ABC, NBC Ignore More Electors Defecting From Clinton Than Trump

from – Newsbusters.org – by Kristine Marsh

With calls to dismantle the electoral college, while simultaneously clinging to it as their last vestige of hope, liberals across the country hoped to use the system they hated to overturn the election in Hillary Clinton’s favor Monday.  Not only did that not happen, more “faithless electors” actually changed their votes away from Clinton. Yet you might’ve missed that if you watched the morning news Tuesday, because only one of the networks made the briefest mention of it.

Leading up to Monday’s confirmation by the electoral college, all three networks hyped protesters’ last desperate attempt to convince “faithless electors” to change their votes in support of Hillary. But Tuesday’s results revealed that not only did the protester’s efforts fail, but they did their cause more harm than good: more electors defected from Clinton than they did from Trump by a count of eight to two. But CBS was the only network to cover this fact on the morning programs.

CBS’ Major Garrett opened his report stating matter-of-factly that Donald Trump “[s]uffered fewer defections than Hillary Clinton.” This one line was the only acknowledgement of that fact from all three networks.

Over on ABC, correspondent Cecilia Vega oddly noted that protesters’ “one last attempt to get electors to change their votes” actually worked, while trying to make it appear as if more electors somehow tried to stop Trump over Clinton:

VEGA: One last attempt to get electors to change their votes and a handful did.Among them, three in Washington who were supposed to vote for Hillary Clinton. Instead voting for Republican Colin Powell hoping to block Trump’s victory. In Texas, two Trump defectors instead voting for John Kasich and Ron Paul.

Only ABC could paint three electors switching their votes away from Hillary Clinton as a hopeful attempt to “block Trump’s victory.”

NBC’s Kristen Welker on Today also ignored Clinton’s loss, only noting that, electoral college voters “essentially gave Mr. Trump the 270 votes need today win, despite protesters trying to stop it.”

All three networks instead played up Bill Clinton blaming Trump’s “angry white voters,” the FBI and the Russian hacking as reasons as to why his wife did not win the election.

the popular vote

I have booked marked the election night replays for the major networks. It is very entertaining to watch the reaction by those who already had Hillary in the White House see the votes for Trump come piling in. It the best “Reality” TV ever! ABC didn’t aknowledge the results until Trump was almost finished with his acceptance speech. They were in total denial to the end. I watch alternative news now because the establishment news are just a bunch of sycophants ( or is that sicko or psycho ) to the left.

I still fear that we will lose our country to a Socialist Democrat dictatorship if we don’t get a handle on all the left wing news organizations and teachers that continue to spew their anti-American propaganda that poisons our children’s minds and the minds of the less informed. It will not be easy but over the next four years we need to do everything we can to vociferously challenge any and all left wing attacks. We need to get behind some new laws with stiff penalties to rein in agenda driven false news. If we all band together and loudly and ceaselessly deny the left a platform for spreading their cancer, maybe, just maybe, we can prevail and restore the values and ideals that truly did make America the greatest country on earth.

All I can add is something needs to be done to reign in the majority of news networks/media/organizations which have long gone liberally rouge. I think most will agree they spent too much time reporting on negative “sidebar” stories against our President-Elect during this past election cycle rather than actually reporting on where the candidates really stood on key issues. Quite frankly, I am sick of the national news media & usually turn my TV to something more pleasant after the local news goes off the air before the national news is broadcast. I encourage more to do the same.

My problem is that even the local network news here in mid Michigan is heavily biased for the socialist and very critical of our Republican legislature and Govenor.

What do real legal American expect from the liberal media! The truth!!!! I lump them all under one news outlet “Pravda”. Full of untruths, lies, fake news, distortion of facts, and other sundry mis-direction. They only frame stories to fit their agenda. I truly believe after 60 years of reading, listening to and reading liberal media they do not support the true spirit of America.

You gotta love the irony of it all with the elrctoral votes.
With the media, no surprise there.

Many of the defectors voted for Sanders, from what I heard.

A funny thing happened here and it’s really worth a few loud guffaws.

Jimmy Carter’s Common Core Socialist Indoctrination for the most part utterly failed to teach Liberals that the EC even existed and why it was put into the Constitution in the first place. For decades now the Democrats have been loading the big cities with captive voters dependent upon government welfare for survival, “immigrants” and “refugees”.

