What ObamaCare is Really About

Submitted by a Concerned Citizen – I’m a 54 year old consulting engineer and make between $60,000 and $125,000 per year, depending on how hard I work and whether or not there are work projects out there for me.

My girlfriend is 61 and makes about $18,000 per year, working as a part-time mail clerk.

For me, making $60,000 a year, under ObamaCare, the cheapest, lowest grade policy I can buy, which also happens to impose a $5,000 deductible, costs $482 per month.

For my girlfriend, the same exact policy, same deductible, costs $1 per month. That’s right, $1 per month. I’m not making this up.

Don’t believe me? Just go to , the ObamaCare website for California and enter the parameters I’ve mentioned above and see for yourself. By the way, my zip code is 93940. You’ll need to enter that.

So OK, clearly ObamaCare is a scheme that involves putting the cost burden of healthcare onto the middle and upper-income wage earners. But there’s a lot more to it. Stick with me.

And before I make my next points, I’d like you to think about something:

I live in Monterey County, in Central California. We have a large land mass but just 426,000 residents – about the population of Colorado Springs or the city of Omaha.

But we do have a large Hispanic population, including a large number of illegal aliens, and to serve this group we have Natividad Medical Center, a massive, Federally subsidized county medical complex that takes up an area about one-third the size of the Chrysler Corporation automobile assembly plant in Belvedere, Illinois (see Google Earth View). Natividad has state-of-the-art operating rooms, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, fully equipped, 24 hour emergency room, and much more. If you have no insurance, if you’ve been in a drive-by shooting or have overdosed on crack cocaine, this is where you go. And it’s essentially free, because almost everyone who ends up in the ER is uninsured.

Last year, 2,735 babies were born at Natividad. 32% of these were born to out-of-wedlock teenage mothers, 93% of which were Hispanic. Less than 20% could demonstrate proof of citizenship, and 71% listed their native language as Spanish. Of these 876 births, only 40 were covered under [any kind of] private health insurance. The taxpayers paid for the other 836. And in case you were wondering about the entire population – all 2,735 births – less than 24% involved insured coverage or even partial payment on behalf of the patient to the hospital in exchange for services. Keep this in mind as we move forward.

Now consider this:

If I want to upgrade my policy to a low-deductible premium policy, such as what I had with my last employer, my cost is $886 per month. But my girlfriend can upgrade her policy to the very same level, for just $4 per month. That’s right, $4 per month. $48 per year for a zero-deductible, premium healthcare policy – the kind of thing you get when you work at IBM (except of course, IBM employees pay an average of $170 per month out of pocket for their coverage).

I mean, it’s bad enough that I will be forced to subsidize the ObamaCare scheme in the first place. But even if I agreed with the basic scheme, which of course I do not, I would never agree to subsidize premium policies. If I have to pay $482 a month for a budget policy, I sure as hell do not want the guy I’m subsidizing to get a better policy, for less that 1% of what I have to fork out each month for a low-end policy.

Why must I pay $482 per month for something the other guy gets for a dollar? And why should the other guy get to buy an $886 policy for $4 a month? Think about this: I have to pay $10,632 a year for the same thing that the other guy can get for $48. $10,000 of net income is 60 days of full time work as an engineer. $48 is something I could could pay for collecting aluminum cans and plastic bottles, one day a month.

Are you with me on this? Are you starting to get an idea what ObamaCare is really about?

ObamaCare is not about dealing with inequities in the healthcare system. That’s just the cover story. The real story is that it is a massive, political power grab. Do you think anyone who can insure himself with a premium policy for $4 a month will vote for anyone but the political party that provides him such a deal? ObamaCare is about enabling, subsidizing, and expanding the Left’s political power base, at taxpayer expense. Why would I vote for anyone but a Democrat if I can have babies for $4 a month? For that matter, why would I go to college or strive for a better job or income if it means I have to pay real money for healthcare coverage? Heck, why study engineering when I can be a schlub for $20K per year and buy a new F-150 with all the money I’m saving?

And think about those $4-a-month babies – think in terms of propagation models. Think of just how many babies will be born to irresponsible, under-educated mothers. Will we get a new crop of brain surgeons and particle physicists from the dollar baby club, or will we need more cops, criminal courts and prisons? One thing you can be certain of: At $4 a month, they’ll multiply, and multiply, and multiply. And not one of them will vote Republican.

ObamaCare: It’s all about political power.

