AMAC Action has chosen to postpone the annual advocacy National Conference in April in Orlando. The new date is to be determined, but the conference will still be held at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort.
We chose to postpone our event for a few reasons. We were beginning to experience cancellations from some attendees due to concerns over the Coronavirus and had to balance our concern for the health of AMAC members and guests with the financial implications of hosting an event with a potentially declining attendance. We also wanted to avoid a possible quarantine situation for AMAC Action advocates which would negatively impact our ability to advance AMAC’s mission. To that end, we believe the prudent action was to postpone our conference.
This does not mean that we are subscribing to the hysteria surrounding the Coronavirus that’s being promoted by the national media. Indeed, we believe quite the contrary. We recognize that, despite the media’s alarmist efforts to politicize the current situation, economic indicators for the American economy remain strong and include low unemployment, record-setting job growth, low inflation and now, low fuel prices.
When we spoke personally with AMAC Action National Conference attendees, their feedback validated our decision. There was no panic among them and they were grateful for our concern for their well-being. We are confident we made the right decision and look forward to a wonderful event this Fall.
