A Medicare Supplement is an insurance policy designed to help seniors pay for the co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles from Original Medicare (Parts A and B). These policies are sold by private insurance companies and can include benefits that Medicare does not offer, like a Foreign Travel Emergency benefit.
Medicare Advantage Plans are a way to receive your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. The benefits are paid for by the plan, not by Original Medicare. These plans are contracted with Medicare. There are different types of Medicare Advantage Plans. If available in your area you can choose between: HMO, PPO, PFFS, SNP, and MSA.
Medicare Prescription Drug Plans are plans with a Medicare contract. These plans are designed to help pay for prescription medications that you get from your pharmacy. Plans have network pharmacies; they may even have preferred pharmacies where you will get the lowest pricing for your prescriptions. Many plans also offer a mail order option.
