Biden

AMAC Exclusive By: Daniel Roman

“A historic, epic failure of leadership, of planning and execution.” That is how Congressman Lee Zeldin of New York described the withdrawal from Afghanistan on Monday. Senator Tom Cotton echoed that President Joe Biden appeared “dangerously disconnected from reality,” in a speech Monday as well, while Senators Ben Sasse and Mitt Romney, no friends of former President Trump, said Biden’s pullout showed “weakness and betrayal,” with Romney noting, “The president’s failure to acknowledge his disastrous withdrawal provides no comfort to Americans or our Afghan partners whose lives hang in the balance.”

They are correct. And the Biden administration’s efforts to shift the discussion to one about whether the US should or should not have remained in Afghanistan indefinitely, as Biden attempted to do when he lamely claimed the “buck stops here,” were little more than gaslighting. Romney, hardly a hardliner, expressed the view of many when he took to Twitter to remark “Contrary to [Biden’s] claims, our choice was not between a hasty and ill-prepared retreat or staying forever.”

Biden and Democrats want to portray the situation in Afghanistan as a binary choice between remaining or leaving. Without that binary choice, Biden’s withdrawal becomes indefensible. Even worse, the mistakes are not in the past. They are still ongoing.

The disastrous nature of the withdrawal is an indictment not of the United States, its military, or its system of government, but of those charged with overseeing those things. The Biden administration appears to be unable to ensure a coordinated action in real time between the State Department, Pentagon, and National Security Council, much less engage in any long-term planning. With such abysmal decision-making, it is unclear how better intelligence would have helped, as some Democrats claim it would have. And that is to say nothing of the repeated warnings of Republican Senators and Congressman about the dangers of a precipitous withdraw.

Biden has sought to dodge responsibility. Even as he claimed the “buck stopped with him” on Monday, he tried to change the issue back to one of “policy”. But what happened was never about whether to withdraw from Afghanistan. It was the failure, once that decision was made, to adopt any policy about how to do so. The withdrawal was neither coordinated with the Afghan government forces so as to allow them to resist, or with the Taliban in a way so as to extract maximum concessions for their takeover. Even as Taliban forces were sharing selfies from the Presidential palace, different US officials were issuing contradictory statements. Americans in Kabul were told simultaneously to hunker in place and not come to the airport, and then to head there as quickly as possible.

Worse, the Biden administration still has no coherent strategy for the rest of the withdrawal. Or rather they have two strategies, either of which might work, but which are also mutually in tension with one another, and both are being pursued simultaneously by different elements of the administration. For example, the Treasury Department was running plans to seize Afghanistan’s gold reserves, while the US Central Command was in talks with the Taliban to secure the airport in Doha, all as media reports indicated that more US troops were simultaneously being sent and leaving. Any of these policies may have had merit. Together, they were incoherent and self-defeating. They left Afghans trapped on the runway of Kabul airport to fall to their deaths from aircraft, and as we speak they are sending thousands of American troops into that very same airport where they will very possibly become hostages to the Taliban.

To that end, there appear to be competing policies at Central Command and Washington regarding defending Kabul Airport. The head of Central Command evidently concluded that the Taliban, who may have changed not at all, but have learned much about PR, had a vested interest in expelling all foreigners from Afghanistan and therefore in the US taking as many as possible out. As such, he evidently concluded that the best way to secure the airport was to ask the Taliban to allow the US to maintain control of it for two weeks. This was the agreement reached early on Monday morning in Doha.

Regardless of whether one thinks the Taliban trustworthy, there is reason to believe they could, if they wanted, halt the evacuation. Taliban fighters are currently occupying half of Hamid Karzai airport and have been filmed in the parking lot. They have stinger missiles. If they wished to shoot down the aircraft or hit the runways with mortars, they likely could. The simple fact that they have not indicates they do not wish to.

Nonetheless, within hours, Washington was striking a different tune, with Biden officials announcing that additional US troops were on the way to “secure” the airport, bringing the total US strength to 6,000. Leaving aside that 2,500 US soldiers seemed sufficient to hold off the Taliban in the entire country a few months ago, it is unclear what the intention is to do with these soldiers once they arrive. They could potentially drive the Taliban back, but only at risk of combat which would badly damage the airport, and driving them back from missile and mortar range would require retaking large segments of Kabul. Then those troops would still have to be withdrawn themselves. Without a clear mission, they are merely a provocation.

