Proposed Legislation Would “Save Democracy,” says AMAC

legislationWASHINGTON, DC, APR 9 — A new Rasmussen poll shows that a majority of Americans across party lines are focused on the need to strengthen voter credentials.  A massive 89% of Republicans said that we need to require voters to show photo IDs in order to ensure “a fair and secure election process.  Sixty-five percent of Democrats agreed and so did 71% of independents.

Meanwhile, in the months leading up to the November elections last year, just 19% of Americans said they were “very” confident in the process, according to the pollsters at Gallup.  Another 40% of survey respondents would say only that they were “somewhat confident.”

“The polling underscores the growing doubt about the integrity of our nation’s election process and to paraphrase Rep. Jim Banks, R-IN, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, we need to do something tangible about it if we are to restore the confidence and faith of voters,” according to Bob Carlstrom, president of AMAC Action, the senior advocacy arm of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

In a letter to Congressman Banks and Senator Rick Scott, R-FL, Carlstrom praised the legislation they have introduced in the House and the Senate– the Save Democracy Act.

“By focusing on voter registration, ballot casting and ballot counting, your bill works to prohibit or reform the current practices that weaken the security, oversight, and administration of elections for federal office,” he wrote, noting that “the AMAC membership has been very vocal in their desire to reform the election process. They are greatly concerned about the allegations of fraud regarding last November’s general election and have made election integrity one of our top legislative priorities.”

Carlstrom cites the non-partisan Federation for American Immigration Reform [FAIR], which states that “Mass immigration has had a significant effect on American electoral politics.  Despite the fact that it is a crime for aliens to vote in federal elections, noncitizens and illegal aliens are counted when apportioning congressional districts.  This means that areas with large numbers of illegal alien residents gain additional representatives in Congress.  This also translates into more electors under the Electoral College for such states, which means that noncitizens also exert an indirect influence on presidential elections.”

The proposed legislation would reinforce the U.S. election law provision that you have to be a citizen to vote in a federal election by requiring proof of citizenship in order to cast a ballot.

The proposed law would:

  • Require verification of citizenship in order to register to vote
  • Necessitate would be voters to provide Social Security Numbers to register
  • And, oblige federal courts to notify state election officials when an individual is excused from jury duty because they are not a citizen

In addition to addressing the need to strengthen voter registration procedures, it would also provide failsafe provisions for casting and tabulating ballots

Senator Scott says that “if the American people don’t have confidence in our elections, we don’t have a true democracy. What we saw this past election was confusion and chaos caused by inconsistent standards and last-minute changes to established election laws by state officials and activist judges. It’s now more clear than ever that there is a serious need for major reforms to our election systems. The Save Democracy Act establishes common sense, nation-wide standards and requirements for voter ID, mail-in ballots and vote counting. To restore confidence in our elections, we need consistency and the ability to ensure accurate and timely election results.”

The opposition to the Save Democracy Act has mounted a campaign in the Democrat controlled Congress to ensure it doesn’t pass.

“Do these naysayers wish to allow unlawful voters to continue obstructing elections?  Is it that they wish to encourage an expanding band of unlawful voters to keep them in power,” Carlstrom asked?

The answer to the question at the end of the article is obvious. Biden’s getting ready to pack the Supreme Court now. I just cannot believe that there is no avenue for the American citizens to stop this evil that is happening in our White House. A Convention of the States will be too little too late. There are only 16 states at this time that have signed and we need 34 to get things done. I see a war in this country in the very near future. I wonder if they got enough illegals trained for their regime yet

Hey, AMAC Action, keep us informed as this tries to move forward. Things like when it’s time to “contact your H/S Rep to get behind this”. Lose this And pass HR1 / S1 = Deep Trouble.

While I am strongly in favor of measures to protect the integrity of our voting system, it is not our “democracy” we are protecting, it is our republic. If the author is confused as to the difference, a short trip to the dictionary will clear up any uncertainty.

There is absolutely no point in voting because the corrupt have found a sure way to manipulate – or allow other countries – to manipulate our elections to their advantage. If ILLEGAL aliens are allowed to vote, what good does my citizenship do for me? Except insure that I will be paying the highest taxes and health care premiums and get soaked in every financial manner possible so that the non-citizens can get everything they need for free. Of course they’ll vote for the guy who says “sure, come on into this country and get everything free!” Meanwhile other countries are laughing at us. If this Save Democracy bill doesn’t go through this country will cease to be ‘free’ – if it isn’t too late already…

This is absolutely necessary to pass. If they don’t want this there is a nefarious reason for it and they should be voted out of office.

In answering Mr. Carlstrom’s question, I would say absolutely the democrats would love to keep illegals voting to keep the dem’s in power!
And to Jean, I would say, even though things look grim, voting is the only hope we have of participating in our democracy at this point. So please don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. Keep providing input to your legislators!

In order to pick up my computer at the repair shop I needed to show my picture ID. If this is required to pick up something I already own, how much more important is it to show a picture ID when I vote. In order to keep our Republic free from Socialism and Communism this mandatory. The Dems do not wish to have mandatory picture ID. I wonder why that is? Are they afraid they may not be able to rig an election?

We absolutely need voter ID in our election process. It was blatantly obvious there was manipulation
in the last election. Having to present a social security number when registering should be mandatory. Our beautiful nation is on the brink of falling to Communist rule and we must do everything possible to prevent that from happening. Our children and generations to come are depending on us to be proactive. God Bless America!

