AMAC Exclusive – By Andrew Abbott

With less than a month to go until Republicans officially take control of the House of Representatives, the GOP is gearing up for a series of investigations to finally provide some answers – and hopefully some accountability – regarding the slew of devastating failures by the Biden administration and congressional Democrats over the past two years. As Axios first reported last week, at the top of that list will likely be Biden’s calamitous evacuation from Afghanistan that left 13 American service members dead and billions of dollars of sophisticated military equipment in the hands of Taliban fighters.
Ever since President Joe Biden audaciously called the U.S. exit from Afghanistan an “extraordinary success” last August, Republicans have been eager to force top Biden officials to answer some tough questions about the obvious failures at the highest levels of military leadership and the national security establishment. With the help of a compliant media, Biden has been largely successful at shirking responsibility for what is objectively one of the most shameful, tragic, and unnecessary U.S. foreign policy disasters in the country’s history. But with a Republican House majority, those responsible for this colossal failure may finally be forced to face accountability for their actions.
According to the Axios report, an internal memo from Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, alleges illegal obstruction by Biden administration officials with regards to records and document requests related to the evacuation. Comer specifically cites “over 70 instances in which State, USAID, or Treasury declined, stalled, or refused to provide information, assistance, or interviews.” The stonewalling has raised fresh suspicions that high-ranking Biden officials are attempting a cover-up of their own failures, and has renewed GOP determination to conduct hearings when the next Congress convenes in January.
The first and most critical question Republicans want answered is why the Biden administration was so insistent on an accelerated withdrawal schedule. Though Biden has denied speculation that he rushed arrangements in order to complete the withdrawal by the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks for symbolic reasons, multiple high-ranking military officials have testified that they advised Biden against the accelerated timeline. Thus far, the Biden administration has provided no plausible alternative explanation for why they contradicted advice from military leaders.
Republicans will also likely press for answers on why Biden abandoned the terms of the deal reached with the Taliban by the Trump administration in February of 2020 known as the Doha Agreement, which the media largely ignored. According to the terms of the deal, the U.S. agreed to withdraw American troops as long as the Taliban upheld seven conditions – chief among them a promise to do no harm to U.S. soldiers and an assurance that Afghanistan would no longer be a haven for terrorists.
Soon after Biden took office, the Taliban began violating all of those seven conditions – culminating in the suicide attack that killed 13 American service members. But instead of “hitting them harder than they’ve ever been hit before,” as Trump famously promised to do if any Americans were harmed in the withdrawal, Biden’s “response” was a drone strike that killed 10 civilians and 7 children, but no terrorists. If a Republican president had overseen this tragedy, it’s likely the media would have called for full transparency and congressional inquiries. Instead, the story quietly faded away within days of the final withdrawal.
Biden officials and top military brass have also failed to answer for why they made the fateful decision to vacate Bagram Air Base with thousands of Americans and American visa holders still in the country. Bagram was the first and eventually the largest airfield secured by U.S. forces following the September 11th attacks. The base’s proximity to Kabul made it incredibly valuable in supporting the Afghan government and ensuring the safety of American citizens abroad. On July 1st the Pentagon abandoned the base in the middle of the night without alerting Afghan forces. Before the Afghan military could secure the field, it was heavily looted, with hardened terrorists sprung out of its jail and much of its supplies going to the Taliban.
In the chaotic retreat which followed, billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment, including everything from attack helicopters to night vision goggles, fell into Taliban hands. Most unsettlingly, the U.S. also left behind military biometric devices that could aid in the identification of Afghans who assisted coalition forces – a virtual death sentence for many. No one in the Biden administration has yet been held accountable for this logistical disaster.
Perhaps most egregiously of all, the Biden administration also left behind an estimated 9,000 Americans, in addition to tens of thousands of U.S. allies and Afghan interpreters. Biden repeatedly promised that American forces would not leave until every American was safely out of the country. Yet there are still dozens of Americans unaccounted for.
Beyond simply pushing for long-overdue accountability on the Afghanistan disaster, getting to the bottom of the military and bureaucratic failures behind the evacuation is also a matter of crucial national security importance moving forward. In the annual “Pentagon Report on Chinese Military Development” released last month, military leaders revealed that China has aggressively highlighted the Afghanistan withdrawal as evidence that the United States is an “unreliable partner” and a “declining power.” This framing has been tremendously influential in eroding the confidence that key allies like Taiwan and even Japan have in the United States.