Along came the Muslim/Communist Barack Obama who brought in millions more illegal “immigrants” and “refugees” then in am IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE told them to go out and vote. It’s been estimated that at least 3 MILLION of these ineligible “voters” did so – for his presumed successor Hillary Clinton.

Then, to the horror of Liberals, up popped that vastly ignored Electoral College which negated the Big City Captive/Illegal vote and sent Hillary Clinton down in ruins!

Now that nasty old Constitution which was written the way it was to prevent just such a Big City take-over of the entire country is being vilified as the cause of Clinton and Obama’s downfall. And those poor, poor, IGNORANT, whining cry-baby snowflakes are wailing that it’s the fault of that nasty old Constitution that their ILLEGAL votes were negated.

Doesn’t it just make you all want to go to their safe spaces and console them? Take a big box of tissue paper, a crying towel, security blanket and binkie. They’ll need it all.

Tom, you are so right on….. as to noting that they tried to stack the big cities….. but I think that they caught on to the problem, but a little too late. That problem is precisely why the Obama administration has been trying to send the refugees now to smaller country towns- more rural area… thus you see the Mayor of a smallish NH town complaining there are so many there already they don’t have room for the children in the schools. I saw her begging on TV about 1 month ago, please don’t send any more! The only way to combat this illegal voting problem is to require everywhere that citizens eligible to vote re-register in their locale before the next election, showing valid birth ID ( unfortunately, this is not a drivers license as those are granted to anyone who asks it seems) , and bring generally accepted ( such as a drivers license) ID each time they vote. Surely voting is a more precious duty and right than buying beer in the local supermarket, where I have to show ID each and every time, though almost completely gray! Such a precious duty requires care and effort such as REGISTERING.

Yes, they are starting to stock smaller towns and even create enclaves for them all at OUR expense. But the biggest issue there in the past election was that Barack Obama – a sitting US president – openly and illegally told them to go vote!

There is NO provision in the US Constitution for non-citizens to vote under any circumstances yet the Media and the GOP were dead silent about it! If our own “journalists” and our own “opposition” politicians let something as blatantly CRIMINAL as that slide by then we are in bigger trouble than we think we are.

Of course, yes, demand proper ID but be sure it’s a valid voter ID card not a DL. That’s why the State of California among others is passing them out – they are accepted falsely as proof of citizenship. This has to stop and it will take the unified government working correctly to do it.

My solution? GET ‘EM ALL OUT AND KEEP ‘EM ALL OUT. In the meantime do as MEXICO does – require a certified citizens only Voter ID Card to vote! Yes, those darn racist Mexicans, eh?

The Electoral College was created for a very sound reason by some very wise men. There is no valid reason to abolish it. However, I would like to see one change. I think electors should be bound by law to vote for the person they were selected to vote for by the majority
their state at least on an initial ballot. Any elector who does not cast for the person who won the majority in their state is effectively voting to disenfranchise every majority voter in that state , and that is worse than being “unfaithful”, it is despicable. Besides, it would take a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College which would likely be as big or bigger mistake than the 17th Amendment has been.

That would enshrine “winner take all” allocation of electors, and even now not all States do that. The fact is many States do require by law the elector be faithful, but in most cases there is just a fine (or less) for breaking that law. At least one State though will nullify the elector and select a replacement if they vote out of line.

The problem though is with winner take all, take NY or CA, in those and other States all non-Democratic voters are essentially disenfranchised, their votes simply do not count (same goes for non-Republican voters in other States). It leads to lower voter turnout especially among non-allied voters (why bother?) and that just helps them solidify one or the other party take their control over the State gov’t. You do know that States aren’t even required to allocate electors based on the vote? Back in the beginning, many States had their State legislators do it, presuming that the legislature represented the will of the people of the State.

With winner take all, neither candidate has a need or reason to even visit many States, often just concentrating on campaigning in a select few. The people in the locked-in States don’t get to hear the opposition message or see the opposition candidate, they only hear the bad things about them. So when the opposition candidate wins the people in that State are even more distraught. This hardly makes the President representative of all the people — the one office that could and should be so.

I do not want popular election, that’s a really bad idea, I like the EC, but I don’t like winner take all. I’d prefer a hybrid district system like 2 States have. Each State has 1 elector per congressional district and 2 for their Senators. I’d like to see electors selected the same way. 2 electors would be selected for the State-wide winner, the rest of the electors would be selected by the winner within each congressional district. It would put States like CA, NY and TX back in play (or at least parts of them). It would force Presidential campaigns to be national again.

