The United States will “have a rather large number of tests that are available” within a week or so, says Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
- Tests for coronavirus antibodies are being validated by the National Institutes of Health and FDA to make sure they are consistent and accurate, says Fauci
- “As soon as they get validated, they’ll be out there for people to use”
- Fauci says “as we get to the point of at least considering opening up the country” it will be important to understand how much virus has penetrated society; antibody tests would be used to develop strategies with knowledge of who is vulnerable to the virus
