The Association of Mature American Citizens applauds President Donald Trump for signing a landmark executive order delivering on his campaign promise of lowering drug prices by putting the interests of everyday Americans, and American seniors in particular, first. AMAC members and their families stand to reap major savings from this order.

This bold and sweeping action reaffirms President Trump’s longstanding commitment to lowering prescription drug prices, expanding patient choice, and ensuring America’s seniors are no longer forced to pay more for the same medicines than people in other countries.

The executive order, titled Lowering Drug Prices and Putting America’s Seniors First, outlines a comprehensive policy to make prescription drugs more affordable, especially for those enrolled in Medicare. As President Trump states in the order, “It is time to restore the progress our Nation made in my first term to deliver lower prescription drug prices by putting Americans first and making America healthy again.”

The order directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to improve the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program to enhance transparency and prioritize drugs with the highest cost burden to the program. It also calls for aligning Medicare payments with the actual acquisition costs of drugs—prices that are often 35 percent lower than what the government currently pays. By standardizing payments for prescription drugs across care settings, prices could drop by as much as 60 percent.

“This executive order is a big win for America’s seniors,” said Andy Mangione, AMAC Action Senior Vice President. “President Trump has once again proven that he puts patients first. This initiative will bring immediate relief to seniors struggling with the high cost of medications and restore accountability and fairness in the prescription drug market.”

In addition to improving Medicare affordability, the order delivers massive discounts for low-income and uninsured Americans. Under the new plan, insulin could cost as little as three cents per dose, and injectable epinephrine will be made available for just $15. These life-saving medications are essential for millions of Americans, and the cost reductions are a testament to President Trump’s leadership in healthcare reform.

The order also reignites competition and transparency in the prescription drug marketplace. It increases the availability of generics and biosimilars—often up to 80 percent cheaper than brand-name alternatives—and calls for accelerating the approval process for these low-cost options. It challenges the dominance of middlemen by improving fee disclosure among pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), an initiative AMAC Action has been a leader on, and initiating reforms to build a more efficient and competitive pharmaceutical value chain.

Importantly, the order authorizes expanded drug importation programs to help states negotiate better deals and reduce overall drug spending. This builds upon previous efforts launched during President Trump’s first term, including programs that helped states secure significant discounts on high-cost medications such as those used to treat sickle cell disease.

The contrast with the previous administration’s policies is stark. While the Biden administration’s so-called Inflation Reduction Act promised savings, it delivered far less than projected, while also triggering higher Medicare premiums and fewer plan choices for seniors. President Trump’s executive order corrects course, ending the so-called “pill penalty” that punished lower-cost treatments and shifting incentives back toward affordable, accessible drugs.

President Trump’s decisive action is one more step toward a healthcare system that prioritizes the needs of patients—not profit margins, bureaucracy, or special interests. With this executive order, American seniors can be confident that their needs are being placed front and center.

AMAC stands firmly behind President Trump’s commitment to lowering drug costs and commends this move toward making prescription drugs more affordable for millions of seniors nationwide.

We need to manufacture HERE in the US. And getting rid of the pharmacy benefit managers is a MUST. NO MORE PBMs!! Congress needs to rescind the Biden pill bill too. That, with the 60 billion Biden stole from Medicare budget to pay for the Green New Deal, must be recovered. All it did was make Medicare Advantage plans cut their benefits in half from 2024 to 2025. I want my benefits back!! There will be plenty of funding for US citizens once all the illegals are cut from all public benefits!

Until all of these ideas are enacted by Congress, one good first step would be to hold off on tariffs for prescription drugs.

No doubt, this story will be hidden by the radical liberal media. They are scaring seniors into believing that Trump and DOGE are trying to end SS, Medicare and Medicaid. I see the ads on TV every day and still wonder why these outlets are able to lie all of the time and not be called out by anyone in law enforcement. Lying used evil and used to be rare instead of the norm. Why is no one suing the Democratic National Committee or the guilty media outlets? They keep suing to enable stopping the good acts of Trump and Musk and it is high time the Marxists in our country get sued for their malicious behavior.

Yet another example of how American companies chose profit over Patriotism in sending our manufacturing overseas in search of cheap and slave labor. They deferred to their stockholders rather than recognizing the vulnerability to our own supply chain and labor market. AMERICANS absorb the R&D costs while Big Pharma sells drugs cheaply to other countries. President Trump has derailed this gravy train!

Does us Seniors good having a President now who cares for the people. The last President and his lost Adminstration had zero care , in my opinion. I mean, how could he, being on vacation 42% of his time in office!?! Those actually running the USA behind the scenes during Biden’s Presidency definitely didn’t care as they were to busy lining their pockets through corruption. Mr. Musk and DOGE has given evidence to this thus far. Scandalous people who need to be held personnally accountable for every infraction!

Signing executive order lower the cost of drugs for Seniors is great. Thank you Please include in your list Specialty Drugs. 13000 dollars a month is uncalled for. How are we to afford those types of drugs

It is interesting that the media publicizes all the “horrible and unconventional” actions President Trump has taken by means of Executive Orders. But I was unaware of this particular order until reading this article. By way of explanation, I am very interested in politics, read the New York Times, Washington Post, and Baltimore Sun regularly, and am enrolled in Medicare. Donald Trump’s action in this Executive Order is well taken and should have been widely disseminated. That it wasn’t shows the extreme bias of the media against the President.

I had to have my thyroid removed in 2013 and have until this year been taking Levothyroxine but recently changed to a more natural drug because I was experiencing a lot of side effects from the Levothyroxine.
The co pay for Levothyroxine was only $6.
The co pay for my new one is almost $60 for the same amount and I don’t experience the horrible side effects.
Since our grocery benefit has been stripped down to only $50, I can’t afford to purchase 90 tablets all at once.sometimes it’s a choice between my meds or healthy food.

Two helpful ideas. Get rid of PBM’S and specify any drug developed here in USA labs must be made here in the USA until the patent runs out. Let’s stop doing all the R&D for big PHARMA do produce overseas! PS: I’m not a robpt, but some days I sure wish I was-less problems than a human

Let’s not rewrite history. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump said he was going to have Medicare negotiate drug prices. He never did. Biden enacted it as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. This won’t take effect until 2027. Biden also put a $35-per-month out-of-pocket price cap on insulin for Medicare enrollees and a $2,000 yearly out-of-pocket spending cap for Part D drugs, effective now. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) set Medicare prices, not the president. The 2025 increase was primarily due to the increased costs of physician administered drugs.