House Republicans can’t undo the Afghanistan debacle. But with well-organized hearings and the right lines of questioning, they can perhaps help prevent a similar fiasco in the future, and ensure that the American people know exactly how badly their leadership failed them.

I’m afraid this will end up like so many well meaning investigations and interrogatories with no real consequence. Just the other day, my wife was watching an old YouTube video showing Trey Gowdy grilling Peter Strzok. It was exhilarating to be sure, and Gowdy nailed him pretty good. But at the end of the day, Strzok walked out with that stupid smirk on his face with no consequence.
On top of that, the generals will somehow spin the whole thing and “double-down”. I’m afraid I have lost faith. And who will be the audience? Certainly not the 30 and under crowd who helped elect Fetterman and Warnock. No one’s mind will be changed.
The Fed Govt is nothing anymore but a Merry -go-round center of an out-of-control circus. there is absolutely no virtue or ethic in Washington any longer.
I disagree. The withdrawal from Afganistan should have been done in a much more responsible manner and it wasn’t. But the key point was to get our troops out of a 20 year war to defend a nation whose men did not want to defend. And our military kept selling us a line of BS for the 20 year period that the Afgans were “just about to get it” Many in our military need to be jailed which is the problem Until we jail DC criminals all of this is a bunch of mouth. Jail or forget it. The lesson for the Afgans is that if you are not willing to defend yourselves why expect the US to do it ?
No one talks about that. All we hear is how the Afgans feel that we cheated them. What a crock.
Sorry, overall, nothing will be accomplished except the continued waste of taxpayer money since the current powers in charge will see that nothing is done.
Can anyone imagine the end of WWII had it been in the hands of the same people starting with Bush excepting Trump?
Wir würden jetzt alle Deutsch sprechen!
Bush was great. Trump was really awful.
Biden should be impeached for high treason. He, with malice and no doubt urging, armed the enemies inAfghanistan. He deliberately left AMERICAN CITIZENS and their children in this hostile nation. From conservative articles I’ve read, citizens are still there…IF they’re still alive! He has plunged this nation into the worst inflation in over 40 years, deliberately and with malice shut down our oil production, used Air Force one to fly around the world begging for oil (not especially fuel efficient!), continued to deliberately and will malice, let known drug dealers, repeat violent offenders, illegals from over 21 different nations with NO health or background checks, into this country, the lefties in control of New York City are “giving” money to illegals, and allowing them to VOTE in local elections….of course they’ll vote for the hands that feed them off our backs, transporting them in the middle of the night to different and unsuspecting cities…bleeding from the eyes to disarm “We The law abiding People” while continuing the decades long destruction by the left, of what’s left of a laughable “justice system.” He is bought and paid for, many including myself are pretty sure that a previous “president” who opined “I’m going to fundamentally change America” is pulling his strings.
George Bush Sr. during his presidential acceptance speech said “We must usher in the “new world order”. This is not and hasn’t been for a very long time a “government of the people, by the people and for the people”. Welcome to “the new world order.”
Like the punishment doled out to the imbeciles that let 13 brave Americans perish protecting our embassy?? Then some “Americans ” couldn’t even testify because they had a headache!! And with half the Republicans that don’t have a backbone Good Luck with that .
We should have never left. It’s on Biden but it’s on Trump also.
With so many horrific decisions having been made by the Biden puppet administration, it must be difficult to prioritize which ones need to be addressed first.
The foxes(Obama/Biden) are in the WhiteHouse. Destroy America and the world in every area of life!!!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if, instead of playing a blame game, we just came up with a way to handle these matters in a more respectful way. After all, it was the Republicans who arranged the Vietnam exit in such an outrageous, embarrassing manner. It’s not political – it does deserve to be looked at and a better way of handling these situations explored.
No, you’re mistaken. The dems took the house in 74 and proceeded to renege on our promise to resupply the army of vietnam. The house appropriates funds. The nva knew this of course and mounted their final offensive. Nixons policy of vietnamization meant their boys fight with our arms. Ford was indeed president when saigon fell but it was the radical class of 74 that paved the way. This abject humiliation stained our military for years after. Recruiting was difficult and it took until the reagan era for morale to return. Sound familiar? The afghan affair was executed in such a way that there is no other explanation than that our leaders in the demon party wished to diminish our country, to humiliate it and reduce its prestige on the world stage.
That’s all the political extremes do these days is blame. Reagan was friends with the democrats. Things were so much better back then.
