Your AMAC Action team is constantly tracking issues of importance to the AMAC membership and stands ready to activate members to pressure state lawmakers to pass good legislation.  As a result, the voice of the membership is resonating in states throughout the country and is responsible for scoring significant legislative victories on issues involving the 2nd Amendment, freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion, parental rights, and election integrity in Maine, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

Just last week, we reported on how members in the state of Maine helped to stop a so-called “red flag” law that could lead to gun confiscation and harassment of conservative gun owners. Responding to an AMAC Action call-to-action, AMAC members sent nearly 200 messages to state lawmakers voicing their opposition to this bill.

The wins continued in Tennessee where Governor Bill Lee signed what the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) describes as “the first-of-its-kind de-banking bill”. According to ADF, the law “prohibits major financial institutions like nationally chartered banks with at least $100 billion in assets, along with major insurance providers, from discriminating against otherwise qualified customers because of their political or religious views, speech, or affiliations.”

AMAC Action worked closely with ADF to lobby the Tennessee legislature throughout the legislative session to support this measure and ensure its passage. ADF’s Senior Counsel and Senior Vice President of Corporate Engagement, Jeremy Tedesco said, “Big Banks and Big Tech pose threats to freedom like Big Brother does. What’s worse is the mounting evidence that Big Brother is enlisting Big Business in its censorship schemes. Government is too often attempting an end-run around the Constitution by outsourcing censorship to some of the most powerful corporations the world has ever known. But where the First Amendment is concerned, the government can’t do indirectly what it is forbidden from doing directly. This law protects against that kind of censorship, and it’s one key reason states should follow Tennessee’s example.”

Also in Tennessee, lawmakers responded to pressure from advocates for parental rights and passed the “Families’ Rights and Responsibilities Act”. This bill ensures that parents have a fundamental right “to the care, custody, and control of the parent’s child, including the right to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health.” AMAC Action’s lobbying of the state legislature and its partnership with ADF helped to solidify this crucial win for parents and families. The bill is soon expected to be signed into law by the Governor.

AMAC members in Oklahoma sent over 340 messages to their state representatives telling them to ban the confusing and complex voting scheme, ranked-choice voting, from the state’s municipal and statewide elections. The bill passed the House in March and sailed through the Senate last week by a 37-8 vote. Since the bill had no amendments, it now goes straight to Governor J. Kevin Stitt’s desk.

AMAC members’ engagement and activity on issues critical to our freedoms and our children’s and grandchildren’s quality of life catalyzes AMAC Action to organize and provide the necessary platforms to raise the voice of mature conservative Americans to the level where it cannot be ignored.
