President Trump, Thank You on Behalf of Maine!

Mr. President, you had an extraordinary week – and your poll numbers show it! Among the best moments was a bright light on Maine’s out-of-touch, anti-girl, Democrat Governor. You have started a groundswell, validated parents everywhere, and it will grow. For calling her out, Maine is grateful.

I grew up in Maine, I live in Maine, stepped away to serve my country, came home, and found the state is not the one I left. That must change. You are absolutely right. We have a failed, woke governor. Most Mainers are sick of her. So, thank you …

Thank you for many things, but especially for calling out the lawlessness, dishonesty, and demagoguery of this failed Democrat governor, Janet Mills – who has put Maine’s public safety, fiscal health, and children at risk, who has perverted Title IX, betraying Maine’s girls and women.

As a Maine lawyer, litigator, father of a daughter, and someone who circled the globe advancing truth, freedom, and the rule of law, to see this travesty of justice happen here in Maine, is sobering.

Incredibly, this female governor benefited from Title IX protections herself in law school, getting jobs, and throughout her career – yet reversed Title IX protections for Maine’s girls and women.

Whether for political gain, to raise money for a potential senate bid, or to perpetuate Maine’s shrinking Progressive base, Mills is forcing Maine’s girls to compete against men, despite overwhelming evidence of increased injury. She is forcing Maine girls to have men in girls’ showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms, blithely trampling their dignity, privacy, safety, and peace of mind.

Despite the fact that men in women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and school showers were a felony 15 years ago, Democrats in the Maine legislature continue to endanger girls by siding with this radical governor. In 2024, they rejected a Republican bill to keep boys out of girls’ restrooms.

Incredibly, this arrogant governor – herself a lawyer – knows that Title IX was intended to protect biological girls and women. It never had any other intent. She knows 50 years of precedent support that reality, because in the 1970s she worked for an organization that took that position in court.

She knows she is wrong about the law. Beyond half a century of precedent that protects the uniqueness, physical safety, and opportunities of biological girls and women, she knows a federal court on January 9, 2025, Tennessee v. Cardona, threw out Biden’s redefinition of “sex” in Title IX.

She knows the federal court rejected the Biden Education Department’s rewrite of Title IX, saying it violated legal precedent, “chilled” First Amendment speech with “ambiguity” and “pronouns,” was unconstitutional for being “arbitrary and capricious,” and that it could not stand.

The federal court threw out Biden’s ideological, unconstitutional rewrite, just as any court faithful to Title IX’s plain meaning, origins, intent, application, and decades of precedent would have done.

Maine’s embarrassingly ideological governor knows all this, as she knows that she is obliged, under the “Supremacy clause” of the Constitution, to honor the President’s Executive Order “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” which was signed on January 20, 2025.

To be clear, she is knowingly acting in an extra-constitutional, anti-legal way, asserting a right to reverse the Constitution’s Supremacy clause, ignore 50 years of legal precedent, dump definitions (on which she worked), upend a 2025 federal court decision, and violate a legal executive order.

In a spasm of Progressive belligerence, in the middle of President Trump’s meeting with governors, Mills could not help herself. She had to embarrass Maine, causing fellow Democrats to look away.

She smirked “I’ll see you in court” when President Trump stated the obvious, that federal law supersedes state law on Title IX, protecting girls and women – and that any state violating federal law faces the sanction of monies withheld from their education system. That is the law.

Mills’ embarrassing behavior is not Maine. That kind of ideological belligerence and provocation, throwing over the US Constitution, history, and majority view of Maine citizens is a slap in the face of Maine’s girls, women, and families. It has absolutely no place in Maine, or in our political future.

So, despite Mills’ disgraceful misrepresentation of Maine values, and demagoguery after the event – claiming the law is on her side – we are grateful. President Trump, thank you on behalf of Maine!

Robert (Bobby) Charles is a longtime Maine resident, served in the Reagan and Bush 41 White Houses, was Assistant Secretary of State under Colin Powell, is a Maine attorney, former 10-year Naval Intelligence Officer, is often on Fox & Friends, and wrote “Cherish America.” (2024).

