The national ACLU and Maine ACLU are making another crazy argument, imagine that? They have literally, on film and in writing, begun to argue that “illegal aliens” are not “illegal,” and so they should not be apprehended by ICE or any State government, nor deported. Really?
They argue that, just because a foreigner crossed into Maine or America illegally at a non-border crossing, or lied at a border crossing for entry, they are not an “illegal alien,” since…since what?
The ACLU “supports the principle that individuals should not be penalized for being present in the United States without authorization, as long as they have not committed criminal acts.” What?
This sounds like Alice in Wonderland, some fantasy world. Was it not Alice who said, “Imagination is the only weapon in a war with reality,” and “Never let anyone drive you crazy; it is nearby anyway, and the walk is good for you,” or the last I like, “The world gets curiouser and curiouser.”
So does that mean? Extending the argument, may I be in your home without authorization, as long as I do not commit other crimes in the process? May I steal your car if I never take your television?
I call this the Dr. Suess principle: “If we had green eggs, we could have green eggs and ham, if we had ham,” in other words, you can imagine anything if you suspend realty, Make everything lawful, nothing a crime, and like in Alice’s world, we have no crime, only of course we do.
The oddity and irony of all this is that it reflects a gradual going mad of one half of us, the half that thinks illegality can be called legality, and the problem is solved, only it is not.
Illegal aliens are exactly that, and consult federal law – God forbid! – and you will find that crossing the US border illegally is either a misdemeanor or felony based on circumstances, at a minimum punishable by six months in prison for a first time, second time two years, and later more.
So, reality – laws – are just inconvenient things for those who would rather wish they were not there, but they are there. The notion that we forgive this and illegality, look the other way, imagine them gone, is insanity, lawlessness, and deliberately getting lost, or not wanting law and order.
What then did Alice say, as she tried to navigate insanity?
“Only a few find the way, some don’t recognize it when they do – some don’t ever want to.” I think we have found those in Maine and nationally who “don’t ever want to.” But the “way” will find them, like it or not, ready or not, here they come.

Well, if someone lives in ” Backwardsville ” then it would be acceptable to think that illegal and legal are the same. (Backwardsville being not a geographic location but a frame of mind – nearby Upsidedowntown and Insideoutville ) So ,it is rather easy to get to those places if one ignores Truth , disregards Fact . For those of us who live according to the principles of law and order – illegal and legal are opposites And we realize that there needs to be law and order to hold society together.God bless America . Where does the ACLU get it’s funding and how did they get so powerful? Government tends to cower, especially smaller municipalities who don’t have the resources, but at the state and federal levels it depends on if they’re aligned or polarized. The ACLU is left leaning which might account for their strongest presence in battling red states. I live on the left coast and there doesn’t seem many causes for them here until threatened by conservative issues or as viewed in Maine a rallying point for the rule of law. It would be interesting if American taxpayer’s dollars somehow found its way to their coffers them just like everything else being uncovered. How can you have liberty when you don’t follow the law?
