We Can’t Afford Obama’s Version of ‘Forward’

By Jedediah Bila

The Obama campaign has a new ad out seeking to address one of the GOP’s chief questions to voters: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”

The ad is, of course, loaded with typical Obama class-warfare tactics and blame-everyone-but-me shenanigans. It also cites the often-repeated “thirty months of private-sector job growth, creating 4.6 million new jobs” claim, one that Peter Suderman reminds us was laid out by Obama in a June speech. Suderman adds, “And according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy did indeed add 4 million private sector payrolls in the previous 27 months. That takes us from March 2010 to May 2012. But why start the count there? Why not count all the way back to the beginning of Obama’s presidency? Probably because if you did that, you’d also have to factor in the massive job losses that occurred in the first part of Obama’s term. It’s a highly convenient way to count.”

The larger theme of the Obama ad is “We’re not there yet, but the real question is ‘Whose plan is better for you?'” So, I thought I would offer a quick reminder of where Obama’s “plan” has gotten us thus far:

1) The unemployment rate was 7.8% when Obama took office. It is now 8.1%. We are in our 43rd consecutive month of over 8% unemployment. James Pethokoukis notes that “If the labor force participation rate was the same as when Obama took office in January 2009, the unemployment rate would be 11.2%.” In fact, the labor force participation rate has dropped to its lowest level in thirty-one years.

2) In July, CNSNews.com reminded us that “At the close of business on Jan. 20, 2009, according to the U.S. Treasury, the total debt of the federal government was $10,626,877,048,913.08. By the close of business on July 10, 2012, that debt had climbed to $15,885,854,755,351.47—an increase of $5,258,977,706,438.39.” The national debt is now over $16 trillion. Recall that in 2008, Barack Obama rebuked President Bush for adding “$4 trillion by his lonesome.”

3) Food-stamp enrollment has soared to a record 46.7 million Americans. That’s up from 32 million Americans when Barack Obama took office.

4) Bloomberg.com points out that “Median household income dropped 1.5 percent last year to $50,054 — the lowest level since 1995 when adjusted for inflation — while the proportion of Americans living in poverty was 15 percent, little changed from 2010. The 46.2 million people in poverty remained at the highest number in the 53 years since the Census Bureau has been collecting that statistic.”

5) How about energy policy? Heritage cites that “oil production on federal lands has decreased between fiscal 2010 and fiscal 2011 by 11 percent. Natural gas production has decreased by 6 percent in the same one-year span. It is down nearly 27 percent from fiscal 2009…On his watch, Salazar made the controversial decision to cancel 77 leases in Utah after they had already been sold at an auction in December 2008.” And those oil and gas production increases Obama likes to take credit for–those would be on private and state-owned land.

Some other fun facts: Since Obama was inaugurated, gas prices have more than doubled and U.S. global competitiveness is down.

Bottom line: We are not better off than we were four years ago. Yes, President Obama inherited a bad economic situation. But his “plan” made things worse, not better. He can’t blame Republican “obstructionists” when he had a Democrat majority in Congress for his first two years.

And Mr. President, if you were going to use the slogan “Forward,” you should’ve probably had a record of achievement to back that up. Because unlike what happened with “Hope” and “Change” in 2008, people are asking questions this time around. And your answers–much like your record–aren’t cutting it.

Thank you Jedediah… It would be wonderful if the MSM would speak a plain as you and the others do in AMAC. I see that 6 million people will be subject to the Obamacare tax this year already… What a Great Guy… NOT… Thank you for working to keep us well informed. The facts and figures speak volumes. Obama is not a smart man by any stretch of the imagination. While he may have been reared in the Chicago style of politics that is not thev ‘style’ opf thev entire nation and it is telling on him. I have a friend and a relarive in the diplomatic corps. HAVE A RELATIVE AND A FRIEND IN THE DIPLOMATIC CORPO AND THEY BOTH HYABE TOLD ME WE

The problem with Odumbo’s “Forward” slogan is that he never defines what lies in the direction of “Forward”. Is it “Forward” toward prosperity and freedom, or “Forward” toward government dependency for everything, which, of course, will result in national bankruptcy?
It reminds me of his 2007 “Hope and Change” slogan. “Hope” for what and “Change” how? Maybe those who voted for him, as well as the complicit Pravda-media, should have asked those questions.