The Afghanistan withdrawal was a disaster, however, what is the point of investigating this debacle except to apply lessons learned so that it will never happen again. Republicans: Don’t be drawn into past dramas – focus on inflation, the economy, drilling/mining to keep us energy independent, and maintaining a strong military.
If those responsible for such a disaster, one that cost lives as well as a massive amount of money, are not held accountable, there will be no reason for others to not be accountable for doing even worse things in the future.
With the team of Rinos, including both RNC speakers, over at the good old boys club [RNC], at best they’ll make an attempt to correct things, but as usual, fumble the ball and life will go on as usual with the progressive/socialists calling the shots. We need Trump, or at least a Trump-like clone to ever manage to recover.
RINOs and DINOs are far better than extremists on both sides.
Biden’s incompetent, traitorous, and feckless method of exiting Afghanistan is a clear indication of how irresponsible and unfit our present, empty suit commander in chief is for office. He has absolutely no business being in his position of power. He made an oath to protect our country, and he has recklessly, significantly weakened our country militarily, economically, and socially. Disaster upon disaster has been testing the very survival of our Constitutional Republic. The Republicans should do their very best to investigate Biden and his entire administration. I still find it hard to believe that Biden is going to be able to keep on destroying this still great nation for another 2 years. He is on the road to completely obliterating our past, present, and future.
Remember this axiomatic truth: everything the demon party does weakens the country. They erode time honored institutions at the same time they do all in their power to pervert and destroy individuals. The party of fentanyl insists on open borders in spite of the od deaths. Why? Because the larger goal is to flood this country with indigents then hand them the vote. If and when gop committees ask questions of the demon party it will be for show only. What happened in afganistan mirrors what the demon party did in the 70s after taking power in the wake of watergate. They cut all funding to arvn in order to guarantee the north victory. In so doing they made all our sacrifce of blood and treasure there meaningless. This severely weakened the country. The demons salivated.
No objection to anything you’ve said. Democrats have always viewed the existence of the United States, as originally founded, as a major obsticle to their desired form of governance for the world writ large. Which is essentially Marxist in nature, when you strip away all the subterfuge tossed out there to fool the less informed public. Whether that be referred to as socialism or communism, that is really irrelevant discussion, when you look at the ultimate goal desired.
With at least 2 more years of the Biden administration to look forward to, and no real guarantee of any change come 2024 given our new method of voting, the future will require people to be highly adaptive to the many, many changes likely to come our way. It is no longer a question of “if”, but rather a question of “when” we reach the so-called socialist Utopia the Democrats dream of creating here.
Indeed. To me the only question after that is whether we transition to the scandinavian model or that of venezuela. However, very few realize that the reason those countries muddle thru is that they dont have millions of citizens mired in generational welfare driven poverty. Yes they have wonderful perks but most people work in some capacity. Here we have all the makings of venezuela; millions ready to be mobilized by envy to demand retribution for their ‘bad luck’ in life. We’ll soon see. My money is on venezuela after a hard financial crash and demands for ‘contributions’ from those who’ve won life’s lottery. Its not for nothing that warren floated wealth taxes.
Of the two socialist options you mentioned, I would have to say Venezuela as well. I’ve been to several countries that esstentially have the same model as Scandinavia and they ALL require everyone receiving government assistance to work unless one is completely disabled. That is reviewed and recertified every 12 months by an independent doctor from the government. That isn’t what the Democrats here are obviously shooting for. Everything from the idea of government supplied “universal basic income” to an also endless array of government handouts, all with no longer any requirement to actually do any sort of work, have conditioned their voter base to expect everything for nothing. All with “somebody else” picking up the tab. So the Scandivanian form would be soundly rejected by the Democrat voter base immediately. As would the idea of actually having to pay high taxes to afford all this government largess. I don’t care where you go in Europe, everyone pays taxes on ALL sources of income.
So that leaves us with favored version of socialism adopted throughout all of South America at this point. The promised land of being showered with endless government handouts and benefits, that are all paid for by stealing or should I say confiscating or lets be honest the government just taxing everything and anyone that generates any sort of income or profitability into the ground. The system works for maybe 2 or 3 years before everything has been nationalized, bankrupted and looted out of existence. Then the real fun starts. Everyone, but the ruling elite of course, have been reduced to equality of universal poverty and misery. Everyone is equally hungry, scrounging for food in garbage dumps or, like in Venezuela even eating grass and tree bark, to try and survive another day. Crime is of course rampant, as society deteriorates to its most primitive form. Hospitals have no supplies of anything. Inflation will be triple digits on an annual basis, but most people won’t care as they neither have any money or access to anything to anything to buy. That’s the socialist Utopia the Democrats will deliver the stupid people foolish enough to believe their so-called promises of social and economic justice.