The US is therefore following two mutually contradictory policies. A policy of negotiation may work or it may not, but it is less likely to work if paired with sending additional US forces and taking the gold. Sending additional forces may work if there is a clear military plan to use them, but if the plan is simply to have them there as a deterrent, they increase the risks of the negotiations breaking down without actually doing anything to secure the airport. Not to mention increasing the potential losses if things go badly.

All of this implies no one is in charge. Which prompts the question: who is? Since the position was created, the office of the National Security Advisor has been charged with coordinating interagency cooperation on matters of foreign policy and national security. At some points the role has transcended that job into a policy position. Henry Kissinger famously used it in such a way, and Zbigniew Brzezinski and John Bolton attempted the same feat with less skill, resulting in creating chaos rather than order. But Jake Sullivan, Biden’s National Security Advisor, seems to aspire to neither. A political hack with extensive Clinton associations, he has no history of any ideas of his own. Which is fine, and perhaps a good thing. The problem is, he also has no history of executive management experience. That now shows. Rather than taking control, calling in Treasury, State, Defense, and stakeholders and demanding everyone explain what they are doing, he seems to have vanished to the talk shows.

Perhaps a strong Secretary of State could step in, but Antony Blinken is about as weak as any Secretary can be. Mike Pompeo and John Kerry were former Senators, as was Hillary Clinton. Colin Powell was a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Condoleezza Rice had been National Security Advisor. Even Rex Tillerson, for all his ineffectiveness in office, had come from Exxon Mobil, where he had been CEO and had at least some organizational experience. Blinken comes off as the sort of person who would be Under Secretary of State for Policy, not the Secretary himself. With no personal political base, he has no power to order around the political appointees who serve under him, much less those in other agencies and the White House that he would need in order to accomplish anything. He too has vanished.

That leaves the White House, where Biden’s belated return showed some action on the part of Chief of Staff Ron Klain. Klain has some experience as Chief of Staff to two Vice Presidents, Al Gore and Joe Biden, but his one executive role, that of heading Al Gore’s recount effort in Florida, saw him outmaneuvered by the Bush forces almost as badly as Biden has now been outmaneuvered by the Taliban. Klain had no coherent strategy other than requesting as many recounts as possible where he thought he would find votes, with the result being that he lost the public battle by giving the impression he was cherry picking jurisdictions, and eventually ran out of time. There are echoes of Gore’s Florida recount strategy in the fragmented approach to Afghanistan, where each short-term tactical move is hailed as genius with no consideration of whether it advances any sort of wider strategic objective.

Biden is correct that the buck stops with him. Part of being an effective leader is installing effective people in positions of importance. Biden’s team has thus far shown no management or coordination skills, much to the horror of the Afghan people and the rest of the free world. For someone who ran on “competence” and putting “adults” in charge, his administration has been remarkably haphazard and juvenile.

The Biden administration’s handling of the tragedy in Afghanistan reminds me of the metaphor describing fish rotting from the head. Were there no competent leaders anywhere in Biden’s White House, his cabinets, or hiding out in some Washington Starbucks who were capable of doing something to forestall the fear and mayhem descending on that poor country today? Answer: no. Biden was in control, and he selected really awful players for cabinet positions. He needs to have his head examined, like they did to President Trump.

There is no aspect of this unplanned evacuation that hasn’t touched everyone in or connected with Afghanistan. The glimmer of hope that people felt when they finally stepped into the 21st century, with our help and that of our allies, has now been extinguished because of this president’s feckless disregard for the plight of an entire population to whom we had made grand promises. And if Biden can do it to them, he’ll do it to you, and me, and the rest of this country. We’re only 8 months into his administration, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming up over the next 40.