For some history (note I’m not endorsing the website or what they’re promoting, just a convenient link):

Another change to the Electoral College.
There is one change I would like to see in the Electoral College. Now there are 538 electors. These Electors are apportioned state by state by population at the time of the last census. Population includes non-citizens living in each electoral district. I know that we should count them in the census but if they are NOT eligible to vote, why count them toward apportionment. I understand that because of non-citizens, California has 5 extra electoral votes, Florida 1, New York 1, Texas 2, and Washington State, 1.
Now a lot of the big cities want open borders and to maintain their status as sanctuary cities. If you took non-citizens and illegals out of apportionment, I wonder how many of these cities would still want to be so humanitarian.

The arrogance of the left is frightening. The venom they spew out seems to sicken them into performing worse actions. They seem to view Trump supporters as toothless, poorly educated trailer park dwellers who marry their sisters. The main media seems to help support this hatred. Example: my ex wife’s niece discovered she voted for Trump and verbally assaulted her with a full page of disrespect. She seemed to feel she was entitled to speak and write this way with no concern for her aunt’s feelings.

Will this idiocy ever stop? The leftist liberals have done absolutely nothing but whine and gnash teeth since it became a reality that Trump squashed Hilliary’s bid for the Oval Office! As for the “snowflakes”, “wusses” and “cry-hards”, get a life and join the revolution to set our beloved nation back on the path to sanity and sensibility! Mr. Obama has done more to attempt to “fundamentally change” the face of America and has indeed NEARLY fulfilled that platform, but not for the MAJORITY of the Americans that finally awoke to the realization that electing Hilliary was a continuation of Obama’s promises. Thank you Lord for opening our eyes and ears to the truth of what these corrupt politicians in the Democratic Party (including some RINO’s) would do to finish Obama’s “LEGACY”!!!!!

No big deal, anybody in the know does not get their news from them anyway. They already know where mainstream is coming from, and it’s not news!

Stop expecting these news networks to report the news accurately or be unbiased in their reporting. Not going to happen. Which is why no one should bother to watch these networks in the hope of getting an accurate view of what is going on nationally or globally. The news divisions of these networks, as well the executive ranks of all three networks are fully populated by Progressives (Socialists). News not complementary or positive for the progressive movement or the Democrat Party, which is essentially all progressive at this point, is NOT going to be reported. At best, you’ll get what your article outlined, which is just mentioning something very briefly in passing. This has been the case for decades, so this really shouldn’t be considered “news” to anyone at this point.

PaulE,
You are so right in your statement that this has been going on for decades and not just in national news or big cities. I worked for a small town newspaper in the 80’s and only the things that interested the editor and her reporters ever made it into the paper. They often wrote very biased and sometimes damaging articles based solely on thier point of view. Even when called to task on it they simple “laid low” for a cooling off period and then went back to stoking thier own agenda. It has long been a practice of opineing in places other than the OP-ED page and calling real news….

Doodlebug,

Yes, local newspapers, whether the big city papers or small town papers, have consistently been little more than outlets for the owners, editors and reporters of those newspapers to voice their personal views and biases as so-called news. The personal bias slant is usually even easier to spot in most of the small town papers, because 1) they’re less concerned with projecting an air of unbiased objectivity, than they are with promoting their views and agenda you spoke of and 2) if we really want to be totally honest, for many of these small town newspapers reporting the news accurately, objectively and in an unbiased manner was NEVER what they were about. It was always about having that megaphone, the newspaper, from which to get ego gratification and promote their agenda.

All the local newspapers by me have been running one anti-Trump story after another since the election. Not that they were reporting the news accurately before the election. They’ve just really ramped up the incendiary tone of hate and loathing for anything Trump or Republican related, in addition to trying to convince everyone that Trump will destroy the country. You know, the usual end of the world insane progressive rants. Before the election, they were all singing the praises of Hillary Clinton and the wise and caring Democrat Party and how Clinton would coast to an easy win and the progressive agenda would continue unimpeded by those nasty Republican types anymore.

So obviously I haven’t subscribed to any of these rags for a decades. Now many of them are forced to deliver free copies to everyone, because their subscribed based has dropped off a cliff and they are desperate to attract paying subscribers. They’ve had to massively scale back their staffs through layoffs. Honestly, I can’t wait for when all these worthless rags go out of business.