You can bet those “wealth” taxes will not be paid by the likes of soros, gates, kennedy clan, rockefeller clan or any other truly rich people since they most of them are shilling for totalitarian governance that they have some control over.
It would be enlightening to know how many Americans are STILL trapped in Afghanistan! I know they have to lie low but just how many are still trapped?
The ONLY success that the Jacka** Joe Biden’s administration has is in the DESTRUCTION OF THE UNITED STATES in ALL facets of American history/economy/citizenship/reputation, you name it! HE has GUARANTEED himself as the WORST PRESIDENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY!
Yes, the worst, right in front of his daddy, the 2nd worst, B.O.B.
You don’t know what you are taking about.
Will these investigation lead to anything? I have my doubts.
Just a blah blah blah
All they can do is expose the failures. Without the executive branch, they can’t actually “do” anything!
They all are sitting on the same branch be it this committee or that commission ,it’s not being cut
My prediction – MSM will spin everything the new congress investigates so that the new congress will be the ones to be held accountable for everything Brandon, Pelosi and Schummer has done the last few years, and the new congress leadership will let them do it without a fight!
If what you’re saying is the MSM will use the narrative of “the evil Republicans are doing all these investigations to obstruct all the good works the Biden administration is trying to deliver for the people”, then yes that is the likely game plan for the next 2 years. The MSM will drum this message in the heads of the uninformed public non-stop on every network. GOP leadership, in the form of both McConnell and McCarthy with an occasional assist from the RNC, will offer a half-hearted, watered-down and nearly incoherent response once or twice. Then they will simply sit there and let the MSM and the Democrats define the narrative unobstructed until 2024 rolls around. Just like GOP leadership essentially has done from 2021 through all of 2022.
If people wanted real fighters in the GOP congressional leadership slots for the House and Senate, then they should have put up a lot more of a stink when there was an immediate rush after the midterms for both the House and Senate Republicans to quickly rush to re-elect these two “winners”.
Answer me something.
Why is the new Republican house so interested in finding out answers to things that they have no intention of bringing the folks responsible to task? I.E. inflation, crime, border security, and the list goes on. They already know who is responsible and the buck stops with him, Biden. Biden may be a bumbling idiot, but in the end he is the one who must take responsibility for actions of those who work for him.
Are these committees going to impeach Biden and charge him criminally for what he and his ilk have done? I would wager not. If they do, then what? We get Harris for a President? She, potentially, could be a worse leader than Biden. At least Biden is being willingly led around by the nose. Will Harris allow that? Probably not.
Personally, I believe that all this posturing by the leaders of the incoming conservatives is just that posturing.
If the conservatives wish to continue to be in control of the house and potentially in control of the white house and senate in 2024, then they had better look to finding answers to what the voting folks are concerned about and fix those things. They should not waste time with investigations that will go no where.
The house is, or will be, controlled by conservatives in less than a month. They will be in control of the purse strings. Those purse strings are the most powerful hammer in their tool box. They need to grow a spine, and defund those departments that do nothing to further the welfare of the individual or enhance our security.
This country is going to hell in a hand basket! The conservatives, along with the liberals, are leading the parade.
You are nor incorrect in anything you have written. For the most part, a lot of these investigations will yield nothing of substance in terms of forcing any real change. The DOJ and FBI certainly won’t charge anyone criminally on the Democrat side, so most of these investigations are largely just choreographed dog and pony shows. I bet the MSM won’t even cover 90 percent of them, so the public won’t have any clue anything is even being discussed.
Both McConnell and McCarthy have taken impeachment of Biden off the table, because they don’t want to be perceived as “looking for payback”. They want a “return to normal order”, which in Washington speak is a return to business as usual. They’ve both said as much in the last year a few times.
The one big tool they have is indeed the power of the purse. To do strategic defunding of federal departments and agencies in order to force the Executive Branch to make some needed changes. However, both McCarthy and McConnell have also said they won’t go that route. So the Republicans have essentially disarmed themselves before the fight even begins. Both GOP leaders are concerned with being viewed as “not nice” by either Democrats or Democrat leaning Independents ahead of the next election cycle. So with no means to effect change, because they have unilaterally disarmed themselves, all the GOP House can do is these useless dog and pony shows.
THAT is BEFORE spending TRILLIONS OF OUR MONEY! LOL!
