A free webinar on how spousal benefits work — and what you may be entitled to!
Are you — or is your spouse — leaving Social Security money on the table? If you’re married, divorced, or simply unsure how spousal benefits work, you’re not alone. Many Americans are unaware of the full range of Social Security spousal benefits available to them, and the rules can be confusing.
That’s why the AMAC Foundation is hosting a free webinar to help participants understand how spousal benefits work, determine their eligibility, and learn what factors can affect their monthly payments.
When: Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 12:00 PM ET
In this session, attendees will learn:
- Whether they are eligible for a Social Security spousal benefit
- How benefit amounts are determined
- Key factors that can affect monthly payments
- Important information for both current and former spouses
“Spousal benefits are one of the most overlooked areas of Social Security,” said Deborah Dunlap, Social Security Advisor at the AMAC Foundation. “We regularly speak with people who had no idea they were eligible — or who didn’t realize their timing could significantly affect their monthly benefit. This webinar is designed to break it all down in plain language so attendees leave with a clear understanding of what they may be entitled to.”
According to the Social Security Administration, spousal benefits can provide up to 50% of a worker’s primary insurance amount. Yet many eligible spouses either fail to claim these benefits or do not understand how timing may affect what they receive.
The webinar is free and open to the public; AMAC membership is not required.
This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2, “Advanced Strategies for Multiple Marriages, Divorce, Remarriage,” will be held on April 30, 2026.

I’m divorced, was wife number one, married 10 years and on disability now. I’m 63 and will be 64 in November. Would I be eligible to collect any benefits from my ex-husband?
I just watched the first episode in 2 part series it said, after the fact, so unable to ask questions. My scenario is I am 64- divorced now 21 years. He remarried, I did not. I have worked prior and post marriage but not during, so he was sole provider. we are both born in same year, 1962, both alive. I have gotten mixed information between what i read and what SSA employees say about the situation. I am
wondering if i am entitled to his SS benefits if they are greater than mine and if so, how would that be made known? Do I need to ask? Provide info? etc Thank you!

I am a retired Texas Teacher. None of the retired teachers can get their spouse’s SS. We also cannot get any SS we paid in while working at other jobs. I have a 90 year old aunt who lost her husband 2 1/2 years ago. He worked from age 16 to 84. She also is a Texas retired teacher. Therefore, she can get none of his SS. VERY UNFAIR. Our spouses paid it in, so now where is all of that hard earned money. It’s almost like punishing us for all of the extra hours and supply funding we did. On our own. WHY? I have heard lame reasons, but in the end it’s our money.
