Blackburn Reacts to Gosnell Decision and Calls for Congressional Action

WASHINGTON – Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today reacted to the guilty verdict that was handed down in the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist who faced 258 total counts and charges including infanticide, racketeering, selling third-trimester abortions, and failure to follow 24-hour waiting periods. Gosnell today was found guilty on at least three first degree murder counts.

“Today is a sad day. It has now been proven that Kermit Gosnell put a price tag on innocent human life and perpetrated merciless violence against women and babies,” said Blackburn. “Gosnell’s conviction is not only an indictment of the abortion industry at large, but it’s also a wakeup call for Congress to re-evaluate the inhuman conditions and the late-term abortion attitudes and practices which have recently come to light in many states. No one — not the President, Planned Parenthood, nor the mainstream media — can say Congress shouldn’t move forward with prompt legislation to protect women and children from further Gosnell-like violence and destruction.”

In the wake of the Gosnell trial, Congressman Blackburn and other leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee launched a nationwide investigation examining how states monitor and regulate abortion clinics.

Gosnell’s trial revealed gruesome insights into the abortion industry and highlighted the reality that abortion involves taking a human life. The graphic accounts that came from the Gosnell trial, in spite of the national broadcast news networks’ failure to effectively report, brought to light the brutality of abortion and the nature of what happens in abortion clinics across the country. Although Gosnell was only tried for the death of four abortion survivors and one woman, he is likely responsible for killing hundreds of babies born alive by using a “snipping” method which he described as his way of “ensuring fetal demise.”

Congressman Blackburn is the Vice-Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a Founding Member of the Women’s Republican Policy Committee.

Thank you so much, finally the possibility of the abortion clinics will be inspected. For your information I live in Albuquerque, NM which is home to Curtis Boyd a late term abortionist. He uses somewhat the same procedures that Gosnell used. The exact details and conditions of Boyd’s clinic is not known because nobody ever inspects the clinics in NM. In NM it is legal to abort a baby up to all nine months, no parental consent laws, no regulations for hospital certification, no health and safety inspections.

These clinics are serious money makers.

Murder is murder until we start respecting human life from conception to natural death we will always have elites who like to play God.Bottom line God gives all life but human is His to give and take as He chooses.

Gosnell’s mistake was to kill the babies outside the womb instead of inside the womb. Inside, legal: outside murder?
What is the difference? Late-term abortionists are all as guilty as Gosnell.

Ariel Castro is being charged for murder because he induced miscarriages by starving and beating his pregnant victims. How do his actions differ from those of Gosnell? It seems the jury agreed with the Ohio prosecutor. Both committed murder. Yet, if a woman at the stage of pregnancy as Gosnell’s or Castro’s victims had willingly gone to a “good” abortion clinic, which uses unspeakable methods to kill the unborn child, everyone should be happy.

I suppose it must make Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, extremely happy that most abortions kill African-American babies. I wonder how many potential Thomas Sowells and Michael Jordans were lost?

I love how pro-abortionists have tried to spin this by saying this is what will happen if abortion is outlawed and women have to get “back alley” abortions. Dr. Gosnell was not doing back alley abortions! He was doing the same thing many other abortionists are doing! After all – if an aborted baby is born alive, that’s a botched abortion! When are we going to realize that ALL abortions are barbaric? It doesn’t make it any nicer for the baby to have its head punctured before it comes out than after! Abortion is murder.
