Listening is the act of consciously processing that which we hear. However, active listening requires a special type of listening. During active listening, we seek to understand what the other person has expressed or shared, rather than listening to offer an immediate response.
Amazing things can happen when we actively listen to God!
God promises that we can gain wisdom and understanding when we listen to Him. To listen to God, we must first be open and willing to receive His word. His words are alive and speak to us as we read the bible and pray. He wants us to talk to Him and He promises to listen to us as well!
God also speaks to us through other people. Always be open to hearing God through people who you trust and that you know have a strong relationship with Him.
Here are some great scriptures to learn more how we can learn to discern Gods voice and how we can hear from God!
John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” God wants to be our shepherd to lead, love, and protect us.
Jeremiah 29: 12-13 “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” God will also listen to us as we talk to Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” God wants us to acknowledge Him every day, no matter what we do, and He promises to direct us. That means He will communicate to us in a way we are sure to understand.
Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” When we develop a relationship with God, He promises to give us discernment to know His voice.
Isn’t it interesting….. the word ‘listen’ contains the same letters as the word ‘silent.’