My question is. Is this man’s story accurate as far as premiums are concerned. I have checked Snopes, do not see anything there.

We (The People) appear to have had our eyes opened. Now it is time to act. We know what needs to be done this November. GET OUT AND VOTE!! Vote into office the people who will clean up this mess. Drain the swamp in DC.

I for one had my eyes open from the beginning.

Sorry didn’t finish before I hit submit. I also urge everyone they know to vote in November and vote Republican so we can get these Socialists/Communists and puppets out if office!!!

Last year, 2,735 babies were born at Natividad. 32% of these were born to out-of-wedlock teenage mothers, 93% of which were Hispanic. Less than 20% could demonstrate proof of citizenship, and 71% listed their native language as Spanish.

20% of the babies could not demostate proof of citizenship. Amazing must have left their ID’s in the womb.
You miss the entire point of the affordable care act. Because you girlfriend can be insured for a low cast this means the cost of her care is not being passed on to you in the form of higher premiums. Before the ACA if she needed and could not afford a $50,000 operatiion that cost would be passed on to those who could. Now those costs are paid by her insurance company which received premium income paid by the government.

all politics aside….I cannot resist wondering just exactly what your (ex)? girlfriend thinks of you when you refer to her as a low income, non-motivated, uneducated “schlub”, I believe you called her. Does she also do ALL your laundry, ALL your cooking, ALL your house cleaning AND pick up after your “consulting” ass 24/7. Just out of idle curiosity, of what ethnic background is she? or maybe just a money grabbing leech?? Where is her NEW F-150 “with all that money she is saving”?? To my way of thinking you need a brain enema!! You should go cuddle up to her and give her something to compensate for everything (I didn’t even touch on the FREE SEX) you are getting!!! I have worked with a LOT of low income uneducated hardworking people from many ethnic groups and they will ALWAYS be in more demand than a “sit-on-yer-ass-waiting-for-a-call consulting engineer” because… Read more »

Romantic, you are clearly the disgusting one here. As usual, you left wingers miss the point or are unwilling and or unable to focus on the real issues. Misguided and confused… Lost, irresponsible, and misinformed…blathering about feelings when you should be focused on facts. The point is. Obamacare is not free you moron, someone has to pay for it, and eventually the high producing hard working God fearing earners will tire of caring you lazy jackass leeches and the entire country will unravel like every other socialist/communist country ever has. Get you head out of your ass, please

You’re a Democrat. Focus on the real issue here.

Lots of righteous indignation – just like every other site where social commentary is allowed. This article is just a tiny part of a much bigger problem that everyone seems to forget. Ohaha said in front of God and country that his plan was to “fundamentally change America.” He is on track and on target.

I think most of us realize that Obamacare is but a small piece of a much larger initiative to “transform” the United States. At least I truly hope so. You are correct that he is managing to accomplish much of his original agenda in spite of the resistance he has been encountering from the Republican-controlled House and the half of the country that wants no part of his socialist agenda.

Concerned citizen you need to become an Obama slave. So you must immediately quit your job and drive your income down to a minimum. Then go on unemployment; apply for welfare; apply for food stamps; apply for a free phone; and if you need care just go to the Emergency Room. Then you are “good to go” in the new U.S.A.

Another concern is the Natividad Medical Center. According to the author, last year 2735 babies were born there. Of that number 20% of the mothers could not demonstrate proof of citizenship suggesting they are illegal. Less than 20% of 2735 could be around 500 babies who are immediately granted U.S. citizenship. Those mothers will not be deported because they must stay in America to take care of these new “citizens”. And the mothers will not stop at one child. I’ve seen families of four and five children applying for passports where there is no father acknowledged or he’s declared to be in Mexico. Guess who subsidizes the care of these families. And it’s not just happening in California. How many THOUSANDS of people can we add to the dole before our entire country collapses? It’s not a matter of having the rich people pay more. No amount of money from… Read more »

