Trump’s Historic D.C. Renovations Give America a Capital Worth Celebrating

While it has been largely ignored by the corporate media, President Donald Trump’s stunning makeover of Washington, D.C., represents perhaps the most successful urban revitalization project in American history – and a fitting 250th birthday gift to the nation.

In an X post on Monday, the White House outlined the full scope of efforts thus far to beautify the city and make it safer ahead of the semiquincentennial. In total, the administration has cleaned up more than 500 instances of graffiti, removed 153 homeless encampments, restored 22 fountains – including some that had not run for decades – and cleaned 28 statues.

One of the most noteworthy restorations was of the Columbus Circle Fountain, located outside Union Station just blocks away from the Capitol. The fountain – formerly vandalized by Hamas graffiti and flags just two years ago – is now unrecognizable in the best way. As of May 28, 2026, the fountain stands in pristine condition, with clean white marble and flowing water for the first time in nearly two decades.

Union Station is particularly important as the symbolic gateway to the capital. Longtime D.C. residents have seen the area become an unsafe and unsanitary den of crime, drug addiction, and neglect. But now it has been fully restored to its original grandeur.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also noted the need to revitalize Columbus Circle and Union Station after a “lack of leadership” under the Biden administration. “The station had become dilapidated,” he explained. “A central station that once represented a nation on the rise has eroded into a ruin built by a people past its prime.”

While the nation’s capital has long enjoyed a flood of federal tax dollars, the liberal city government and apathetic federal leadership have allowed once pristine parks and monuments to crumble and decay for decades. Crime and homelessness had become pervasive problems in even the ritziest of neighborhoods.

That all changed with Trump’s return to the Oval Office in January 2025.

President Trump’s city-wide revitalization not only includes aesthetic improvements, but marks a new era of safety and hope in our nation’s capital – especially timely with the millions of visitors expected to participate in the American 250 celebration this summer.

In addition to the reopening of the Columbus Circle Fountain, Trump undertook a major renovation of the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool, spanning the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

Trump decided to drain and paint the pool with a waterproof, industrial coating in “American flag blue.” The pool, once a murky basin of leaks, mudflat shifting, and algae, now has an enlivened and polished look, fitting for our prestigious nation.

Trump commented on the former state of the Reflecting Pool in a Truth Social post: “The Biden and Obama Administrations spent over 100 Million Dollars, and made it far worse! It was only open for a short while, during each Administration, before the leaks and decay took over.”

Other important renovations include the Albert Pike Memorial, Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, Meridian Hill Park, Freedom Plaza, and the regilding of the “Arts of War” and “Arts of Peace” statues near the Lincoln Memorial – many of which were destroyed or defaced during the summer 2020 riots.

Taken together, these projects represent more than routine maintenance; they reflect a broader effort to revive the capital’s historic character and national symbolism.

Trump promised to restore Washington, D.C., to the city’s former glory, and he is ensuring the job is finished. The nation’s capital is no longer a symbol of poor leadership and organization, but is now noticeably cleaner, safer, and more inviting, finally mirroring the greatness of the American people and our proud history.

Thank you, President Trump! Thank you for loving our country enough to repair and clean up these statues/parks/monuments etc. after too many decades of neglect and abuse. How can anyone who is fortunate enough and blessed enough to be an American citizen NOT care about how our beautiful District of Columbia looks? Thank you for making it once again “that shining city on a hill”.

Would loved to have seen pictures of those things described as having been restored back to their grandeur. But still great to read about the “cleaning up” and increased safety of our nation’s capital for the 250th Year Celebration coming up shortly.

And every step along the way with Trump’s Operation Cleanup, the evil, mega-corrupt DamnoRATS, back-stabbing RINOs, and dirty, left-wing Commie judges have tried to stop him.
Proof once again, that these leaches and parasites swimming around in the Democrat Cess Pool of corruption, filth, and evil are TRULY AMERICA’S ENEMIES WITHIN.

Democrats would prefer that all statues be torn down, all Military Bases be renamed to the “George Floyd Memorial Base”. Yes, they do Hate America that much.

These Democrat-controlled cities take no pride in their city, state or country. They need to go live somewhere else where squalor abounds and they will fit right in.

So thankful for this great President. And thanks to AMAC, we can get details of what has been done and the plans for more. All these improvements, and with the proposed new ball room, is why TDS, cannot be cured. This so called media, unlike AMAC, and also NEWSMAX, will not mention these needed improvements. And the ball-room is privately funded. Imagine th fit, if he asked for tax dollars to pay for it. The Dims, are so jealous of this President, they cannot stand common sense.

Repairing and rejuvenating DC is a worthy goal, but I do not agree doing this with debt money. The Arch should never happen & tearing down the WH wing was done in haste. These monuments remind me of the history of THE FALL OF ROME. Do not repeat that history or USA might have the same ending. The $40 Trillion debt is crazy high !

Thank you, President Trump. The monuments are beautiful. It is a reflection of Biden and Obama’s character that they did not take pride in keeping our Capital clean and inviting to diplomats as well as visitors. The people who oppose the improvements must be very dirty in heart & soul. I have never had the privilege to visit the Capital, but a photo can speak a thousand words. Also, the capitol had no ballroom? I cannot believe the people’s house did not have one. I am looking forward to the completion of the ballroom. A much-needed addition. In comparison, who cares or uses the basketball court? Obama should refund the money spent on such a frivolous use of our money.

Glad to hear he has done something for the American people. Now let’s see how many of these things he wants renamed with Trump on them. If he doesn’t ask for a single one, I’ll believe he did it for us and not himself.