Can some body explain why Obama will give 250 billion dollars to Brazil to convert this country to an oil producer and turn us to permanent client of them….in stead of get our oil and give the jobs to the American people….getting us out, free of energy dependence like Romney said.
The main reason for this is, the communist agenda of this president to fulfill their dream of a very week US….remember what he said to the Russians if I get re-ellected I’ll be softer with you…..?….?….what he’s gonne to do give the key of the white house…?…?…

Given that “Forward” has been used by several socialist / communist leaders over the last 100 years, it describes perfectly what Obama is trying to create here in America. If more people had a better sense of world history over even a short period of time, like the last 200 years, then candidate Obama would have never been elected in the first place. All he’s pushing is the same failed utopian dream that has been floating around since Marx. He’s just dressing it up a bit and changing some of the phrasiology to mask the underlying message a bit.

Mrs Bila (White) in Slavish. I enjoy watching you on the good network programs. Not on the Main stream Media, the Russian communist Prawda Propaganda stations. I never watch them

‘FORWARD’ I am sick of that expression. That is what the Russian KGB used on their troops in world war II. And especially on their minority people: Ukrainians, White Russians, Kazakhstan and other Stans. The KGB members would be right there fighting the Nazis-Hitler. But the KGB would be in the rear of the troops. When the order was given “Давай вперіод” Give-push FORWARD If any troops decided to go backwards they were met by the KGB on the spot. KGB= Accuser, prosecutor, Executioner.God help us. God bless America—AGAIN.

When Obama promised to cur the 10.6 Trillion deficit in half, people expected him to reduce it downward (not “forward”) by $5.3 Trillion and to be only 5.3 Trillion remaining after his first term, not to increase the $10.6 Trillion by more than that 50% to now be over $16 trillion.

The way he keeps score, Obama has over achieved the by increasing the deficit “Forward” more than 50%.

“Forward” is Obama speak for increasing the deficit, which translates to lean forward and grab your ankles cause here he comes.

Forward to what? A fascist country where a favored few are subsidized and exempted from regulation at the expense
of the majority of the citizens. Soros gets taxpayer money for his Brazilian oil, Pelosi’s friends are exempt from the ACA, Reid’s sons clients(some are Chinese government interest) get favorable treatment and the UAW bosses get special treatment. A country no longer governed by the rule of law but by a ruling elite and federal government bureaucratic whim. No longer a Democratic Republic of free peoples but a Dictatorship on the faciast/social welfare state model. Do we want to be Argentina?

Thank you for so much information.
I am finding that a great deal of people don’t listen to or have much common sense any more.
This article is well stated and factual.
Thank you again.

Bob walked into a sports bar around 9:58 PM. He sat down next to a liberal friend at the bar and stared up at the TV. The 10 PM news was coming on. The news crew was covering the story of a man on the ledge of a large building preparing to jump. The liberal friend looked at Bob and said, “Do you think he’ll jump?” Bob said, “You know, I bet he’ll jump.” The Liberal replied, “Well, I bet he won’t.” Bob placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, “You’re on!” Just as the liberal placed his money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off the building, falling to his death. The liberal was very upset, but willingly handed the $20 to Bob. “Fair’s fair. Here’s your money.” Bob replied, “I can’t take your money. I saw this earlier on the… Read more »

There may have been 4 million jobs created since March 2010, but then with an annual legal greencard immigration rate of one million new job seekers coming into the country each year, I think that is a factor not even calculated into the employment picture. Politically convenient, the “official” jobless rate number presented is the U-3 number, which doesn’t count those no longer counted due to their unemployment benefit running out or those who have just given up looking for a job for the present time. The U-6 number is much more accurate and is nearly double the U-3 number.

Bob what about the 23 million unemployed in limbo(me included)some without jobs or money coming in for over 2 years? If they were added into the total unemployed Americans I’ll bet the real unemployed would be 15% or higher.

I told my liberal sister I didn’t go RV traveling this Summer due to the price of Obamagas. She quickly suggested it was not Obamagas. Thank you for clarifying that we are paying twice as much for gas as we did with Bush! I’m sure Obama can find some way NOT to take credit for that!
