I remember watching this event. We didn’t win the gold but we beat the Russians.

I’m not a hockey fan, but I’ve never forgotten Mike Eruzioni scanning the stands, saying “Where’s my fathuh?” Where’s my fathuh?”

still the greatest moment in sports, atleast in my lifetime, you didn’t have to be a hockey fan, just an American to love and remember it, it was so much more than a sporting event, I watch it in my living room, I actually watch all 7 games in the Olympics. I love many sports, but I can’t imagine anything ever toping the Miracle on ice.

What the puck? Greatest sporting event in history?

It was really sweet when 1980 Team USA consisting of a bunch of amateurs and collegian players defeated the big red national team. The ruskies had dominated the sport the past century and for the USA to defeat them and then go on to win the Gold during the cold war definitely ranks among the top 10 sporting events of all time.

I like when Al Michaels says “5 seconds to go do you believe in miracles”.
I do now Al.

Wow! What an event, Mike Eruzione made millions happy, restored pride in our country and stuck it to the Russkies at the same time.