“A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart to the left.” Ecclesiastes 10:2 Unfortunately our government has an abundance of the latter.

Mr. Charles thank goodness for President Trump in calling out your ignorant governor. No wonder the State of Maine is in the shape it is in. You have written several articles on the state of Maine and all the issues it has because of constant democratic politicians being elected time after time which leads to mob rule. I hate the fact your state might lose $250 million dollars in educational aid because of the stupidity of your governor. Pray that she does not run for the senate. Maybe the arrogance of her stupidity will change a lot of Mainers mind about her and finally cast her aside.

Thank you so much RBC for setting it straight for anyone out there that still doesn’t get it!
I’m writing from the state of VT & dealing with a RINO governor, however he is not this deranged on all things WOKE…
Gov Mills made a complete ass out of herself as I did indeed watch the governors’ meeting in its entirety…
VT did indeed move to the right this past election & a personal friend of mine, Larry Hart is now our new State Senator & a member of my Grange too boot!
Mills clearly does not represent the average Mainer, not by a longshot!
All the best,
Bill… :~)

This is what had happened to America under the direction of secular humanist democrats: It became a land where teachers tell students they may have been born in the wrong body and your employment depends on affirming the lie that our society is systemically racist.

Every remaining government politician of the left should be required to look in a mirror so they can identify  themselves when they project all their cultish ideals on everyone else.

A Maine visitor since 1962, where I went to summer camp for 6 years in Naples on Long Lake, I came back on a regular basis in 2005 to fly seaplanes out of Naples from the Naples Seaplane Service airfield and docks. Maine is a beautiful, still remote, and wild place. The current governor, Janet Mills is an anti-American, anti-Maine, a very negative person, with no redeeming qualities. She matches her neighbor to the south like a twin, the Governor of MA, Maura Healey. Both are anti-Constitutional, driving both states into moral and fiscal bankruptcy.

Mainers NEED TO RECALL their embarrassing arrogant, far Left-wing, women-hating, governor. And they need to start the process, YESTERDAY. Because of your IDIOT governor’s war-on-women, it very well may cost Maine $175+ million if she doesn’t protect real females.

Thank you for an outstanding, fact-based article. One of the most thorough pieces of work taking apart this depraved attack on females I’ve read anywhere.
I also have a daughter and take this cultural, biological and illegal insanity very sriously.

The Democrat governors and mayors in open defiance of the supremacy clause with respect to the executive order concerning Title IX as well providing sanctuary for illegal aliens are following the nullification example of Democrats from history.
It was DEMOCRATS that nullified federal law, seceded from the Union resulting in the Civil War. It was DEMOCRATS that fought the implementation of the 1st Voting Rights Act, passed Jim Crow laws, and fought the integration of public schools.
The current Democrat party is new Confederacy.

Having been a stepmother to her late husband’s five daughters for all those years was not enough for her to realize how hateful and dangerous her beliefs regarding the presence of biological males in girls’/women’s sports and private spaces are. I sincerely hope the courts will “change” her mind and that the voters of Maine will take President Trump’s suggestion and shorten her political career very soon.

Mills should be bathed in light, liquid tar and rolled in white chicken feathers! NOW that would make her standout and be A-WOKEN up!

A good use of all those chickens destroyed!

This is no different from other states that are following the Democrat trend of opposing anything Trump does, no matter how much it makes sense, simply because it was Trump that did it. Blind unAmerican defiance is only exposing these politicians for the puppets they are, being financed by the likes of Soros and other corrupt billionairs.

It’s good to know there are people from the State of Maine who support this action and do NOT support a governor who’s NOT working for the citizens of the state. But SOMEBODY elected her. Oh wait….maybe it was the voting machines that did that.

