Climate Crisis Promotors Buying Oceanfront?

climateJust makes one wonder. Something does not smell right.  The sky-is-falling crowd – those high-rolling Climate Change warriors – say the world is ending, oceans to swallow coastlines, cities sink, global warming prevail by 2030.  They cite a 2018 UN report, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez giving us “12 years” to live – or now, down to nine.  Just one question:  If so, why are all these climate change celebrities – buying coastline properties?  See, e.g., https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ocasio-cortez-doomsday-claim-world-end-poll-shows-67-percent-of-dems; and  https://www.ipcc.ch/sr15/.

The latest eco-warrior is Mark Zuckerberg, who testified recently on Facebook’s policies, and is apparently concerned.  Reports Bloomberg: “Climate change has emerged as a key priority in Facebook’s quest to stomp out misinformation, a complicated effort that involves policing user posts while simultaneously defending free speech,” perhaps more the former than latter.  Responding to pressure from “environmental” groups, he has “started fighting climate misinformation.”  See, e.g., https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-13/will-facebook-stop-climate-myths-and-misinformation.

But wait a minute.  If the global warming crisis is just a few years off if private sector solutions like carbon sequestration, carbon capture, reforestation, and mitigation are not to be trusted, why are celebrities like Zuckerberg gobbling up coastal properties? This week, he added to his coastal holdings with another giant buy in Hawaii.  See, e.g., https://news.yahoo.com/zuckerberg-gobbles-another-big-chunk-193106430.htmlhttps://nypost.com/2021/05/01/mark-zuckerberg-priscilla-chan-pick-up-600-acres-in-hawaii/.

Nor are coastline purchases by celebrity climate warriors unique. Climate activists across Hollywood are buyers and owners of vast tracts of oceanfront which, if their politics prove true, should be underwater shortly.

The list of celebrity oceanfront buyers and owners is long – their properties expensive.  The eye-popping part is that these same coastal property buyers – scooping up high-end beach homes like Zuckerberg – are shouting loudest that oceans are inexorably rising, coastlines doomed.

Compare lists.  A sampling helps.  For multi-million-dollar coastal owners and buyers, big lists include ocean homes for celebrities like Leonardo  DiCaprio, Barbara Streisand, Courtney Cox, Cindy Crawford, Celine Dion, George Lucas, Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, and the list goes on.  See, e.g., www.hgtv.com/design/design-blog/design/celebrity-beach-houses-and-vacation-getaways; www.architecturaldigest.com/story/george-lucas-buys-beachfront-home-in-carpinteria-california; www.bing.com/search?q=recently+bought+oceanfront+celebrity&form=EDGEAR&qs=PF&cvid=28ff9123737641249c412106d5fac89a&cc=US&setlang=en-US&plvar=0&PC=DCTS;  www.fancypantshomes.com/celebrity-homes/biggest-celebrities-who-live-in-malibu-california.

The fascinating part is that many of these big-name, high-end oceanfront buyers – are liberals, pushing government involvement for “climate control.”  Thus, a quick scan pulls strong pitches on the environment from a raft of the same people buying and retaining oceanfront land.

In fact, a huge swath of Hollywood – and celebrity America – are both seaside dwellers and big-time climate change activists.   So close is the relationship that one is hard pressed to find those with expensive Malibu houses, not climate change activists or Hollywood personalities not in the climate change game. See, e.g., www.newyou.com/uncategorized/courtney-cox-environment/; www.vox.com/2016/3/2/11143310/leo-dicaprios-carbon-lifestyle; grist.org/article/what-has-leonardo-dicaprio-done-for-climate-change-grist-investigates/people.com/celebrity/celebrities-who-care-about-climate-change/?slide=6731399a-edb5-44b5-8d2f-4b2e02cec3a3#6731399a-edb5-44b5-8d2f-4b2e02cec3a3; www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/pierce-brosnan-malibu-broad-beach-337972; news.yahoo.com/actor-pierce-brosnan-warns-activist-174552786.html.

So, what should we make of this strange phenomenon – those who publicly declare and scare the public with announcements that oceans are swallowing shorelines are buying shorelines?

The answer is one of three:  These Hollywood elites are either rah-rah champions for whatever the liberal political machine champions – in this case, more government for the sake of changing the globe’s weather; or they are deeply conflicted, just as many are in their personal lives – sure one day the world is ending, the next a (government) miracle will keep their property above water; or they are pure opportunists, buying big chunks of coastal land – like Zuckerberg in Hawaii – while nursing a loud “chicken little” narrative.

Which answer applies to which liberal is hard to discern.  The main point is that the narrative falls apart.  If the climate change clan – determined global warming is irreversible and coastal lands doomed – believed what they were saying, why would they be buying oceanfront?  Why would they throw money at future fishing waters?

The only other explanation – in line with the liberal tendency to serve themselves at the expense of others – is that they want big government to save their big mansions, thus push the idea that only government can address a crisis in their resale values.  Whatever the inner conflict, there certainly is one … and if you wonder about that, ask why so many climate change promotors are investing in coastal land.  Just makes one wonder.

Too many liberals don’t believe what they are preaching anyway so why not live it up while they can. The climate change mob ceases to realize that they don’t actually have control of this planet. They didn’t create it and they won’t destroy it. They aren’t God, although some may seem to think that they are (especially in Washington). Kind of like worrying about the sun dying out in several billion years.