So as in “Atlas Shrugged” lets all follow John Galt and start a new america

ALL people President, Congress, all should pay in to Medicare, and Social Security. If this was done, with no one taking from either to pay for other wasted trash programs we would be ok. They in Congress will not vote to help this country if it means they have to be required to follow what we the people are forced to do with Obammee. Care. And of course pay flat rate for all on taxes which is fare for rich and poor based on your income and wealth if wealth was taxed at right level. We need work, fare wages, choice of private insurance, in other words freedom to choose not mandated dictatorship laws. People need to wake up! Once you sign up for obamee. Care, which is medicaid then obammee., owns your property including any bank accounts. You cannot leave anything to your children…… its the Government’s property!
Congress, the President, etc. all have paid into Social Security and Medicare for many years now. That is NOT the problem. The problem is that they have NO PROBLEM whatever extending the benefits which they (and we) have paid for all of these many years to others who have never paid into them since they were either not in this country during their working years, or not in this country LEGALLY, because they see this course as being more politically beneficial to them than maintaining the programs’ integrity would be. Congressmen, because they are for the most part millionaires or near-millionaires, are not dependant upon them the way most of the rest of us are. I admittedly have based my finanical decisions, as have most us “seniors” and near-seniors, on the basis that we would receive Social Security and Medicare at or at least near age 65 and it would… Read more »
Hey the comments this author makes are very true and I live on the other side of the USA by the New York side. If you work for a living and pay taxes you are screwed all the way around. I had to, after consulting a lawyer and taking credit counseling, declare bankcrupcty. I have been debtfree for 5 years and live within my budget which means I have no EXTRA money in my take home pay to pay for a high cost health insurance plan which doesn’t even cover my needs because at my age I have to see doctors who are labeled specialists. ( I am 2 years away from enrolling in Medicare) By the way for those uninformed Medicare is not free, there is a cost which is taken out of Social Security if you are getting it or you pay out of pocket until you apply for… Read more »
Seems there is some misunderstanding about the affordable care act. First I assume you, Redfox, don’t mind declaring bankruptcy to get out of paying the bills you owed. But now you don’t’ want to pay for health insurance so if you get sick, the rest of us can pay for the bills. I can see why you don’t want to buy healthcare. As for the watchdog, above, he also doesn’t want to buy healthcare or cannot stand the fact that his girlfriend gets it cheaper. I wonder if you ever noticed how many businesses get tax breaks, grants, income tax deductions that bring their adjusted gross income down to less than zero and yet the owner lives very well. Now, we have a system, not perfect, that makes people pay for what they will get anyway when they get sick. If you don’t have insurance in this country and you… Read more »
Under the previous insurance system, Radfox61 could have purchased a catastrophic policy for a reasonable premium which would have covered him in case he was hospitalized. Now because of the ACA, even if he is allowed to purchase a catastrophic policy, the premium is much higher than previous policies because of the “one plan fits all” mandate. The ACA plans are HMO’s which I can tell you from my own experience do not have the best doctors, therefore healthCARE is worse than under a plan where you have a better choice of doctors. The ACA is just another avenue of “income distribution”. Also you complain about having to pay for people who go to the emergency room because they don’t have insurance. Who do you think pays for the SUBSIDIES? YOU & ME, that’s who, so what’s the difference? Also it is now known that a MAJORITY if the people… Read more »

The people get the government they deserve. They let the government take away the peoples freedoms one
piece at a time and nobody said a word. Did anybody complain when they made it mandatory to wear a seatbelt?
Did anybody complain when they made bicycle helmets mandatory? Can’t smoke in various buildings? Can’t raise your kid’s the way you see fit? Etc. Etc. Etc. Piece at a time. And nobody complained.
The Republicans have tried every way from Sunday to get this healthcare fiasco repealed, yet the stupid voters re-elected that thug in the white house again. And crucified the Republicans. Without a doubt they aint perfect, BUT…
at least they are trying to fight back. Time is running out for this country.

Yes. I complained when every one of those laws were enacted. I don’t smoke but I still feel the second hand smoke laws have gone way too far. In fact it was the passage of these very laws that you mentioned why I and my wife changed our party from Democrat to Republican. So I don’t know where you get your information from that “NOBODY COMPLAINED”. Thats false.Your one of those people that paint a picture with a very broad brush. Most of these laws are passed by progressive liberals. Don’t tell me I have the government I deserve. I didn’t vote for Obama or any Democrat. I agree with your message but you need to get off your pedestal and use better language to deliver it.

