What Medicare Doesn’t Cover May Surprise You

Most people assume Medicare covers basic dental care. It doesn’t.

Original Medicare (Parts A & B)

Does not cover routine cleanings, fillings, crowns, dentures, or most dental procedures. Coverage applies only in rare medical exceptions — such as before a heart valve replacement or organ transplant.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Some plans include dental, but benefits vary widely, can change every year, may come with additional fees, and cannot be combined with a Medigap plan. What’s covered this year may not be covered next year.

Stand-Alone Dental (AMAC Plan)

Covers cleanings, x-rays, fillings, crowns, root canals, and dentures with predictable, reliable benefits that don’t change year to year. Works alongside Original Medicare or any Medigap plan.
