God Bless… Read more »

I think in these tough times, even the Pope old understand if we just sent a bouquet and our regrets due to financial concerns. After all he seems extremely against pomp and circumstance.

Who cares what President did what? Times ave changed. We are struggling financially. Our leaders need to set an example!

Merilee

I just do not understand, with the economy being reported so bad, and people losing jobs, and income levels dropping, and peo ple starving, HOW can they justify their lavish spending and send us PICTURES to prove it and WAVE at us? AND, WE WILL PUT THEM IN AGAIN!!!!!!

mike

HEY ROGER: BUSH SPENT MOST OF HIS VACATIONS AT HIS OWN RANCH, NOT IN SOME FOREIGN COUNTRYS AND EXTRAVAGANT HOTELS.

mike

WELL JOE JUST SHOWED ME HOW MUCH SPENDING HE CAN DO, MAKING HIM PRES. WOULD ONLY REPEAT WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE, MAYBE WORSE!

Allen

OK, I would agree that Mr. and Mrs. Biden where “required” to be in attendance for the Pope’s ceremony. I also agree that you don’t put your heads of state in hotels that are not capable of providing adequate security (some Holiday Inns are by the way). But come on!! What official, critical to need, state business did he carry out in Paris, Germany and England at the tune of $0.5 million a night?! The hypocrisy from all of the “Bidens” in Washington (both democrats and republicans) is sickening. The “ink” on the newspapers isn’t even dry from their crying out how the sequester is going to destroy everything the government does for this country. Obviously it hasn’t changed one, single, solitary thing. If it looks like “b___s___” and lays there like “b___s___” and it smells like b___s___,” it probably means the enlightened truth is….well, a bunch of bull___!” I… Read more »

I’m retired and do contract work from my home to make ends meet. I’ve lived within my means all my life and never thought I would have to work this long. Since my work is by contract taxes are not withheld and I always have to pay at the end of the year despite quarterly payments. Just finished my taxes and I owe another $2,300. Guess this is just my contribution toward Obama and Biden’s trips. Wish I could go to London and Paris!

It is extremely important that we expose the truth regarding this administration. The left wing media certainly will not. However, we must be very careful to be fair and ,keep our side of the street clean. This trip was a state trip made to acknowledge the new Pope. To not have made this trip would have been a questionable “slap in the face” to the Catholic Church. We should not put our delegation up in the Holiday Inn. If there was abuse regarding the number of people in the entourage and they took people who were not necessary to the trip, this should be illuminated. A blanket condemnation without spelling out exactly why there is a problem only empowers the left to cry “bullsh!t”. We must teach and enlighten with the truth. There’s plenty of things happening that we don’t need to embellish anything.

Roger

Pardom me for this reminder, but the Bush administration took more trips on Airforce One, and more vaction time than all the presidents combined.

Alice Harper

I think I’ve reached a point where I just don’t understand our thinking in this country. I don’t seem to agree with anything any longer. This is just plain wrong. We can’t educate a soldier but we can have a lavish night in Paris…taking everyone in sight with me. We can’t have an Easter Egg Hunt but we can play golf to the tune of big dollars….We can’t open the White House to the people that own it but we can have a huge 50th birthday party….what does it take to change these things? I have no idea!

Dannie Mulkey

This total disreguard for the tax paying americans is an outrage. What is it going to take to return control of our government to the people?

Maggie

…and there still citizens in the USA that think these fools are interested in them and this country. This trashy bunch only cares to fill their own needs.

James Bennett

which part of “stop spending tax payers money on yourself” don’t these people understand. It’s just disgraceful for this admin.to keep burning through our money like it’s there personal checking account while they cut spending on important services or things that WE THE PEOPLE want to support. they all need to go !