Is there a petition we can sign for national voter ID? How about Congressional Term Limits so we don’t have to keep dealing with these self-serving professional con artists for decades? Petitions are the legal way for Americans to demonstrate their support for national initiatives just like this one. Our Founding Fathers intended the public to use petitions before polling systems were invented to redress the public’s grievances like this one with our government.

Neither social security number or drivers license is enough to ensure only citizens vote. Many states allow non-citizens to get drivers licenses and some allow them to get social security cards. We need to find another way to identify citisenship.

You mean McConnell and McCarthy just mouthing some half-hearted words they don’t really mean isn’t inspiring? Sorry I just couldn’t resist. Yes, we have to definitely replace the dead weight GOP leadership in both houses of Congress ASAP. Then whip the rest of the GOP in Congress to get their heads in the game, instead of just phoning it in. Ah to dream…

The problem has never been America’s Constitutional system of voting. The problem will always be our system of government being abused by strong arming partisan politicians. They’ve forgotten where they came from and forgotten how they got to where they are. They’re full of themselves and each other. They no longer have ‘a country’, only status, and that is where it ends for leadership. This legislation late out of the gate but I hope it gains strength and passes. God in Heaven, please help our country and turn it back to you. In Christ’s Holy Name, amen.

The left complains that “poor people” don’t always have identification. Baloney!! They have to have identification to get the welfare checks and food stamps they apply for. This debate has always been about democrats padding the ballot boxes!! Everyone, legally in this country has identification. Even babies born in American hospitals are issued social security numbers. Believe me, they all have identification.

Why do we have to reinforce laws that are already laws? If the law says you have to be a citizen to vote in an election, require the potential voter to prove that they are a citizen, with some form of ID to prove and confirm they are a citizen. Just enforce the law that a person is legally eligible to vote, If they can’t prove that they are a citizen, they cannot register to vote. Enforce the law as it is written, what is the problem?

The Communists – er, I mean the Democrats – have spent decades fighting tooth and nail against any efforts to implement any type of voter integrity. Why? Very simple. Because they know that without cheating and fraud, they cannot “win” any elections at the national level.

This would all be completely reasonable and would make great strides for free and fair elections (which 2020 was provably anything but). The only trouble is it will never happen with this “president” and/or this House, or even this Senate for that matter. The last thing the dims want is a way to help secure free and fair elections.

I still don’t understand why illegal aliens should be counted for representation. I get that the should be included in a census, to know who is in this country, but I think they should be shown as non-citizen and not given representation in the House, even those here on work visas and temp visas.
Non-citizen!

Those caught in election fraud should face harsh penalties. Consider that voting is a pillar to freedom. Now consider those who have died safe guarding this basic right to remain free and the families that have suffered these losses too. So is it wrong then to ask for an equal penalty on those who have been caught in massive voter fraud that they to give their life too?? Or are we too enlightened to expect such penalties if found guilty in a trial? Should we ask our soldiers to die defending this freedom for anti Americans like Stacey Abrams commit treason?.

Voter ID is opposed by useless , lying democrats because it takes away their ability to CHEAT!
It’s simple thats the answer.
Anyone with a brain knows that ID is required for any important service.
These socialist democrats want to give drivers licenses, past voting documents simply as a way to DESTROY America and open borders for more dependent democrat voters.
Wake up, socialist, communist democrats HATE America and Free Citizens.
About control and changing freedom.

First, if you’re a true Conservative, please stop saying we’re a democracy! Our Founding Fathers gave us a representative REPUBLIC, and unfortunately we continue as a nation to do all we can to destroy it. The Founding Fathers believed that democracy equaled mobocracy and we see that more and more each day. My rallying cry for all elections from now on is “PROTECT YOUR VOTE – VOTE IN PERSON”. Non of us should ever relinquish control of our ballot, unless there is absolutely no other way to vote.

One of the side effects of the confidence in voting and elections is that people will just not show up. I have seen this in the 60 plus years of being a voter. When people get frustrated or feel ineffective they tend to not act at all. To be a wise and accountable voter, one needs to be informed, to use their brains and common sense, be able to see and hear all the various inputs and go to the polls armed with their own understanding of the issues, etc. With our current trend from bias sources (liberal and conservative, alike), and the media voices that do not report but serve as pundits for political advancement, we become more inclined to act badly or not at all. When fewer voters participate, there is a greater harm of manipulation and control of the elective process. The liberals (extreme) know this and will use that as a means to an end. The alarming part of this is, that is exactly what is happening, and is the same process that has been used in the past to eliminate the process in other parts of the world…….ie. Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, China, The Middle East, South America, et.al. Small steps that when added up spelled the end to representative form of government. One has to ask, “what’s next?” D.P.

“The republican is the only form of government which is not eternally at open or secret war with the rights of mankind.” Thomas Jefferson

The United States of America is a constitutional republic. It is NOT a democracy. I am disgusted by politicians and their fawning enablers referring to our ‘democracy’. The founders of this nation categorically rejected democracy as a viable form of government. If you are so ignorant as to keep saying we are a democracy, I suggest you read the Federalist Papers and the 1787 Constitutional Debates. Show me the word ‘democracy’ in the Constitution.