This article is essentially a repeat of an earlier one from yesterday in many aspects. So my original comment to that article also applies here. Here it is:

The inconvenient fact for the Democrats, the media and the Never Trumpers is that for President Trump’s entire term in office, we did not enter any new wars nor were we attacked. He actually eliminated ISIS, another creation of the incompetence of the Obama / Biden bungled exit from Iraq, and established four separate peace and economic deals in the Middle East. All in between being constantly attacked by the cabal that resented him for messing up their timetable to gut America. Our enemies universally feared us, because they all knew the kind of retaliation that President Trump would unleash on them and our allies knew we would have their backs. Even if some of them wouldn’t have ours.

I listened tonight to an aid to former President Trump outline some of the specifics of Trump’s plan for exiting Afghanistan. It bears no resemblance to the fiasco that Biden carried out. Which I didn’t find surprising. Like everything else Biden has done since taking office, he chucked whatever President Trump had planned or implemented and substituted “the Biden solution” (do the opposite of what Trump would do) with predictable, disastrous results. Now we have American State Department officials begging Taliban thugs to allow between 5,000 and 10,000 Americans still in Afghanistan to be allowed to get to the airport, so they can be air-lifted out. All while a Biden administration official today admitted that Americans weren’t being given priority one status for evacuation even once they reach the airport. So that is also being mucked up as well. Biden’s official this afternoon wouldn’t even commit to being able to ensure all Americans will be safely evacuated by the deadline of August 31st Biden had originally set. So is the administration just going to write-off anyone unable to reach the airport by the date? I wouldn’t put it past the Biden administration after today’s WH press briefing.

The Taliban are already going door to door looking for anyone who helped America and dragging them off. So one has to wonder what happens when they get their hands on American citizens. Anyone thinking a potential redux of the Iranian hostage crisis except this time in Afghanistan, with Biden playing the feckless Jimmy Carter role?

Obviously the American troops Biden is sending back in can’t get to the Americans that are outside of the airport itself, because the Taliban is restricting their presence to the airport. We have no alternative base of operations in country, because Biden abandoned both our fully stocked military air bases in the middle of the night. Way to go Joe! Nothing like bugging out all military forces BEFORE you ensure all American civilians are already safe and secure.
With the Taliban now armed with nearly a billion dollars (latest estimate from the defense dept. this afternoon) worth of arms, munitions, vehicles, tanks and helicopters (which thankfully most of their illiterate fighters can’t fly), our troops would be slaughtered, if they tried to go into Kabul city itself in search of Americans.

Finally, Biden has sent a clear and concise message to all our enemies around the world: Now is the time to strike. America is headed by a inept fool and an administration that is equally deficient in being able to handle much of anything. If you liked how easy it used to be to push Obama and his people around on the foreign policy stage, you’re going to love Joe Biden. He makes Obama almost seem semi-competent. Meanwhile all our allies realize they are on their own. The one bright spot from all of this utter incompetence on the part of the Biden administration is that many of our allies, that refused to fund their own defense needs for decades, because they thought the United States would always be there to bail them out, have to all be frantically trying to build up their own armed forces now.

The only addition I would add to my original post is that if any reporter or person out there is harboring hope that Biden will either learn from his mistakes or his administration, populated almost exclusively with incompetent Obama era retreads that are running the show, are going to start making profound changes to reverse what has been demonstrated for the last 8 months, then you are both a fool and an idiot.

Biden NEVER had good judgement in matters related to foreign affairs or much of anything else. So after nearly 50 years in public office, this is about the best you’re going to get from him. As for the rest of his administration, none of them have ever demonstrated competency or good judgement. Look at their backgrounds and records instead of watching game shows or hoping someone will magically save us from our own laziness and apathy. They were all selected because they shared one common background. They are either socialists or globalists, who fundamentally have dedicated their lives to ripping this country down by any means at their disposal.

If the American people wanted an actual competent administration, that was able to execute well on the domestic and world stage, they had that in the prior administration. The problem is too many people couldn’t get past the fact that unlike most past recent Presidents (Reagan being the only exception and was also equally hated by the Washington establishment of both parties and the media), Trump wasn’t a carbon copy of the what the media has indoctrinated you to want in an actual leader. Well guess what, in the real world 99.99 percent of your so-called career politicians wouldn’t last 90 days in any sort of private sector leadership job. You’ve been conditioned to want a typical career politician, with no real experience in anything but reciting speeches, maintaining the status quo of Washington, D.C. and accomplishing little of positive value while in office, but being blessed by the media as having the right stuff. Well you got the career politician you wanted, who supposedly possessed “competence” and would be the “adult” (deferring to whatever the swamp wanted while in office) in the room as the media kept referring to Biden all through the campaign.

