AMAC members helped deliver a decisive grassroots victory in Iowa this week, pushing critical election integrity legislation across the finish line in the state House.

House File 2601, a bill to ban foreign money from influencing or funding state ballot measure campaigns, was in serious jeopardy after Democrats attempted to attach last-minute amendments designed to kill the bill. Those “poison pill” changes threatened to fracture Republican support and stall the bill entirely as a key legislative deadline loomed.

Recognizing the urgency, AMAC Action moved quickly. Within hours, AMAC’s members in Iowa mobilized, flooding lawmakers with hundreds of messages demanding passage of a clean bill. The coordinated effort sent a clear signal that Iowans want their elections decided by Iowans – not shadowy foreign actors.

“AMAC members once again proved that grassroots advocacy works,” said Andy Mangione, AMAC Action Senior Vice President. “When this bill was at risk of being gutted, our members stepped up and made it clear that protecting election integrity is non-negotiable. Their voices made a difference.”

Initially, HF 2601 was placed on the House’s “Unfinished Business” calendar, buying time for additional outreach. AMAC Action continued to apply pressure, ensuring lawmakers understood the stakes. That effort paid off on March 23, when the bill was brought back to the floor and passed unanimously, 89-0.

The success also drew praise from key allies. “When AMAC members talk, lawmakers listen,” said Jason Snead, Executive Director of Honest Elections Project. “When the left tried to derail a bill to protect Iowa from foreign election interference, AMAC Action stepped in immediately, driving an incredible number of messages to Iowa lawmakers and helping push the bill through the House unanimously. Once again, you have been invaluable advocates for election integrity.”

With House passage secured, HF 2601 now heads to the Iowa Senate. AMAC Action is closely monitoring its progress and stands ready to mobilize again if needed to ensure the bill becomes law.