And the “Beat” goes on for the Wealthy Liberals..Do as I say, Not as I do. Par for the course for them. Of Course we have Climate Change. It changes on a Daily basis and has since the earth began. Absolutely NO AMOUNT of money thrown at that program will EVER change that. Just one more way for them to try to tax and control the population. What ever happened to “GLOBAL WARMING’?/ wasn’t getting Warm enough for them? Or did Al Gore run out of propaganda? And I’m sure Climate Change makes it sound worse. Hard to believe they can sell this Bill of Goods.

The Progressive Socialists gobble up the property and drive prices up so the ordinary folks can’t afford to…sort of like gentrification in urban areas.

Your critical observation and questioning of actions versus rhetoric
are right on target.

If Leftist elites are buying oceanfront realty then there is NO Climate crisis
ALL BS , see mask wearing, more mindless dribble from the Left.
Hope hurricane wipes those homes out or heavy storm surge does esp Marthas Vineyard.
Some for SF Bay too.
& then see how many own EVs etc
Talk NO action or Lie

Wolves in sheep’s clothing!! Opportunist like Al Gore pushing an agenda to steal wealth from others.

The truth is much simpler.
They themselves do NOT believe their own doomsday rants, and are simply trying to temporarily depress values to scoop up these properties, and/or they’re making big bucks off the whole “global warming” farce.

Another thought: they are crying loudest in an effort to depress oceanfront prices in order to snap up prime real estate at bargain basement prices.

What’s wrong AMAC? Are you too politically correct to allow a scientifically and economically accurate comment to be posted? Please specify which part of my comment needs to be approved?

You are not the first to complain about AMACs hypocritical censoring policies, PaulE. Did your comment contain a link to another site? AMAC censors/omits articles with links in them. I have often personally pointed out the hypocrisy of AMAC in claiming to be defenders of Free Speech in articles while censoring comments to those articles. They claim that their approval requirements of your comments is not censorship, so I guess the censoring or blocking of comments on social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) is not censorship either. I have been a strong supporter of AMAC and recommended them to others, but can’t support their censorship of comments to articles no matter what name they give it. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it is a duck! A rose by any other name is still a rose. The comments posted are opinions of the commenter. Stop the censorship, AMAC. I, for one want to read what PaulE’s opinion of Climate Change is!

My comment didn’t contain any links or language that anyone would object to. It was also placed immediately on “awaiting approval” status as soon as it was posted. So no negative votes assigned to it at that point. Just pure censorship for daring to say the truth behind why both politicians and celebrities are doing what they are doing relative to the whole climate change narrative.

I would agree that we all want to see everyones coments as posted without censorship, but did you ever stop to consider that maybe AMAC is working under restrictions imposed on them from someone further up that has control over their freedom to continue to have this platform and they are simply being cautious in order not to loose it all.
Remember we are not living in the “Free America” we used to live in anymore, we may not know everything that is going on behind the scenes.

I see that your question to AMAC about why your comment was held for approval received a few negative votes. Apparently some readers of AMAC articles approve censorship of free speech.

Yet they did not censor Gerrye’s comment on Climate Control, so you probably included the scary “link” in yours.

The negative votes I honestly don’t mind. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We are still a free country until the Democrats burn our constitution and impose their socialist paradise on us. However, it would be nice if those who object to my simple question to AMAC would at least post why they have an objection. You know, an intelligent response that articulates the rationale behind the objection. Anyway, it is what it is.

“Why would they throw money at future fishing waters?” The answer has been staring Americans in the face for decades. Literally decades! Global Cooling of the 1970s and early 1980s morphed into Global Warming in latter half of the 1980s and through the early 2000s, when their dire predictions of planetary doom all failed to materialize and the real scientific data failed to support their hysterical claims. To keep the scam going and the money flowing, Global Warming had to morph into the even more vague Climate Change, with new, revised dates of impending doom to drive fear and keep the money spigot wide open. The climate scam hysteria is a multi-trillion dollar a year business on a world-wide basis.

Politicians and celebrities want their slice of the pie to advocate for this scam. Yes, it is a scam as there is no concrete scientific proof to date, after decades of data gathering and analysis by actual climatologists, that mankind is the chief driving force driving the small, incremental changes to the planet’s environment. What is being ignored is the normal, evolutionary change of the planet’s environment that has been constantly changing for over 4 billion years thanks to literally dozens of external variables well outside our ability to control or influence.

So it’s not a matter that these politicians and celebrities don’t know any better, because they are not all stupid. Far from it. They just think the vast majority of the public is. That if they keep repeating a lie long enough, that eventually everyone will believe the lie to be true. Thanks to the decades of institutionalized dumbing-down of the public through a complicit public education system pushing “what to think” instead of “how to think” and a lazy and complicit media, they aren’t necessarily wrong. So it should come as no surprise that these politicians and celebrities all believe the public is too stupid to see the obvious hypocrisy of them running around buying multi-million dollar ocean front properties, while at the same time hysterically claiming the oceans will rise to put all these properties and most coastal cities underwater.

Just one last point, they do not expect the government to “save their big mansions”, because they know their properties are not in any actual danger to begin with.