Trump wasn’t perfect by any means, but no one is and in comparison to Biden and most of the other empty suits that occupy Washington, he was exactly what this country needed. Unfortunately, we’re stuck with Biden for at least another 3 plus years, so if you’re upset with how things are going after only 8 months of his administration, you’re really NOT going to enjoy the rest of his term in office.

The US needed to get out of Afghanistan after 20-years is supported by the majority of Americans. But, the big question at this time is: WHY DID WE TELL TALIBAN A DATE WE WOULD LEAVE & WHY DID NOT WE HAVE A WITHDRAWAL PLAN THAT STARTED A FEW MONTHS AGO IN ORDERLY FASHION”. And I do not think this timing is good this close to 20th ann of 9/11.

Where is the moral obligation of this O’Biden administration? Why did he unilaterally make the decision to just exit the country without a solid plan? Why did he not listen to the military experts that this strategy would not work? If he truly takes responsibility for this action, he should then resign. This is an absolute tragedy….we left a void where there is no coming back for many innocent people. This makes the exit from Vietnam look like a walk in the park. What will our allies think of our foreign policy now? The longer this Marxist Democrat with a failing mindset stays in office, the more horror stories will surface. With a little more thought and planning, none of the debacle would have happened.

Okay, I’m just going to say it.
I know Trump got a lot done in the 4 yrs he was in office. Probably more than any other president in my lifetime but as far as personality goes, he’s not my favorite.
He’s constantly bragging about his accomplishments.
I only voted for him because he’s pro life and because I knew as a business man rather than a politician, he would get things done!
Also, there was no other option.
I’ll probably ruffle some feathers as my pastor would say but I’m hoping and praying that another Christian conservative runs for president in 2024 and that former president Trump will give them his full endorsement.
I am very disappointed in some of our republican legislators especially the ones who gave into the democrats ridiculous 3.5 trillion spending bill which will most likely end up being 5 trillion.
They’ll still be able to afford their groceries and medications but what about the rest of us?
I am NOT Republican or Democrat. I am simply a Christian Conservative and will only support the candidates I believe are pro life .
I will never become a member of any one political party. No matter how many times they send emails or membership offers in the US mail.

Biden has no coherent plan because he is completely incoherent himself. He was one of the architects of the “Saigon moment” in 1975 and has repeated himself again now only worse. Remember, this same guy also opposed the raid that got Bin Laden. We’re seeing Gen. Milley, Chair of the Joint Chiefs, saying they had no clue the Afghan army would collapse when the truth is those warnings had existed for a long time making Milley a liar more concerned with wokeness than defending our country. The whole stinking lot of them need fired if this nation can be saved, and its looking like that may not be possible.

A comprehensive and detailed article about the latest Joe Biden foul up. While most “journalists”
gloss over, or simply decline to address Biden’s lack of leadership, articles such as this one still dance around the mental condition of the creature that occupies the Oval Office. Joe Biden has been displaying the behavior of a person suffering from the late stages of dementia. To expect ANY coherence about ANYTHING from Joe Biden is an exercise in denial.

What will it take to compel the Congress critters to invoke the 25th Amendment and declare Biden to be unfit to continue the present charade? Worse, Kamala Harris is next in line to succeed Biden. Her only guide in leadership are the ideals of Karl Marx. She is an out and out socialist.

Unless the majority of the American people vote for Republican Senators and Representatives next year we, as a nation, will continue to spiral down into the common misery of full blown socialism. Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed by our current political situation? If you don’t speak up for your rights, and just as importantly, vote in the upcoming midterms, you will be part of the problem.

If you think things can’t get any worse, think again. Just read up on the history of any country that tried to experiment with socialism. Things can, and will get worse, if we ignore what the Democrats and RINOs are doing.