A recent article on Maine’s education failures explained that the state has the lowest ranking for educational prowess of all fifty states. Its fourth graders cannot read. Most young people graduate from high school without ever having read a book from cover to cover. The moral failure of the state’s leaders explains the carelessness and arrogance of leaders like the governor and her lackeys. Only when the citizens of Maine step up and vote out their foolish “leaders” will they turn things around and protect and serve their needy young people. DO IT ASAP!

Maine like my state of California gets what it votes for. Like you I hope for a change but is that a realistic hope? Your governor was reelected in 2022 and the Democrats have occupied the Governors office 9 or the last 17 years. Democrats have also been in the majority in the Senate 12 of the last 17 years and have controlled the House 16 of the last 17. Perhaps if Federal funding is stopped Maine’s Democrats will awaken. Hope springs eternal.

I am a Maine resident. We indeed have a semi-Maoist state government, elected by liberals from our more heavily-populated urban counties. Our few Republican representatives are mostly tepid, and always capitulate vs. Democrats. However, as with most of America, probably 80% of Maine residents disagree with Gov. Mills’ support of men participating in women’s sports.

I’ve been shocked to see Maine turn so “progressive.” But I’m actually glad to see these woke-cult Blue state governors express their TDS resistance so publicly and use state taxpayer funds for the purpose of thwarting Trump while living conditions in their states plummet at an alarming rate. In fact I hope conditions in my state get horrendous for a period of time because it’s the only thing that’s going to wake up enough voters to swing our elected officials away from Democrats.

This is delusional. People are more obsessed with a President than understanding he’s not a celebrity, but a public servant. One who is sending us into a recession in short order. From my perspective, there are some good things that have happened but when we flip flop back and forth with our long term allies, to cater to a dictator, we need to stop pretending that everything happening is great and amazing just because of what party is doing what. Think about what the country needs, it doesn’t need more division and separation. Stop hating on people living the way they want to live. Start loving one another for who we are and focus on the actual problems we face today. We complained about prices on things, they are all sky rocketing because of what is going on right now, not what happened the last administration or the previous one or the previous one before that. We all need to start to open our eyes and remember that what is good for the country is what we should focus on, not EOs about the Gulf of Mexico or other petty responses to people who were just doing their job that the current administration now hates and is going after.
How many complained about the previous administration using the justice system as a political tool? Now what is happening to people being targeted because they just did their job in the past.
I hope we all open our eyes and understand what is going on today is not going to make for a better tomorrow.

Mills is a MORON an embarrassment for the great state of Main. Haven’t had the pleasure of visiting but would love to. Your governor is just another one of the Bottom feeders who suck off of Soros I guarantee. Yalls best bet is to Impeach this Person. Not calling them a Lady because they don’t in anyway fit the bill. President Trump mowed her down at the meeting that day. An she threatened him for Court. So one way or another her Political future is in doubt. Does she even know Gender??

Our daughter and her family live in Maine. They have always had a Progressive bent, at least her husband and she follows along. I was appalled to discover they have taken the COVID shot and boosters. But I was even more concerned when I discovered that if they took my seven-year-old grandson to the doctor he would be asked his gender preference. Since I cannot discuss any of this with them without a rift in the relationship (tried in the past) I took the fact that they are homeschooling as a sign that maybe they are rethinking some of their positions. When I saw the Maine governor taking on President Trump over “transgender” males participating in women’s sports I feared the state (which has always been one of my favorites) was heading for Hell in a handbasket. I am glad to see so many are not at all pleased with the governor’s decision. But then I ask, who voted for her in the first place? Must have been a lot of the people who are now dissatisfied with her so why don’t they do some due diligence before they vote?.

Hey Bobby — wonderful piece, thanks for writing it and for your service. I’m a part time Mainer (Kennebunk) and live full time in Massachusetts, so I’m saddled with nitwit governors at every turn. With any luck, Mainers will rally and do right by their statehouse!

Try and get someone to cut off the governor when she’s in line to go have a meal at the nearby diner or cafeteria line. Watch your wine and get all upset. But it’s OK for millions of illegal immigrants to do it.
