Bohemia, New York – Just before Thanksgiving, AMAC Members played a critical role in stopping an effective state takeover of Long Island schools initiated by New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Over the course of just two days on November 25 and 26, more than 900 AMAC members sent messages to Governor Hochul opposing her mandatory “emergency regionalization order.” This order would have stripped local school districts and parents of their control over their children’s education and placed all schools under the jurisdiction of a “regional superintendent” appointed and controlled by Governor Hochul. Teachers, administrators, and local superintendents, instead of answering to parents, would have been forced to answer to regional superintendents who also would have had the final say over curriculum and other school policies.

On November 27, following this immense outpouring of opposition from AMAC members, Governor Hochul reversed the mandatory element of her regionalization order, making district enrollment in the program optional. In her statement announcing the decision, Governor Hochul echoed the concerns of AMAC members, noting the importance of “local control” and “families making decisions about schools.”

“This is a significant victory for New York’s parents and children,” said AMAC CEO Rebecca Weber. “Local community involvement in our schools is critical to the successful education of our children. I’m so grateful for the role AMAC’s New York members played in stopping this egregious intrusion by the Governor and appreciate her listening to the will of the people.”

AMAC Members once again showed that when they make their voices heard, elected officials, no matter their political party, listen.

To AMAC… Keep up the good work. I live in Florida now but was born and raised in Westbury NY. So this really stuck out to me. I’m glad you guys were able to stop her. The Democrats get worse and worse. Thank God so many people used their heads and voted Trump back in. He has a lot of work to do.

Pity the poor children who have lived through the Covid years and the Obama-Biden era. They have been confused and misused beyond all comprehension and are, sometimes, ridiculed for not knowing what students were taught decades ago. It’s time to give students an opportunity to, once again, be heard, be taught, and be allowed to enjoy learning information they have not been taught for many years. Thank you AMAC for helping to lead the way back out of the darkness.

It is very obvious a large part of the elected political officials have never had training in “civics” in grade school, in universities, or by just reading the major documents including the Federal Papers. We have lost so much in this nation where politics was involved.

This must be the worst period of time in decades to be a young student. Glad this misery wasn’t a thing when I was a kid!

Thank you AMAC. Why is it that even after the Democrats have their asses handed to them in an election, they still go ahead and attempt to double down on their communist and globalist agendas?

Thank you AMAC. I applaud your efforts. How do these crazy people get into power??? Do that many Americans really hate America so much to lead to her destruction???

Anytime power is stolen by members of the “government”, nothing good comes of it. The obvious example is our public school system. The U.S. was known to be one of the best in educating its children until it was in the hands of the DC government. Now it is pathetic and dangerous. I truly President Trump is successful of ending federal government’s control of our schools and returns it to the states.

I am very glad to hear this, and although AMAC had a real effect in changing what I consider ‘government overreach,’ it is sad that the mechanisms of the law in that particular state should have had more clout. I did some more research into this, and it is difficult to try to find out the REAL reason for Hochul to do this. The sad takeover by a ‘superior authority’ of what should better be handled by the regional authorities – who more than likely KNOW what they need to do – is akin to being a ‘bully.’ Interestingly, I see Democrats – more and more try to take over in literal socialist fashion. All the while, she has allowed continuance of NYC’s downfall and is continuing the old saying “New York – the land of taxes, and still very little is done to improve the overall status of the state with all of that money – it is amazing to me that ‘impeachment’ is not considered (then I come back to reality and understand ‘BIG BLUE!’) We have already experienced a Federal Official (at the time a ‘civilian’) being hounded by a pitiful local DA under manufactured charges, and postponing the final charges – of course, I refer to Bragg and President-elect Trump. While NYC ‘burns,’ the local DA lets felons fly free. Why is not Hochul chasing this travesty? – I know the Blue! She broke the ‘glass ceiling!’ but like one of her other ‘identity politicians’ has done little for the people she is supposed to have responsibility for. I had to wince at the recent TV advertisements floating around about Hochul, and how hard she works – she may put in a lot of hours – but to what end? I will be praying for God to work in the hearts of the people of New York to vote to send her back ‘to the house’ and hopefully put in a much more worthy SERVANT of the people will rise to the challenge and take over and make NYS an example of progress, etc. If you wonder, yes, I grew up in New York State, near Buffalo: and sadly, the most objective and sensible person in the media spotlight that I have seen associated with Buffalo (SUNYB) is Judge Jeanine Pirro. Although, for the last 30+ years, I live in the South, more than 700 miles from my hometown, I try to keep up with what goes on back in NYS. I generally remember what I grew up with and want better for them – I just hope they want better for themselves. No matter what I say, I know I do not have the answers; but I am glad to have the opportunity to weigh in. I pray for God’s will: I know God is in control and can do much better than I can even imagine. Thank you for your time. Romans 13.

That’s wonderful news, and highest praise to AMAC for making it happen. Given the hideous state of affairs in our public education systems, this is a badly-needed breath of fresh air that, hopefully, a strong indicator of what is yet to come.

What was Hochul’s reason for wanting to take over these schools? And why Long Island? What about the rest of the state? At any rate, I’m glad the idea was shot down, it would be a terrible injustice to local districts and parents.

Just remember, here we are saying each STATE should be in charge of their own schools and we want the feds to stay out of the issue…the citizens/parents of NEW YORK should be the ones fighting this, not a national group like AMAC. Can’t have it both ways.
