During a Sixty Minutes interview that aired Sunday January 6th, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) suggested the government can fund her ambitious “green new deal” agenda by imposing a 70 percent income tax on the wealthiest Americans.
In a clip of the interview released Friday, Ocasio-Cortez argues more Americans should pay “their fair share” in taxes to fund an extensive clean energy infrastructure initiative she and her fellow freshman progressive lawmakers have dubbed the “green new deal.”
Pressed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper on the specifics of her taxation plan, Ocasio-Cortez proposed a drastic income tax increase on the wealthiest Americans and labeled herself a “radical” in the mold of Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt.
“But once you get to the tippie tops, on your $10 millionth, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60% or 70%. That doesn’t mean all $10 million are taxed at an extremely high rate. But it means that as you climb up this ladder, you should be contributing more,” she said.
Cooper responded by characterizing the proposal as a “radical agenda.”
“If that’s what radical means, call me a radical,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
A self-described democratic socialist who unseated incumbent Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th district in November, Ocasio-Cortez has embraced a deeply progressive agenda that includes tuition-free higher education and universal health care. She sparred with Democratic leadership in the weeks leading up to her swearing in over the creation of a special select committee dedicated to combatting climate change — a proposal older, establishment Democrats rejected as unnecessarily disruptive.
In describing the “green new deal” on previous occasions, Ocasio-Cortez has suggested the initiative would not only combat climate change but also redress racial grievances and spur economic growth.
“We can use the transition to 100 percent [renewable] energy as the vehicle to truly deliver and establish economic, social, and racial justice in the United States of America,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a panel discussion on Capitol Hill with Vermont senator Bernie Sanders and environmental activist Bill McKibben.
It is Leftist fools like AOC who are unhinged from reality and history that bring us ever closer to
the next civil war … the clock is ticking.
Yet another example of what passes for “progressive thinking” from a college graduate with a Bachelors Degree in Economics, who is completely illiterate on the subject of Economics. Expect to hear much more from AOC and other so-called brilliant new members of the Democrat controlled House over the next two years. All putting forth equally ridiculous proposals that would have been laughed at just 20 years ago by most of Congress, but now are warmly welcomed by much of the Democrat voter base. The socialist indoctrination process has been hugely successful in most of our public education system over the last few decades.
Pay very close people. This is what the future of the country is going to be governed by as more and more poorly educated and completely indoctrinated Millennials begin to assume power throughout the country over the next few years. The old guard Democrat leadership can’t keep these new, much more openly radical Socialists in check much longer. Just look at the ages of a lot of the Democrat leaders in Congress. Even Pelosi and her hand-picked House leadership team can’t be kept alive indefinitely. Not that they are any less socialist than the younger crowd showcased by the likes of AOC. Pelosi and her crew are just more concerned about not going too far and damaging their own long-term financial interests, while they go about wrecking the nation as a whole. Once the old socialist guard in Congress is reduced in power, then the young socialist revolutionaries, and that is exactly what they are, will begin to assume more and more power and control. That’s when these types of idiotic proposals begin being passed by Congress. Then watch out as things will change very, very quickly in this country.

Instead of yet another new tax, let’s start with EVERYONE in Congress, to include aides, not being paid. At only 2 aides each, that would be close to $250 mil dollars saved by the government. We could also make them PAY, for their own Health Insurance and contribute to retirement funds like the people they are supposed to be representing have to due.

If someone is getting free money and assistance they should pass a drug test or lose it. That would save too. I Kirk in the school system and I’m so tired of the 20 somethings that claim they can’t work and get free housing and food and clothes, etc from everyone, yet they come to school all messed up on drugs or make money they don’t claim on the side. The system is broken. Fix it before raising anyone’s taxes and you will find money. I’ve been a single mother and worked for what I had and had no assistance except baby formula. My dad taught me that you have to take care of yourself in life.
