What I am about to write below may be a bitter pill to swallow but I think it is necessary to understand the situation as it is rather than as we want it to be. I hope you will read the post in its entirety and not rush in response.
Biden is not a good President but he has support from the Democrats and many Independents still. He won the 2020 election because he was not Trump and Trump made a lot of mistakes during his one term presidency. This is the reality like it or not. I don’t necessarily like it but the Right has itself to blame to a large degree. Trump and the Republicans needed to be good, humble, and compassionate leaders for all Americans. Otherwise, the Right is destined to lose as was evident in 2020. Certainly, Republicans can make some gains this year because of the mistakes the Democrats made but you cannot rely only on that. That is not a strategy. The Right needs to have a strategic vision for the country for many years to come. This is especially important given the fact that the Media is still in the Left’s pocket.
So the first step towards sanity is to not support Trump in a bid to run in 2024. Trump is an impulsive man and showed himself to be a bad leader many times during his Presidency and especially after losing the election. Also, as President Biden noted, Trump is a defeated former President. That is already a part of his legacy – whether he conceded or not or whether we like it or not. The fact is, Biden is the President and Trump is not. It will be better for the Republicans if Trump remains in the shadows. I think it’s quite ok if Trump helps the Republican party from the shadows by promoting his favorite Candidates into the House and the Senate but it’s best if he stays out.
For the 2024 election cycle we need somebody who is somewhat like Trump but fundamentally a lot more rational a leader. I think Ron DeSantis is one such candidate. A calm, rational, charismatic, and patriotic man. A man who will promote many of the good policies but without much noise and controversy. DeSantis has humility, experience, education, and good communication skills that Trump never had and never will.
Lastly, on a personal note. I am a right-leaning independent and I am rooting for the Republicans to win. I voted Red across the board in 2020. In some ways, I am ashamed that I voted for Trump but it is what it is. I certainly will not vote for him in 2024. Moreover, I think it is highly likely that I will vote for the Democrat nominee if Trump is on the ballot in 2024. And I live in a swing state. I know that Trump is very popular among registered Republicans to an almost cult like devotion but I hope that the Republicans are smart enough to see beyond Trump if they want to win. This is my stance. Whether you agree with me or not, I wish you all well. Good night.