This is the Unaffordable Health Care Scam of the century, it is nothing more than income distribution and outright theft by unconstitutional law, that’s law compromised by politician resembling large over paid parasites. Remember this was passed by only one party behind closed doors and never read… Were we to put our politicians in a position where they were more closely inline with their constituents income wise and reminded that no man is above the law and their perks restrained there would be less of this income theft nonsense and rights and liberties would be a lot more appreciated. Term limits no retirement for all elected and appointed government officials, a national sales tax and no government unions would be a sure fire way to manage the size, scope and cost of all government and our rights would be indicated by real representation and not some scheme cooked up by… Read more »

Don’t complain about Obamacare. Just cease working and apply for welfare. If they ask you why you should be on welfare, simply state you want to beat everyone else to it before no one is working. The person complaining about
his girlfriend only paying a dollar should get a similar job at the same pay. He will be living an easier life and other
people will be supporting him. We should all work less so our government gets less. This is the lesson learned by
the people in the old Soviet Union. Work less and demand more from government. It is the new American ethic. You can’t
vote them out, because they have too many freeloaders on their side. Read the Declaration of Independence. It outlines
our problem today.

When are we “true Americans” going to regain our pride in what the United States used to stand for? It is time for us to get as mad as hell and do something about our country..remember that is how the United States got started in the first place. We need some people with enough guts to throw the tea in the harbor and perhaps write a new Declaration of Independence from the socialist liberals who have taken over our previously proud United States.

Larry I agree 100%,I believe the only way to stop this is stop paying our income taxes. I believe if we can get a million or two in each state to work together we can stop this, but it will take some drastic measures to get the attention of Congress to get something done,

Hey! Bud V K– YOU CAN DO Just THAT! It’s called a UCC chapter one filing– Google it!

It’s NOT Congress! It’s US, the voters. WE are the idiots that elected that thug in the white house, TWICE!

I didn’t vote for him once. Did you. If you did, then blame yourself, not me. I wish people would stop blaming ALL the voters for his election. The RNC has to produce a candidate that can win, and the republicans need to get to the booth on election day and vote. That didn’t happen in 2012.

Americans must be as informed as possible,You can no longer take five minutes of news as the gospel.Health care will be more challenged and besieged than ever before. Insurance be it goverment owned or not,can not guarantee can not promise that a beaucratic panel can make life and death decisions in order to cut costs. How can an unknown, non-acountable panel make responsible, humane decisions? i honestly doubt they can.Politicans avoid the subject like scared children. Then you take billions from medicare, while blaming older populations for aging,While telling the rest of the population-they will live to be a hundred? When you take from some to GIVE to others, you have already failed. That is simply stealing and buying votes.

You are so right. They stole money from Medicare. Seniors paid into the Medicare system. Seniors should have been marching on the white house lawn over that. We seniors will be denied coverage that we were entitled to before that. That is what the IPAB BOARD is for. Obamacare has not been fully implemented yet. Obama is waiting for the 2014 midterm elections to be over. Because this healthcare system is not going to be a picnic for seniors. If the money is not there for medicare like it was, we will be getting less care. He campaigned before his first election that maybe granny should take a pain pill instead of going through expensive tests. Nice guy hah? He will never have to worry about being a senior. He will have enough money to get private care. The Jerk!!

I really am sad that ” We the people ” don’t do research on the Internet, (World Wide Web) most of the knowledge that we seek from this tool (computer) can be found here and backed up with truth and facts about our American history, laws that were formed in the beginning of this great place we call home (USA) .. There was no taxation in this land to any great degree until 1940 something, this government started a tax so they could create weapons and whatever else, they told us the American people that they would stop it (being Taxed) after the conflict was resolved but just like they have always done they lied to us again and never stopped the taxes because they realized just how much money was being raised from us .. They have always lied to those of us to get what they want, Native Americans,… Read more »

I have just moved out of new York state because of the be lazy and make babies while on crack and the state will pay you to stay home
after working hard for 41 years in new York l has enough and then the idiot govern said l want your guns so you can’t defend your property and family from the freeloading lazy lowlife’s .l sold everything and moved south.we all need to vote and send money to candidates that work for a living and stop electing the rich who just approve laws that make them richer because they own shares of the health care companies that will benefit from this Obama/liberal health

