jedidiah on Mitt RomneyEven Ann Romney is tired of you talking about Mitt.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

On another matter that has been the subject of much political babbling lately — a potential third run for president by her husband — Ann Romney was happy to wave off the possibility.

“Done,” she said. “Completely. Not only Mitt and I are done, but the kids are done,” she said, referring to her five sons. “Done. Done. Done.”

So, honestly, stop. Really.

GOP, if Mitt Romney is the guy who comes to mind when you think of winning the next presidential election, you’ve been asleep for two cycles and are probably beyond hope.

But if there’s a glimmer of sanity left, here’s an idea. Instead of focusing on a guy who wasn’t a good candidate to begin with and doesn’t want to run again, shift your eyes to those with fire in their bellies, charisma, gutsiness, a vision for the country, and a desire to shake up the system at large. Because the system at large is a hot mess to anyone with common sense and a distaste for the absurdities of the D.C. machine.

P.S. — The “Principles for American Renewal” are a good start (finally). But without a messaging and communications team scattered on TV and throughout the country, who sees them? Who gets that message?

Policy has to be marketed or it won’t be seen. It has to be sold or it won’t be bought. Less Mitt, more messaging.

Amen, PaulE, Amen … You’re preaching to the choir here, but many have “logs in their eyes” and are “tone-deaf” and still will never learn to sing. What ever happened to common sense? … It’s becoming rare!

Another excellent article that is well thought out and straight to the point. Sadly, I seriously doubt the GOP leadership is either awake or paying attention at this point to the people. The GOP leadership is already dusting off the failed strategy playbook, that they have been using for presidential contests since 1992. It only has ONE play in it and so far, they seemed committed to running it yet again. Where is the learning curve at the top of the GOP party? One would think they would realize, after losing time and time again, that maybe, just maybe, they should opt for running a true fiscal conservative who actually believes in limited government. I know, too much to ask for.

So I’m sure the GOP leadership will continue to push Mitt Romney, at every opportunity, as “the only possible GOP candidate that stands a chance of winning in 2016”. I can hear all the usual “talking heads” now. All repeating the exact same message they delivered before the Republican primaries in 2011 and 2012, that we need to run a moderate who won’t offend the cherished (and largely mythical) Independent voters. Their logic is we need to be more Democrat-lite to attract Democrat voters sitting on the fence. Well here’s a news flash for the GOP leadership, those Democrat voters sitting on the fence are going to ALL vote for either Hilary, Elizabeth Warren or whomever the Progressives running the Democrat party decide will be the official nominee. Short of having the Republican nominee wave the hammer and sickle flag and gush about how great Karl Marx was, none of the fence sitting Democrats give a damn who we run.

The GOP leadership already has ALL the slogans, bumper stickers and billboard signs ready to go for Mitt. To them, at least in their minds, the primaries are just window dressing. They think all that needs to be done is change the date on all that stuff from 2012 to 2016. That’s how far out of touch the GOP leadership is. Then we can all watch as history repeats itself yet again, if we follow their plan. However, there is nothing that says we have to allow them to stack the deck in this fashion. WE are the ones who determine who the 2016 presidential nominee will be, NOT them. That is if we have enough brains and guts to make intelligent choices.