I just love to read these comments and can only say y’all need a reality check. Try this – my wife and I worked 25 years overseas tax free for what we thought were good salaries (at the end ($100K p.a. comb.) only having to buy clothes, food and entertainment, all other things provided. With a sizeable nestegg 8 years prior returned and retired, being 62 and 68 years old without a 401K of course and knowing no better, invested our savings in property at the height of the market. Within a year were under water and going down fast, with both having then to re enter the workforce on minimum wage low level employment (cashiers) but with health insurance benefits. Obamas change of “08” indeed changed all that, we are again retired (forced) and on social security, combined under $1800 a month. Savings almost depleted, living now in a… Read more »
Sounds like YOU made some serious financial mistakes and blew YOUR nest egg. Now you’ve gone from “good salaries (at the end ($100K p.a. comb.) only having to buy clothes, food and entertainment, all other things provided.” to living on $1,800 a month from Social Security. How is ANY of that the fault of either the government or capitalists? You made bad personal financial decisions, that you thought were good at the time, and now you don’t want to pay the consequences for your own bad decisions. By your own words you said “With a sizeable nest egg 8 years prior returned and retired, being 62 and 68 years old without a 401K of course and knowing no better, invested our savings in property at the height of the market. Within a year were under water and going down fast, with both having then to re enter the workforce on… Read more »

But it was OK when those “capitalists” were paying you 100k a year. Who blew your savings? The capitalists? Nope. YOU did! Who voted for those thugs in the white house and state houses? YOU did!

I didn`t vote for the guy in the white house, and I bet you no one else on this site did.

Except Gillyputtie !!!

Why did the people of New York even elect a professed Communist for Mayor???? As if Obama isn’t bad enough, we have leaders in Colorado and Washington making dope legal – and it will sweep to most other states to boot. Then we’ll not only pay for illegitimate babies by the thousands, their cigarettes, booze and tattoos; we’ll be ensuring that they have money to buy marijuana. Pay attention to signs around you — nearly every convenience store, nail salon, tattoo parlor and game or movie rental place accepts EBT cards. Does anyone really expect that these denigrates are going to vote Republican and cut off the good life???? Don’t think so! We have watched the serious decline of morality, self reliance and pride in this country over the past 5 years – and if the Al Qaeda don’t get us, our own sloth and apathy will.

I truly believe that there was massive voter fraud in our last Presidential election and state elections also. I feel the Dems have that pretty down pat by now. There was fraud all across the country, but you did not see it on the main street medias.

It’s not voter fraud as much as it is simply people being too stupid to make rational, intelligent decisions anymore. In NYC, de Blasio campaigned openly as a proud Progressive and true Marxist. The local newspapers were filled with his history of backing South American communists, but it made no difference. He gave radio interviews where he didn’t shy away from his communist beliefs. Again, it made no difference. The NYC voter turnout was only something like 17 percent of all registered voters in a city where Democrats out-number Republicans 10 to 1. The voters that turned out were like-minded Marxists cheering on the Progressive movement. The other 83 percent of voters that sat home are now going to have the joy of returning to the “bad old days” before Rudy cleaned up the mess.

I really wish some of the posters would learn how to spell. The post would have more impact on my thinking if I could read it without trying to figure out what they were trying to say.

wats rong with ower speling.Sorie abote thate.Tri tu du beter nexed tyme.

I would have thought you would rather have people informed on issues.

Plenty of sheep know how to spell but nothing about the issues that are going on around them. Then there are some that can not spell but know the issues that are surrounding them.

You sound just like an elitist person that likes to judge people on how they dress, the money they make, the car they drive, size of the house they live in and any other worldly possession they can show.

Appears to be texting lingo and not using punctuation. That us why it’s hard to read. They appear to not realize some some us are not familiar with texting shortcuts.

This probably isn`t going to make sense to a lot of people, but I watched Woodstock the other night.Half a million people showed up,all expecting to be fed,and catered to during the event.Look at how they were fed,and housed during the event. That is your Liberal utopia on display. This is what happens when the collective come to the rescue.Under progressive policies, the rich will remain rich, and in some cases even get richer. The poor will become dependent on the slice of bread that is thrown their way,and remain in dependency. They won`t be able to pull themselves up out of that hole, because on their way to creating wealth, they will have to go through the middle class region.Everything they will work hard to achive will be stripped from them at that point. They will find it real hard to prosper past this point, and will eather be stuck there or have no choice but to slide backwards. It… Read more »

Foresight is desperately needed.

Well said sir, well said indeed…We need more people telling the public these issues….thank you.

The problem is that about ninety percent of the media, including the teachers, are democrats. They drown the truth and cover the lies of a democrat official.

Most people who went to the emergency room before Obama care are still going to go the emergency room so where is the savings by providing them health care.

Obama is definitely doing a power grab, just like what happen in Germany when Hitler took over. I hope I am wrong, but it wouldn’t surprise me that there will not be a 2016 Presidential election. What happens this November could indicate what could happen in 2016. (History does repeat itself.)
